Wests Tigers have named a 24-man squad for this Saturday’s trial match against the St George Illawarra Dragons at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.

Head Coach Jason Taylor has named a host of experienced players for the clash such as Chris Lawrence, Elijah Taylor, Sauaso Sue and Luke Brooks.

New recruit Jamal Idris will play his first game for Wests Tigers, named alongside another new signing in Matt McIlwrick who debuted in the NRL Auckland Nines last weekend.

The majority of the Wests Tigers’ NRL Auckland Nines squad will travel to Wollongong, with 15 players from the tournament set to back-up against the Dragons.

Connelly Lemuelu, a versatile outside back who joined Wests Tigers’ Holden Cup squad this season from Keebra Park, will get an opportunity to impress in the trial match.

Fellow rookies Moses Suli, Jeremy Marshall-King, Matt Eisenhuth, Wes Lolo, Watson Heleta, Esan Marsters and Bayley Sironen round out an exciting squad mixed with youth and experience.

Wests Tigers Intrust Super Premiership and Holden Cup sides will play at Kirkham Oval on Saturday, with teams to be confirmed for those games later this week.

I really don't like this practice of naming squads for trials - just name a goddamn team! It's a trial, people are expecting you to change it regularly anyway, how hard is it to give us the likely starting side, even if they only play 20-30 mins?

The following Friday night we have our final hit out at Campbelltown Sports Stadium against the Cowboys. This will provide the chance to see how we measure up against one of the leading sides in the NRL and welcome some of the superstars of the game to Campbelltown. As always this game is free for our Members and I encourage you to get out and enjoy a night at the football. For those of you who aren’t able to make it I pleased to announce that once again we’ll be live streaming the game through our website. This marks the third straight year that we’ve done so and the response each time has been great from our Members and fans. Triple M commentator Anthony Maroon will be joining us once again for what will surely be a light-hearted call of the game.

So how many runs will our top 17 have together before Round 1 ??

I think JT will run a full team with some maybes against the cowboys.

Yeah that'll be heaps , all we need , like we are 9 time undefeated NRL champions aren't we ??

From memory thats what he did last year. Run a team of hopefuls and regulars first trial and then a stronger second trial with some that were on the cusp? My memory has failed me before but thats my recollection your honour.
