Wests Tigers Team in State Cup 2011

I've heard around the traps…..from both the Wests and Balmain side of the Joint venture that the Wests Tigers will field a team in whatever is the State Cup competion next season....

I assume it will be comprised of some 20's players no longer eligible for that comp or other up and comers..... as well as those contracted to the Top 25 with the Wests Tigers not playing first Grade...

In a way I think it is the best move by the club and something Sheens has wanted for a while...

Opens up a few questions for mine like

Where does the leave current aged players with the Joint Venture Clubs?

How many of them will play for the Wests Tigers?

What Comp will Wests and Balmain play in?

Is it affecting Team selection in 2010?

Thoughts....

If there is a Wests Tigers team in the NSW Cup next year then I don't think there will be a Wests Magpies team or a Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers team in the NSW Cup next year. I don't think they should merge the 2 NSW Cup teams.

I agree with alien. Three teams would just be madness and would burn plenty of cash.

We will be stronger for it - both on the field and financially.

Hope it is true - and it does not mean that tradition has to die - I am happy for them to alternate between Wests and Balmain strips.

That has to be the most contradicting post I have ever read. 😕

Wests Magpies area is basically around Liverpool down through Campbelltown/Macarthur and down to around the Southern Highlands. Are you telling me that whole area shouldn't have their own NSW Cup side? What a joke!

I doubt a merger in NSW Cup will happen. Too many opposing forces, and I have never once heard Tim Sheens say he would prefer that. He is an avid supporter of the clubs joint heritage according to my sources in the Wests Archives.

Well that sucks. I was hoping it was just a Geo-UP.

State Cup merger is not set in stone as yet.

All the internal discussions may be occuring but until it is inked I would not count on it. It has been this close once before and nothing happened.

You never know with wests Tigers

It's been talked about. Though most people I asked have said it won't happen.

Wests won't pushing for a merged State Cup team. Why would they? Don't know what Balmain want to do. But without both agreeing it can't happen.

If the heavyweights at the Wests Tigers want there own team then they will have to enter there own team or pick one club to send its contracted players to (no guess who that will be).

I would imagine it would be the opposite side of where the most opposition to the idea of a merged team was coming from

Nar Balmain Magpies

deadset the lot of you opposed to this need to bang your heads against a wall.

THE BEST THING FOR WESTS TIGERS WOULD BE FIELDING A WESTS TIGERS NSW CUP SIDE. IT IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN FOR THE CLUB.

the merger between these 2 sides happened 11 years ago, and you people carry on like it happened yesterday….....i supported Balmain, and now i support Wests Tigers.

you people need to do the same. the club is not going to go forward with all the infighting amongst people who are meant to be on the same team.

grrrrr

I would never support a Wests Tigers State Cup side if Tim Sheens had any modicum of control over it.

I enjoy going to games to watch football where the players show pride in their performance and very few do it full time.

Also the inveitable loss of some talent to accomodate players who fall out of the age bracket for the NYC competition. Losing a Davis, Akeripa, Mataka, Falow or Nicholls for sub standard players like Florimo and Hyland is a reality that will be bought to bare.

The split State Cup sides is not an ideal situation but it has it's advantages in terms of player development.

Guys like Brett Lane & Matt Ryan are just starting to come into a high point in their development and under the new system mooted it is players like that who will be lost
