Wests Tigers Team v Newcastle Rd 3..

BJ had to go he’s a massive liability far more rocks and very few diamonds, Kepaoa should buy a Lottery ticket and Brooks was never getting dropped. Personally I would have had Talau in for Kepaoa but maybe not having Joey inside him might help and Mbye in the centre’s. Would love to Tuki at least get a spot on the extended bench, I see Musgrove as a big in for us though.

Newcastle always give us a hard time regardless of how the teams are travelling. Not sure who is going to stop Saifiti and Bradman Best. The line speed and aggression will need to improve drastically if we are to give ourselves any chance.

The biggest worry is whether the team has the right attitude and composure out on the field. We've lacked direction in both games so far - there's no ownership out there. I'm just not sure where that leadership and commitment is going to come from because so far it's not coming from Tamou.

This is about what I expected. Newcastle and the eels won’t see kids get their first game.

Brooks has madden nipping at his heels once AD settles. Simpkin will be on the bench once the outside backs are settled.

Interested to see what Mulgrave brings after a brain explosion.

It’s really the first game with a real squad and the first I thought we had a real chance in.

We need to win these game to play finals this year.

The good:

• dropped BJ
• we don’t have 2 rookie forwards replacing 2 experienced forwards

The bad:

• AJ should have been dropped (Tommy T to left wing, Mybe to left centre and Simkin debut as utility)

Why does everyone want to bring in Simpkin , to a team with no confidence , and lacking an identity? Let’s win a couple of games , reset the season , and then talk about debuting him.

Liddle can’t play 80 and Simpkin will add some spark which we’re lacking

But the kids 19 . Maybe we won’t ruin him like we did , say brooks , by doing exactly this , and rushing the kid . I’m fine with holding him off as long as we can . If it means we have this gun 9 for the next 10-15 years .

If he’s good enough he’s old enough imo

Only so much one man can do. The players can't talk highly enough of him but he's not on the field the whole game and it's up to the spine to take control

He's come up with a couple of really poor defensive efforts so far which have led to tries, that's probably the biggest thing I've noticed with him. We do need Brooks to somehow find a voice and direct this team.

Having Ofahengaue come off the bench should help in that area...

One can hope Geo - hell, all we have left right now is hope.

I'm impressed with Ofahengaue's leadership..you could hear him geeing up our guys from the bench as well as sledging the Rorters ..that didn't help but having Tamou and him interchange helps Utoikamanu and Mikaele in their stints..having an experienced player on the field at the same time..

Here's hoping mate. Can't stand it when they don't put in the effort and they simply looked clueless (apart from Laurie) last week. Disappointing given they put so much effort into pre-season and talking about how this year will be different.

AJ Shouldn’t be there. His effort stunk last round. He can consider himself extremely fortunate.

I think it is reasonably clear at this point that Madge talks a good game, but is fairly weak when it actually comes to changes. Even BJ has been given number 19 rather than a 'go shake hands with the reserves coach' style dumping Bennet hands out.

AJ, Brooks, MCK, Garner...Madge has never left anyone out for more than a week.

Hate to say it...but he is all talk.

Literally all he did last year was drop players and it's been two games and he's dropping players already. He's not afraid to do it at all, but with Talau at centre who do we have for wing? Doubt he wants to mess with the spine too much either.

He never actually dumped anyone though. He just recycled through them. He leaves players out for a week, they do nothing to rectify their flaws..and back they come.

That is not 'dropping' players. He also rarely goes outside his base 20. It is always just bring back Chee Kam or give Packer his 8th shot.

There's only so many players to choose from... he would bring players in give them a few games and if they didn't perform they would be gone. Rarely was it a player out for one week and then they'd be back.

It's not like our reserve grade was doing well last season to warrant them being selected.

That is probably our greatest problem actually...reggies have not put pressure for ages. Absolutely ages.

Even now...0 and 2.

Madden poor.

Would help if they won a few and we had some backs down there excelling.

At the moment there's only 2-3 guys in reserves impressing. Seyfarth but he wasn't ready last year, Tuki but he's barely played league and Jake Simpkins but he's very young and raw too

I think the best thing for Simpkin would be to head back to Queensland

Why?The 3 Qld sides have been ordinary as well

Has Roberts swapped sides?
It looks at though he's not paired with AJ
And TT is paired with Nofa?

I hope that is the case. Provides better backline balance.

I think they mean cause he’s switched numbers from #3 to #4.

So has Garner and Luciano now that I look properly.

I'm looking forward to an 80 min performance of full commitment, wearing the jersey with pride and dedication. Surely Tigers have learned their lesson from their past 2 weeks and a win on Sunday will boost the squad's momentum
& self belief.

How is the team named ..
Like.. are there names written down on a notice board or do they receive gold envelopes like on top gear with a challenge inside ?

Hobbo.this may give you some idea of the selection process,I will go back to my days of playing...
1.you go to training on Tues Weds and Friday nights..
2.On Friday after the training is completed you are sat down in the sheds,on the blackboard written in chalk was the FG team and Reserve grade team..
3.We had a selection committee that would converse with the FG and Reserve grade coaches, they would then decide who plays or who doesnt...
4.we had 35 players train every week, every night and out of that 35 ,30 were picked for FG and Reserves..
5.Back then reserves had 13 players and 4 on the bench...out of reserves 2 were picked on the day to be on the bench for first grade....

Things change alot over the years but I dont think Madge is the sole selector...he may have a selection committee as well..not sure but its worth investigating...
Hope this helps a bit Hobs, its been a while since I had a line put through my name mate...:disappointed_relieved:
