It should never be forgotten that Campbelltown saved Wests Magpies from extinction in 1987\. Moving to Campbelltown from Lidcombe was the only thing that saved us.
But the region never really embraced the Magpies and I don't think ever really embraced Wests Tigers either. It's nearly 30 years now that League at the top level has been played there but it just hasn't caught on in its current format. Why I'm not sure …. Maybe they want a more local team to represent them than an inner city joint venture .... And that's fair enough. Would have been interesting to see if a MacArthur Magpies or a Campbelltown Tigers team had of got off the ground whether it would have done any better. I think it would have but only if it was consistently winning.
Can understand entirely the thoughts of the council and mayor .... But from a Wests Tigers strategic planning point of view, if they can find something more viable, they would be mad not to pursue it.
