what ERA did u support THE CLUB

90s Balmain
Shannon Nevin
Laloa Milford
Gilette
Bubba Kennedy
Senter
Duckworth etc

One of my fondest memories as a kid was meeting Laurie Nichols who told me to meet him on a tuesday arvo and he would take me to tigers training. I rocked uup with that bumble bee jersey and he took me out the back to meet the players (Solomon Haumono etc) and they signed my jersey

Old man immigrated here, barely spoke a lick of English and his boss asked him what footy team he went for, obviosuly dad didnt have one but the boss was a wests fan, my old man asked who were wests playing this weekend and he said balmain, so my dad chose balmain. Preety poetic how it all worked out ...wests tigers now

Edit: Great thread by the way.. @Merlot I'm enjoying reading all these genesis stories ...

My dad worked with Glenn Grief’s dad, and Glenn would often take me into the dressing room after the game to meet the players. I remember once I was standing there waiting to meet Andrew Leeds who was talking to one of the assistant coaches and Grief said “we’ll come back”, and Leeds stopped himself mid sentence and said “nah it’s ok” and shook my hand and had a chat with me. Then a year or two later, Grief signed with the Knights. I was devastated.

Been a Balmain supporter since 1966 , however growing up near Lidcombe Oval frequented many Wests games over the years and warmly welcomed the merge between the two clubs , Go the Wests Tigers 👍
It sounds like you and I need a complete medical assessment and more importantly get our heads examined for following a team/s for that long with only 2 successes. 🤣 Go Wests Go Tigers

Glenn Grief was a legend for us in those days and very young. Andrew Leeds was my favourite player

The loss against the Roosters hurt more than the Dragons loss. I still vividly remember Lui, in front of me taking a shot in extra time. Missed by a coat of paint. Probably the most painful loss i have ever experienced
Agreed. Drags loss was well and truly engineered…

Had a realisation the other day. Most of us are over 30 and supported either Wests or Balmain prior. Since 1989, Balmain, Wests and Wests Tigers combined have made the finals 6 times in 33 years. Six times combined.
Well I've been together with my partner for 22yrs and I have only succeeded 4 times that I know of 🤣
Just gotta keep trying and hang in there!

Always loved league, especially SOO. Grew up in a rural area. Didn’t have a team. In Yr 11 or 12 my mates were hacking on me for not having a team so I picked the brand new one. Been hooked ever since. My mates are still hacking on me 🤣

Was your dad Italian, worked on the wharves by any chance?

In actual fact I think we all do 😁

I’m an old fella. I have very vague memories of the tigers winning in ‘69 and my dad bought me a guernsey as they were called then … and the rest is history as they say….. so two premierships in 53 years… that’s persistence for you.
