Quick question if a player is not named in the 21 man squad (simpkin) and say Robert's pulls up short before kick off and mbye slots into centre can we call him up or is it just the 18- 21 we have to choose from?

AJ Shouldn’t be there. His effort stunk last round. He can consider himself extremely fortunate.

I think it is reasonably clear at this point that Madge talks a good game, but is fairly weak when it actually comes to changes. Even BJ has been given number 19 rather than a 'go shake hands with the reserves coach' style dumping Bennet hands out.

AJ, Brooks, MCK, Garner...Madge has never left anyone out for more than a week.

Just the 18-21

You can get exemptions though - say your hooker goes down and you're not carrying a hooker you can ask the NRL if it's okay to move a hooker from outside the 21 into your squad.

Since when was Talau being groomed as a back rower??? He's played centre and 5/8 is whole career

Mbye at centre and Talau on the wing with Simpkin on the bench. He's been stuffing up bench selections for 3 years it wasn't going to change today.

I think his effort was fine. His execution is slow.
To me it looks like he has talent & ability but isn’t up to speed of the NRL. His runs are more effective than all our backs except Laurie. We just need him to catch the ball.

Effort was not fine. Jogging back after breaks were made, instead of chasing was a bad attitude and lack of effort. He’s very lucky to still be there.

To be fair he punted the main culprit.
Don’t know what options he really has.
It’s round 2 after playing 2 of the top 4 teams in the comp:

He could of put Mbye to center instead but so far Talau has probably looked the most consistent week in week out for us.

Brooks could of gone but Madden isn’t putting pressure on him.

What it shows is how bad our depth is & how limited Madge options are.

He never actually dumped anyone though. He just recycled through them. He leaves players out for a week, they do nothing to rectify their flaws..and back they come.

That is not 'dropping' players. He also rarely goes outside his base 20. It is always just bring back Chee Kam or give Packer his 8th shot.

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire is set to welcome back James Roberts for Sunday’s Round 3 clash against the Newcastle Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Roberts missed last week’s loss to the Sydney Roosters with a minor injury but has been named to return to the side in place of Joey Leilua, who has been named among the reserves in jersey 19.

Representative forward Zane Musgrove will also return this week in a boost for the side after missing the opening two games with a suspension picked up in the 2021 NRL All Stars match. He will start up front alongside captain James Tamou with Joe Ofahengaue dropping back to the bench in place of Michael Chee Kam.

Russell Packer and Alex Seyfarth join Chee Kam and Leilua as the other players named among the reserves to round out the 21-man squad.

Agree he is lucky.

But he is running harder than most.
He also on a few tries up the middle has come across infield for cover.

Right now urgency is lacking for everyone bar Laurie, Liddle & Big Joe.
