Wests Tigers team (official list page 4)

Lui at 5/8 Moltzen at 1/2 back.Maybe this could be a combo to come if anthing happens to Benji.Hope Lui goes well here and keeps faith with other Forum scribes,of cource this is a trial, but I notice some big names in the line up to make it interesting….....Give 'em plenty Lui......

How dare SHEENS puts fitzy in ahead of the like of DAVIS and PRITCHARD . IT'S a dead set insult on these two players, its only a trial and both should have been given their chance to impress . im livid to say the least…

i was about to purchase my tickets tomorrow for the game. but not now Sheens is throwing that rubbish in my face. Sharks by 30

Just because of a winger, settle down.

He had a good season in'05, lets see how he goes. It's his chance

GIVE YOUR SELF AN UPPERCUT NOW … fair dincum

Do you really decide on whether or not to go and support the Wests Tigers depending on who is selected in the team….or is it just a gee up.....

If not said tripple UPPERCUT was headed in the right direction...........

And settle...my spies tell me the 17 named will be joined by a few others....

Tomcat I am in agreement with your point but your hyperbole is rubbish. The inclusion of Fitzy will not determine if we win or lose this game, it is simply a bad selection. No need to exaggerate.

I think the simple facts come down to who is in the contracted top 25 players tomcat. Once the season starts we realistically want to structure the players used so as not to tap into our second tier until unavoidable. Does this mean I disagree with some of the choices for the 25? Yes. But it does not change it.

Yes it would have been good to see those guys and more get a genuine go as it is a trial one must also remember that this is the last trial and as such as much cohesion as possible required. Hopefully the inclusion of Brown at fullback means Tim is true to the thoughts he expressed on not rushing Lui and we will see a Moltzen - Marshall halves combination in round 1.

How many of us selected this team prior to its announcement this arvo? I didn't and I daresay not many of us did. The point is though, this is the side that has been named, and despite our various opinions on who should have been selected, no amount of whining is going to change that. This is the hand we have been dealt so to speak, with probably another 2-4 players added to the team on Saturday.

I think Sheens could have named a stronger side but that's just my opinion and in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean anything. I'll continue to support the team and I'll be there on Saturday hoping that all players play to the best of their ability, that's all any of us can really ask for IMO.

whilst we may not agree with some team selections.
gonna wait and see how they team actually performs, then make judgement.
there maybe a reason for giving younger blokes ago, that we are not privy too

How about we give fitzy a go at wing, and if he's crap against the sharks we can then complain about him. For you know now, he could be a great winger and he might be useful for wing later on in the season if we have injury's. And he is the club's leading try scorer.

Brown isnt that bad and he is a specialist fullback, he hasnt named any-one out of position either. Is Taumata injured at the moment or does he just not fit our team structure?? Maybe he isnt setting the world on fire at training thought he would of made the team some-where

Don't lose faith tomcat, its only a trial.Wait until round 1 and see who is actually in the side.Go and see this game even if you disagree with Fitzhenry in the side.Have a cold one for me when you get there…........

I realise most people are pretty happy with Moltzen at half… but this is really only due to Benji not playing. I wouldn't be holding my breath that it is a permanent thing. Although... I do agree, it would be worth it.

As far as Fitzy goes... I'll back him and give him a chance.

Gone are the days were trials were exactly that, trials. Where a Coach had the opportunity to give up and comer's, fringe and new recruits a go, to push for selection and put pressure on the big boys who themselves believe would be certainties for Round 1\. That doesn't seem to be the case or scenario with Wests.

Coach Sheens to me already has his top 17 team picked for Round 1, with perhaps fitness of a few playing a potential part in seeing an perhaps an odd addition or two disturbing his preferred selection.

The likes of Mullaney, Fiftia, Taumata, Davis, Pritchard, Akeripa, Gower for example are players that SHOULD be getting a definite run, to push their claim for a NRL berth come Round 1\. Instead, it seems that persistence with a few individuals that are obviously flavour of the month has taken precedence in trials thus far.

Having the trials played in 4 x 20 min quarters presents the perfect opportunity for any Coach to try players in different positions, not to mention the opportunity to try more players and see how they perform, to see if their form may warrant a First Grade start.

Instead, just like last week, we will see Lui play all 80 mins in the halves, with another halves prospect in Arana Taumata miss out on a chance and opportunity to assert his claim for the 'vacant' No. 7 jersey. The options at halfback are probably the best they've been in years. Even more reason to let Lui, Moltzen, Taumata, Lazarus all have a decent crack at snaring the No. 7.

Competition for spots, breeds success within a football team. Players knowing that there is someone, a team mate breathing down there neck keeps the incumbent on his toes, knowing that there is no room for error or complacency. It seems that such a thing as healthy competition within does not exist at Wests, with Coach Sheens knowing the squad he wants.

I for one hope, Coach Sheens does take up a larger squad up the F3, and i hope that players like Brown, Fitzhenry, Daniela, Lui are also playing a lot of NSW Cup in the early rounds of the proper Rugby League Premiership with other prospects mentioned above getting to feature in their place.

I believe Lui will be served well if Wests take the Canterbury mindset and approach and treat him like their promising half Ben Barba. Barba who proved to be an enigma in the NYC tore his opposition apart, however was way out of his depth when it come to handling it with the big boys in First Grade. Last year, Moore played him in the NSW Cup. Not only did he bulk up, he was given the opportunity to prove his worth against men, seasoned players with NRL experience, where his development and progress benefited as a result. Lui is raw talent, he has the potential and capability of being a classy half. No question about it, however, i far from ready, and is not the answer to lead Wests to a finals campaign or premiership in 2010 at where his game is currently at. A stint in Reserves maybe just the trick to transform him from an exciting prospect to a valuable prodigy.

See ya's at Gosford

Anyhow........carry on......... :arrow_right: :arrow_right: :arrow_right:

I haven't read the rest of the posts, but I agree with you here Geo.

This screams of preparation for a week one team of:

1 Mitch Brown
2 Lote Tuquiri
3 Blake Ayshford
4 Chris Lawrence
5 Beau Ryan
6 Benji Marshall
7 Tim Moltzen
8 Bryce Gibbs
9 Robbie Farah ©
10 Keith Galloway
11 Gareth Ellis
12 Liam Fulton
13 Chris Heighington

14 Jason Cayless
15 Junior Moors
16 Willie Mataka
17 Geoff Daniela/Daniel Fitzhenry/Robert Lui

A few weeks into the season I'd then expect to see Tuquiri and Brown swapping spots.

And if Tuqiri isn't on the wing in week 1 then it'll only be a couple of weeks before he is…

That's pretty much the exact team I want to see for round one!
and as you say it looks like things are pointing towards that team and I would be very happy with that.

Yet people complain that we got slapped in the Foundation Cup.

We were trialling and Smith did his usual and ran it like a premiership game for 3/4 of the match

I just have visions of the Jason Moody thing. Like others I would have thought this was a good chance to try another player on the wing, Like Sheens we all know what Fitzy can do so why not try a player we are not so sure of at this level.

I get the feeling a team like manly will expose Fitzys lack of pace come round one.Having him against Covell will tell us nothing.

I'll see what Fitzy can deliver post-UK before making the greater consensus of pre-UK judgment that others are happy to deliver all ready.

only plus coming from this is gibbs, mataka and moltzen at halfback…pity benji isnt there to work with him!

cant believe sheens is ignoring the talent we have for the wing!
