What’s Richo Made Of

Not sure why Stef is copping it so much and some of our more experienced players are getting a free pass- we were leading 14-4 when Stef went off in first half and he made 42 tackles with only 1 miss, no errors and no penalties.

API had 10 missed tackles and 3 ineffective, Olam made 4 of the 10 errors we made, Seyfarth had 9 missed or ineffective and gave away 2 penalties and made the simplest of errors and was the 2nd row defender on a side which fell apart. Sullivan made errors, missed tackles and got sin binned.

Do you think the contract drama could be a reason he is targeted for his efforts?

You can't punt him. It has to come from Benji himself which I can't see happening.

The ideal situation is Benji decides he isn't ready, puts his hand up and steps down. Arthur comes in. The parra players loved Arthur for 10 years, so I reckon Luai and Turuva will be fine with the change.

I know coaches typically have a lot of ego … but are we sure Arthur wants to come here ? he has a lot to lose being Coach number 8 or whatever it is trying to turn this disaster around

He will probably be the next coach hired in the NRL … so he just needs to bide his time and end up with a gig elsewhere … probably by this time next year

I wonder if 4 back to back spoons is a record? Sad to think that’s a possibility.

At this point like many I’m flat as.
My wife asked me last night “why do you do this?” I can’t even answer anymore. Hard to hang onto any level of positivity after where we are yet again.

Your lucky, your missus is happy for you to turn away. The only reason I still watch league is because the family does. The one game I deliberately didn't watch because i had enough, I knew the family were at home all watching it. It's hard to turn away under those circumstances. I'm even starting to resent the wife for keeping me going through this. She says "just don't to take to heart so much" but 11 years wears you down. Throw in my hatred for the NRL in general, and my life is miserable in the winter. Lol. I need some perspective I think.

What drama- we have made him an offer and are in negotiations - haven’t seen him comment on it or negotiate with anyone else

The fact he is contracted for next year yet negotiations are happening to keep him here is drama is it not?
It also doesn't matter if the drama is real or perceived. The fans are hearing about it so he is a target

Poor bugger!
My family couldn’t give a toss and my wife is from Penrith so sittin pretty.
The worst part about last night is my future son in law is a mad Dragons fan so happily roasting me. We actually call the Tigers vs Dragons fixtures the Shite shield because we’ve both been so poor for so long. Might have to drop that name given how they pumped us last night.

Nah, I think the Parra-sites had about 5 but that was a long time ago back in the 50's, nearly as far back as their last premiership win. 🤣

My Mrs has a different approach, when I come to bed she always asks me, "Did Tigers win?"

Thought she would know the answer by now. 😡

“Although tonight was terrible, there’s definitely been improvements and we’re on a path to building for our future, especially with our local juniors,” Marshall said.

Anyone who has seen Shane Richardson in action will tell you that he leaves you in no doubt that he is the boss. The head honcho. The captain of the ship.

He's nothing like Pascoe. He's not trying to be best mates with the players or star in a documentary made about the club.

In fact he is more likely to rip a player a new one than have a beer with him after the game. This is exactly what we need.

My read on the situation is that this is 100% what is happening at the moment. A large portion of the roster are nervous and perhaps even a bit unhappy that their future is uncertain as he's doing a roster cleanout.

And in all honesty, we will probably cop a season of bad results to come out of the storm next season. There's only so much the bloke can do in six months.

Benji is actually the perfect coach for this situation. A lot of senior coaches won't put up with a CEO being so hands on with hiring and firing. He'll have a lot more to work with next year in terms of players but also with culture.

Richo moving players on is the most important factor. We are in for a world of pain poor squad and players being shopped. Has to be done hopefully for once they can get it right. I have no faith we are so bad we will struggle for years.

A great input this morning champion @Papacito

I dunno, hard to not be emotional right now.

We have a couple of decent players on the way, just need to add a a couple more in our obviously weak positions and we should see an improvement.
We have always been waiting for improvement, but we never get it !

Previous management are complete morons. Hiring the clubs biggest legend as coach without any prier experience

If it fails you put your self in a horrible corner where you have to sack a club legend for 3rd time in his life

Richo should have a sit down with Benji and suggest he do a proper apprenticeship as an assistant coach or flegg coach or something under an experienced head coach like Brad Arthur. Benji should swallow his pride and recognize that this is too big a job for a rookie coach. There’s no shame in that. Appointing a rookie coach to turnaround the wests tigers was the act of a desperate, inept and ineffectual board. Don’t compound this error by persisting with it for longer than it takes to know it’s not working and is unlikely to start working.
He was supposed to do an apprenticeship remember? And the guy we brought as mentor in got sacked (again).

Great post. I agree. Emotion gets to one on game day and I call for coach, players, ceo, the lunch lady and lawn mower to be hung drawn and quartered. However, having known Richo from Gateshead Thunder to today, he IS the man for the job, probably the only man for the job in the modern game.

I also feel Benji has the potential to be a great coach and a long time coach, if and only if he has the experience around him. I dont think JoMo and Faff are the answer at the moment. He needs plenty of old heads around him, Uncle Wayne and Daddy Sheens on the mobile isnt enough. The key is to find a few old heads that are happy to play second fiddle and drop the ego.

I think the problem is now no longer the back office and coach as it has been for a decade. The main problem is simply the playing roster and culture of zero accountability. Its simply the problem but its not a simple problem to solve.

All we hear about is the juniors coming through. The last lot that were any good was the 2013 group of Brooks, Mosses, Teddy, Nofo, Sue etc. Where are the juniors coming through we have heard about for a decade from this club? Pretty much the entire roster needs to be sacked and replaced. We all know this is the core problem but its just not feasible to do it. In the era of pro league its not possible, but we almost need a watershed season or 2 to play reggie players, and cop the spoons (which we do now anyways so what the difference?) to simply shell the roster and start again, recruiting for 2026/7 and onwards with Api retired, Luai, Bula, Latu boys and Galvin are the only ones youd want to keep from 2026/7. Simple to say, not simple to implement as we have rebuilt 5 times now in 12 years. However, the difference is we now have Richo and Benji.

I figured out the real reason for Richo’s trip to the UK.
It was to sound out the interest for the Super League clubs to take on the WestsTigers.
