Wests Tigers Head Coach Michael Maguire has named five club debutants as part of a 21-man squad to take on the St. George-Illawarra Dragons in Round 1 this Sunday, March 15.

Joey and Luciano Leilua have both been named to start alongside each other for their first NRL game together, while fellow new recruits Adam Doueihi, Billy Walters and Zane Musgrove have also been included in the extended 21-man squad.

Doueihi will start in the centres with co-captain Moses Mbye ruled out with injury, while Walters has been named at hooker with Musgrove on the bench.

After an impressive 2019 campaign that saw him voted as the Players' Player of the Year, Corey Thompson will start at fullback with David Nofoaluma and Robert Jennings rounding out the back five with spots on the wing.

Young props Josh Aloiai and Alex Twal both earning starting spots, along with Elijah Taylor who will feature at lock, with Thomas Mikaele, Zane Musgrove and Chris Lawrence all named on the bench. With Walters starting at hooker, Josh Reynolds also joins the bench in jersey 15 with Michael Chee Kam, Oliver Clark, Matt Eisenhuth and Paul Momirovski all named as reserves.

Co-captain Benji Marshall will officially lead the side out on Sunday with Mbye unavailable as Wests Tigers look to win their sixth consecutive season opener.

Will be interesting to see when Momo and MBye are fit, who drops out of the team. Jennings and... Thomo? Anyway, can't wait for Sunday. Should be a cracker.

Me personally, if you buy a fullback, play hm at fullback, how is he going to settle in

Thompson is not a fullbacks bootlace ! If we were hoping to brake the 9th finishing hoodoo this is not a good start ...some of these selections are a joke !

JR to hooker at some stage is a worry... As expected

He will go alright there for 20-30 minutes. Hope Walters has a great game.

That's my way of thinking too.

Centre solution is temporary guys... no need to get your knickers in a knot.... allow douehi to adjust to the team while he plays in that position that he IS capable of playing in....

twas mentioned in another thread about this already

Would expect a 1-5 reshuffle if Momorovski is ready to play. Jennings to CC, AD to fullback and Thommo on the flank.

Doubt it . He will be wrapped in cotton wool , if the trade is on

stoked with the forward pack, Madge has rewarded the pre-season performers and demoted the ones that didn't play to their abilities. give Doueihi some time to settle in, Thompson was the incumbent and had plenty of time at the back from November, I think it's only fair he starts the season there.

Congrats to #256 Joey Leilua #259 Luciano Leilua #257 Adam Doueihi #258 Billy Walters and #260 Zane Musgrove who will all be making the Wests Tigers debut in our Mighty Jersey..

Not sure about Lawrence in the 17, offers nothing in attack, would have liked MCK who has that X factor about him.

Actually he's a 6 and they're trying to turn him into a 1 just like Lolohea 🤷‍♂️
