WESTS Tigers Team V Penrith...

The team has sanctioned a player for not being committed. He'll read about it in the media, 'From MOM to ISP'. He'll get the message.
I must say, I am disappointed in him.

Fonua dropped for turning up late to training.

Geez I hate this kind of crap. So he was a little late for training, so what? Really, why is it such a big deal? Anyone trying to drive around that hell hole Sydney these days would be late for their own funeral!

We are playing a very good Penrith side, we need our best players on the field if they aren't injured. All this sort of OTT 'discipline' does is weaken the team, disappoint the fans and will most likely see us lose another game that we desperately need to win.

Great decision and certainly not the end of the world. The way I see it, Fonua getting dropped works in our favour rather than against us. Let's be realistic, Fonua is not at that level where we will win because of him however giving Kevvy, Nofo and MWZ that added motivation to keep their spots next week will.
Also how would the decision to let it slide go against the culture they're building?Just look at what happened to the Titans when Hayne was there.

Most likely see us lose? More melodramatics. He might secretly hope we lose, because if we don't, he won't be back next week.

IMO fining someone never works , this is why idiots still use their phones in cars it is just money, take there licence the phones will not be in there hands. I do not feel I am being punished ,after the way the club has been run the last decade I applaud the actions taken ….examples have to be made the players do not run our club anymore!

You might feel differently if that fine was $10k-$20k rather than a couple of hundred bucks.

You seem to be missing the main point, that being, his peers and their five co-captains made this decision.

And if this weekends game was a qualifying final Fonua would be playing !

If the club were deadset serious Fonua wouldn't be playing ISP either this weekend .

5 co-captains LMAO …that's a joke in itself !

What would you prefer? The 5 leaders dejected because a team mate isn’t putting in. That sort of thing has a ripple effect.
If it was such a minor thing, do you think they would have approached the coaching staff.

Fonua was late because he slept in not because of traffic…I dare say if traffic was the reason or an accident he would still be in the team...

You need a line...

Im sure dozens of players turn up late to training thanks to Sydney traffic. That's a given. If its out of yours hands, that's one thing. If you are too lazy to get out of bed, that's another.

The Fonua thing, I think is more than just setting high expectations and culture.

It also reinforces positive attributes on-field. It might sound like a stretch, but a player who thinks he can come late to training and not put in, can easily become a player who thinks he can breeze through a game and still get his paycheque and FG spot. That's part of the broader argument about having depth, to be able to penalise people who don't put in on or off the field and still field a decent team.

It's not just about money with footballers, there is the pride / ego / career aspect of playing regular FG, so I support a dumping as opposed to a fine. Sure you can fine a bloke 10K but when he might be on 200+K, per year, it can still be change to some of these guys.

Also with depth, like the Aussie cricket sides of years gone by, if you drop out of the top side and your replacement performs, you might not find yourself back in it.

Well put

Cleary would've approached the 5 leaders not the other way round .

if it was Fonua's 3rd time being late it would be understandable …
There's setting standards and setting standards ..
Way OTT IMO !

The leaders have been part of the decision. They will set up. We win be on our game.
Tacky, image if MCK was late for training.

BEAST would never be late to training

I hate to upset you Tacky, but the BEAST's jersey from last weeks game is the lowest price at auction ATM.

Got a link to the auction ?

Anthony Griffen dropped 3 players in one week last year for disciplinary reasons. It’s how MWZ got the chance to debut. Standard stuff.

You've never slept in and been late for work? It's a human weakness, a mistake, not a criminal offence.

Guess the question i have is was he late after he thought Naiqama was going to take his position back or was it just coincidental.

Exactly, it isn’t a criminal offence. He’s only been dropped, big deal. Hopefully it makes him set his alarm a little earlier. Also let it be a lesson to everyone else.

The other backs will have to play a blinder. As Fonua will be coming back.
Nofo, MWZ, Kev will all be putting in.
This is how a committed culture is built. It's not words. It's actions.
Do you think Bellyache would have let a player off for being late?
.

He has let them off for a lot more than being late.

was he too lazy to get out of bed or did he just sleep in ??
if he just slept in this is harsh not only to him but to the tigers fans who want to win
he was the difference vs the cowboys and why doesnt nofolouma get punished for not improving he still cant defend and reward him every week i dont get it
