What did you think of the boys effort overall?

I know this has been mentioned in various posts but I thought it deserved its own thread.

Personally, I was quite impressed with their attitude in both attack and defence. Normally, if a side half as good as Melbourne gets a set on our line - they score. Yet, last night we defended set after set after set. It was only with 20min to go, on the back of 11-12 penalties at the time, that our defence got tired and Melbourne capitalised.

Even in attack, there were sets where we really had their defence on the back foot and our forwards were making really good yards on each tackle.

Furious at the refs for destroying what could have been a very enjoyable game for both sets of fans and neutrals. But, happy with the attitude that we showed. If we could bring that every week, we'd be set for a decent season (we are still a little short in talent and depth in some positions).

Summed up nicely… They were out on their feet from the 60th, on the back of a massive effort and a piss poor ref effort.. They keep that level of heart and intensity up, the rest of the season's looking good. Big pat on the back of the fwd pack... That's what we need every game. Someone else mentioned it on another thread, we were never gunna win down there and spoil next weeks top of the table, undefeated clash melb/sths... Very sad ref effort, does nothing for the NRL brand.

Top effort….I can cop losses on effort like that...sadly we arent consistent at it

Poor effort from Robbie continuing to debate the ref...just zip it Rob, and re-focus....you'll never win.

it's interesting as well a little frustrating listening and reading the media fall out from this game. Now as a Tigers fan i thought the boys really stood up and yes were probably guilty of some silly errors but overall despite the score it was our best performance. Just listening to MMM Sterlo et al have just ripped into us. We threw it away, we were ill disapplined and made poor choices.

If we has held on and won I know without doubt we would not have been given any credit at all. It would have been how bad Melb were etc etc. All were heard from the commentators on Friday was how good the Bulldogs are going with all their players missing, the same is not afforded to us. IS it me or does anyone else hear this same bias?

I really don't care that we lost last nigth as we were $6 outsiders with no one giving us a hope. My theory is that the so called experts just hate being made to look stupid so will just bag us for ever more, expecially as they put us as favs last year. They don't like being wrong.

In many ways the commitment and effort shown by the forwards last night was what we, the fans, have been wanting to see for a long time. Our team lost but most of us fans are happy with the effort.

They need to draw a line in the sand now and that effort should become their benchmark. No going backwards from here.

If they do that they should win more than they lose and give themselves a pass mark this season.

No complaints from me really.

- Moltzen, Reddy and Tedesco were good at the back with Reddy a standout. All 3 made mistakes but all 3 were heavily involved all game.

- Rowdy and Aysh were better. Rowdy still a long way off his best but got involved heaps more last night. Aysh was strong in D and carried the ball well. He was probably a little too eager a few times knocking on balls meant for Reddy but it showed he was in the game for mine.

- Benji did some good things and defended well. Would have notched up a couple more try assists if Ayshford had of let his face balls hit their target. Played injured nearly all game which showed he gives a stuff about this team. Got sloppy towards the end of the game.

- Braith was in my top 5 last night. Thought he played well and had a huge dig in defence.

- The bash brothers…Blair, Thomo and Fast Ed, looking mean with their 'clubber Laings' ripped and teared all night long resulting in 2 of them being charged. They hit Melbourne hard and ran it even harder...it was a wolf pack mentality from these 3 and I loved it.

- Bell was tireless, he kept charging it up and made a heap of tackles. No weak link here.

- Woodsey and Buchanan were very impressive as they have been all year. They are the youngest prop pairing in the comp but you wouldnt know it. Great defence, great meters from both.

- Farah tried his guts out last night but his game did suffer from his passion a bit. He was well aware that we were being screwed and let it get to him a bit. Still he tackled his arse off and set up a brilliant try.

- The benchies - Murdoch-Masila, Seumanufagai, Akaoula were great as well....all forwards played strong last night. BMM had one of those games that I wished he could replicate most weeks. He was excellent.

Benji and Robbie are copping a bit of flack on here unnecessarily for mine. They were involved in both tries and tried hard. Probably too hard. They need to show more confidence in their mates and let them shoulder some of the work. As for Robbie arguing with the ref...some of it was genuine frustration, but most of it was designed to give his team a quick breather. They needed it when they defended 3/4 sets in a row a few times on their line.

So true. Where has this BMM been hiding - in place of his recent lack-lustre attitude he actually showed passion last night that I have not seen before!

Well said Stryker, pretty much echoes my sentiments. Was a refreshing display, and hoping to see Potter build on that physicality. I don't think Melbourne really expected us to come out and be as aggressive as we were.

My favourite part last night was 10 minuites or so into the second half, we were hammering their line and they forced a turnover. From the resultant scrum Benji marched Widdop across field to Ayshford who threw him into touch. This pissed Melbourne off and during the next set of 6 they hit us hard and nearly every tackle involved dirty play….didnt matter though as we scored through a great kick chase by Reddy and BMM who sent Benji across in the corner. Braith then converted from the sideline.

This little passage of play is what the best sides do consistently. To me it was a little insight into what this side is capable of and with a few more months of tweaking and game experience this could be our norm as well. Whether that happens in time for us to make the finals is probably a stretch but it is a good platform for next year and beyond.

last night's effort was very pleasing to watch.
everyone ripped in and, did not back down one bit.
showed they can play gritty and can really trouble any team especially, the reigning premiers.
played very hard and can be proud of themselves.

If they play this well and back it up next week, I might just consider paying thus years membership and getting my annual jersey.

Well done lads.

I have been saying to a couple of my work colleagues, that I would be disappointed if we miss out on the eight. But I would not blame the boys if they play like they did last night and only to be bent over by the refs.

Very happy with our performance in the forwards last night. still think the centres are letting us down.

Good points you have made here. There is certainly a bias about reporting of our games unless Benji rips a side to shreds. When we win close ones the concensus is certainly that the opposition werent that good. We are a frrustrating side, not just for us fans or the punters out there but for the 'experts' as you never know what team will turn up to play. We win games we shouldnt and lose games that no-one expects us to. This makes their pre game analysis look silly quite often.

As for Sterlo, he is held in high esteem in the league world and rightly so as he achieved a lot but as a comentator I think he is very close to the games biggest tool. Remember years ago when he used to stop the play and draw all over the screen pointing out the bleeding obvious? He is an egotistical dickhead who thinks that we are all stupid.

#EDIT# sorry for swearing mods, peanut will do…not quite my feelings on him but it'll do :sunglasses:

This thread has been a great read, hopefully there are more to come this year.

Hopefully the team shows up with the same attitude next week and we put the Stains to the sword.

All the comments above have been on the money. You can hear everyone so excited about the effort and mongrel that thaey played with against the Storm, if only we got them at the end, that would have been the highlight of the year for me. Until the next big yupset anyway. Proud to be a Wests Tigers supporter and make that effort the benchmark for our week in and week out games. Now let kick some St George ass! :sign:

I thought this was deliberate from Robbie. He kept bringing up the Hinchcliff knock-on which I thought at the time was just to give the boys a breather.

Definitely a tactic to give us a breather and disrupt Storm momentum.
