someone…...pllleeeeaaaasssseee.....tell me why the hell michael chee kam is in there....he is our worst forward by far....if he is even classed as one

Yeah I'm a bit perplexed by that one as well. He apparently had a decent game against Cronulla - maybe he wouldn't be there if Aloiai was fit. I think Grant can consider himself unlucky, thought he was good for us in the trials, looks to be running with more intent and I think we could use another specialist prop in that team.

Also I'm surprised that Taylor, Benji and Twal just waltz into the side after being under an injury cloud for weeks and not playing any pre season games. Still in Ivan we trust….

Have to give Chee-Kam credit on this one, he really seems like he's had a big offseason, and he's much better suited as an edge backrower rather than a centre. Looked good against the Cowboys and backed it up against Cronulla, showed good energy and consistently got fast play-the-balls. If Aloiai was fit then perhaps he would miss out, but like Thompson and Rochow, he deserves his chance.

I am surprised with Goodinets selection
I hope he kills it until Liddle becomes available
Goodinet may become the new Nickorima of the bench for us when Benji retires or is injured

I'm not, his service and energy out of dummyhalf was far superior to McIlwricks and he got us on the front foot far more effectively.

The only surprise for me is Tui named at fullback. I expected him to win the jersey back eventually but at least we have him kicking goals this week.

Goodinets service was good and Brooks started to look much better when Goodinet was giving him more time.

Nofo had a feeling this would happen at some point in the first 6 weeks, hopefully he works hard and gets back in the team as we will need him.

Rochow rewarded for working hard and playing well in the trials.

I think Grant is unlucky to not be in the 17 and wont be surprised if he ends up playing.

Really unlucky injury for Aloiai he has looked very promising and wish him a fast recovery.

On paper that's a very weak team. Let's hope the sum of all parts is stronger than the individual components.

Thats probably one of the worst backlines i have ever seen….forward pack doesn't look much better....long season ahead im afraid to say

I think the team that takes the field round one will still have changes made to it later on , coach would have picked this team on Player efforts in training , trials , what we need to do is get out to the game and support them. , we need a good start to the year and if we can get the first grade and second grade teams up his week it will make it harder for players to move from one team to the other and the players all want to,play top grade so effort will be a major factor from now on. , Each player will give his all and we will end up with our best in the top grade soon enough , bar injuries , take a deep breath people and enjoy some footy , I'm Tipping we win both games and start all the upset games we win where we are given no chance ,
Look,for a solid Effort from
Rocko
Packer
Reynolds
Lawrence
These are my tips for a good game

I cant see how that bench will work… I'd assume Grant will come onto that on Saturday.

I expect there will be some changes there before kick off . I don’t think Benji will play.

We've got few stars and lots of similar quality players, so if you don't reward those who have delivered over the off season and preseason it sends a bad message throughout the squad, this does the opposite, so I'll back Ivan here. Hopefully all those who missed out knuckle down, lift their game and as Benny would say we come up trumps and collect the carrot at the end of the rainbow

If Dave was dropped for disciplinary reasons (as some have mooted. I have no idea) that would explain Tui's sudden revival.

2017: Weak edge defence, not enough middle forwards on the bench, obsession with bench utilities.

2018: Masters and Naiquama in the centres, two utility players and one genuine prop on the bench.

I do trust Cleary has a plan, but that's a Taylor bench and I'm worried our centres will just look like daylight to Manu and Mitchell.

We have 2 quality front rowers on the bench that are both very good in their own right, a backrower and a backup utility. It's not really that bad, and if you swap Chee-Kam for Aloiai it's really what everybody expected.

Couldn't help myself and had a look at the Roosters game day thread, most of them think it will be the easiest game of the year and a guaranteed 2 points. I hope we cause an upset

Yeah I think our 1 - 5 are pretty slow, not expecting length of the field runs or tries. I think Brooks would be the quickest back we have on the field.

There's an awful lot of negativity already about team selections. Reality is, it's a pretty decent team given our roster and availabilities.
Kevs selection at centre is probably the only one that concerns me given his history of defensive reads. And Grants omission must be a hard one for him. But all in all, hardly worth worrying about. Look at our first five games….plenty of opportunity for everyone I reckon.

Best for time being …... Milne for mine in centres and JJ in second row .... but the Coach knows best.

Fonua
Milne
Aloiai
McQueen
Mcilwrick
I’m concerned about godinet, but it’s Ivan’s call, I just hope it’s the right one.
