What happens to Balmain now?

The bottom line is both clubs WESTS & BALMAIN" are dead & buried in the long term!!!!
The WESTS TIGERS should be the only brand that exists now!!!!
The dinosaurs that still run these leagues clubs/football clubs & their supporters are living in fairyland!!!! WTF? Its 2011 guys "get with the programme"!!!!!!!
No one in their "cotton pickin" right minds cares what happens in NSW/BUNDY CUPS" -Thats why Sydney is way behind virtually any other place in this country- get over yourselves- ur the past- QLD is the future!!!!!!!! as is WA!!!!

Dont tell fibs. Wests Tigers were never able to field a State Cup side as they dont have a licence to do so. So if they want one State Cup team it either had to be Balmain or Wests.

So why are they then giving hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of resources to Balmain and none to Wests ????

Why dont they simply apply for a licence?

Failure to grant such a licence would fly in the face of Geoff Carrs mandate forcing NSW Clubs fielding teams in the NSW Cup…

The only way forward for the entire NRL is to have a proper reserve Grade.
No NSW cup.
No QLD cup.
One Competition with the same 16 teams as first grade.

If they want one they can simply apply for it and it will be approved as the club meets all current criteria.

As for why the clubs board approved the move they did I can only imagine that Wests Ashfield, Wests Campbelltown and Wests Tigers were sick and tired of dealing with the obstructive, self absorbed numpties who ran WS Junior RL for so many years. Just add them to a long list of sponsors, volunteers and even Group competitions. In many ways I feel for the new board as they seem to want to move forward but maybe the damage has been too long for them to have a fair go.

Still I would prefer to see it as a WT side

Depends on what your definition of fair is Bug. Were both Wests and Balmain offered the opportunity to merge as one State Cup side in 2012 under the name Wests Tigers? IF Wests were offered that opportunity and declined, and Balmain said yes, well I don't see a problem personally - Wests Tigers laid their cards out for all to see and decide upon as they see fit. If Wests were completely brushed (and hopefully one of the Wests diehards on here can confirm), then this is unfair.

If Wests said no thanks for 2012 to funding, admin, clothing, equipment, coaches, medical staff, training facilities and PLAYERS !!!! Then you are right. (But they did not).

But how does that explain the many years prior to 2012 when Balmain got all the best NRL players and equipment ???
 
Both clubs were offered to merge in nsw cup. Balmain accepted because they were broke and their traditional
Tigers brand would stay alive (if merged). If wests magpies accepted a merge then they would say goodbye to the TRADITIONAL wests/magpies club at senior level for good. Thats why magpie diehards are so passionate about this issue. Balmain diehards (if there are any) are not fussed nor dont seem to care about staying alive on their own at senior level. Combine that with the fact that the wests side of the jv provide the bulk of quality juniors and leagues club funding (thru ashfield and campbelltown), wests magpies nsw cup club and fans say why cant they just be the sole feeder side to WT if balmain cant stay afloat…

I have read this bulk of talent line for many years and it is simply not true, the bulk of our talent has come from outside the foundation nurseries and the financial funding is divided as per the JV agreement and that has not changed in over a decade.

I was a Balmain fan and they will always be in my heart in one way or another. It is just I have embraced Wests Tigers as the present and future and accept that what is best for Wests Tigers is all that is important bar respectful nods to the past in heritage rounds etc.

To move forward one must accept the past as past and look to the future.

The Balmain Tigers brand is gone. It is assigned to the RL history books at the beginning of this millennium. Wests Tigers holds the name Tigers and plays four games from Leichhardt a season and that is the only semblance of the club that I supported before the JV. The Western Suburbs Magpies brand is in exactly the same boat but some people dont seem to grasp the concept of holding that past dear but moving forward in the direction of the relevant and viable club
 
Its not about being resistive to change or not moving forward.. Its about recognising the identity and tradition of 50% of wests tigers. Its not about breaking down WT or being a hinderance to the success of WT. Its about making up for the lack of identity of the original wests brand within modern day WT. Scroll through the dozens of posts about whats lacking. 90% of fans and media call them WT 'the tigers'. All magpies Diehards think that to make up for this ignorance, why not have the wests magpies be the sole nsw cup feeder side for WT. That would keep the diehards happy and less vocal. Not trying to make it a sticking point but if you want to debate juniors contribution, name 10 significant first graders from balmain juniors to play for wt.

Wests were offered the opportunity to have a fully funded State Cup team with everything you mentioned above, just under the WT name. They said no to that. Balmain were offered the same thing, and they accepted. Since Wests decided not to be involved in that and go it alone (which really should wave any right they believe they have to funding from WT), then the club decided the team may as well go under the Balmain Ryde-Eastwood name which it has done for the last few years. This has been the case for at least the last 6-7 years, and each year the same thing happens.

Wests cannot scream and shout about WT offering them nothing when the offer has been on the table for plenty of years. The only reason that Balmain has received help on their own from WT for the senior level is because Wests have not wanted it. If Wests had taken up the chance, then Balmain would have never had funding just to them, and we would have had a WT State Cup team all along. \

WT will only ever provide funding for one State Cup team (which is their prerogative and frankly is the wisest decision). If Wests continue to reject their proposal, then they will continue to go without help. They can't have their cake and eat it too, and before you go saying that Balmain have, from the beginning their stance has been for a joint second tier team. At the moment they are simply the beneficiaries of the ignorance and stubbornness from the Wests Football Club.

I think most people will accept that the sheer numbers of the Wests Campbelltown juniors will mean they have more in FG, but is their anyone able to count the amount of corporate money which comes from the Wests side of the joint venture?

Well if they haven't got the money to hold onto coaches, players etc themselves, which is what they chose to do, then folding is what will have to happen. Nobody wants to fold a club, but it is just the case in this day and age that it will happen to rugby league teams. Clubs have to look to continue their club however possible, and in my opinion, Wests Mapgies have the perfect opportunity to do this in WT, they just don't seem to want to.

And if Wests have all this money that they, and those arguing for them to have their own team, claim they do, then they should be able to run a competitive team at NSW Cup level. If they can do this, good luck to them, but they shouldn't come crying to WT when they constantly reject any offer put forward to them.
