hic!

Mate only white wine I have ever drank to excess and not had a hangover. They really do it right there.

Jim Beam, Devils cut burbo or Woodstock burbo. Might only drink it 3 - 4 times a year now.
Used to drink a lot of Stolichnaya vodka mixed with lemonade.

White Bay Pale Ale is good and they're also opening up a tasting bar at the brewery in Balmain. They also do some nice crafts with Little Marionette coffee.

Support Little Marionette, the owner and his brother are big Tigers fans and the coffee is very good.

Not a beer man, prefer Stella, Peroni or Carlsberg on a hot day after mowing.

Prefer the odd red.

Can recommend:
Cat among the Pigeons - Shiraz
Pepperjack - Shiraz

or

Tulloch's Cab. Sav. or Dry Red (if you can find it).

Some good wines there Russ. Enjoyed a 2013 pepper jack a few nights ago. Great drop.
You would probably like a Martins Shiraz. Don’t pay full price though.

HIGHLY recommend Lakes Folly if you can get your hands on it.

Yes good wines, I met Max a few years ago.

Must have been a while ago, poor buggers been dead for a while.

Yeh, around 1980. He’d only just started his wine business 10 or so years.

I met him a couple of time late 80's. really nice guy. Great wine. IMO the only decent wine in the Hunter.

Tamerlane is pretty good, did a really good late Semillon few years back. My favourite white I've ever had outside of the 2014 Ring of Fire late Semillon I had at my wedding. Tempus Two does a good Verdelho.

I have had the opportunity to sell some fine wines during my career in hospitality CB,,you mentioned Tempest Two,where I work at the moment we sell a lot of the Tempest Rose especially with the diners,we also sell a huge amount of the Southern Highlands Wines Pinot Noir..I dont drink red wines but have a taste for a nice Sav Blanc at times and the Oyster Bay Sav Blanc from NZ is a very delectable wine...

Haven't had the old Lakes for donkeys - didn't know they were still going. I knew that Max lake died in 2009 following an accident and thought the winery in Pokolbin had closed since. Apparently the Foggarty family have taken over and only produce two wines that cost a fortune. The question is ......Is it still as good as Max Lake's Folly?

Russ, now that you mention it I remember going through that area about 6 or 7 years ago and pretty sure the cellar door was closed at the time. I was disappointed because I’d never been there. Still haven’t. Slept a few nights in the merlot vineyard, which I was very grateful for.

I haven't had any Lakes since about 1985 - 90 - the guy over the road was going up to Pokolbin and I got him to call in and grab me a half a dozen Lakes on his way past. That was about it. Spent many years working in radio in the Upper Hunter at 2NM and enjoyed many a good wine from Denman Estate, Arrowfield and Sobels Queldinburg just this side of Muswellbrook. Moved to 2NX in Newcastle and had many trips up to Pokolbin and Tulloch's Winery and Brian McGuigan was the wine maker at Wyndham Estate at that time where 2NX put on a free concert, which went really well. Not a bad drop either Mate. Ah! those were the days.

When were you at 2NM? I grew up in Aberdeen.

Sav Blanc is very popular, I always keep a couple of oyster bay, monkey bay on the chill for visitors. I’m into the full bodied reds, use a lot of red wine in cooking along with brandy.

A long time ago Cochise, 2NM 1973-75, 2NX 1970-71 and 1975 - 77 (they were owned by 2SM in those days).
Nice place Aberdeen, used to sell advertising there in the day, also at Scone, Denman, Merriwa and Singleton.
Enjoyed my time at Muswellbrook, nice people.

It is a small world TT, remember at one of those concerts as a promotion 4 of us set off to kayak down the Hunter to Newcastle. Probably only got about a quarter of the distance. Legs have never been so sore in my life...that's what happens when you come up with stupid ideas.
