What I have heard about Potter

Im just glad Robbie has come out and backed Potter, with a bit more conviction in the papers today. Saying he at least deserves a chance with his own players and coaches. Robbie is a pretty emotional guy and i think the whole season has been frustrating for him. Seeing some of these senior guys perform terribly week in week out and yet they seem to be there the next week. There is no doubt he and a couple of others think Pottter has struggled with aspects of his communication and man management with these guys.

Hopefully Robbie is looking at it rationally now and that this was always going to be a write off year. We don't know what really is going on in behind the walls, however i personally hope Mick gets another year and the boys get behind him.

Eddie I could not agree more with your last paragraph about Potter needs to be given another year maybe two to put his own gloss on the side. I also agree that you can't have player power running the club(or inmates running the asylum.) I think your mate that is good mates with a current player should tell him to suck it up and get on with it under Potter or get off. This crap talk and rumours about player power have been doing the rounds for the last couple of seasons and every year they seem to get worse. I believe that some sections of the playing group may not like the truth when it comes to performance and that is why they believe Potter has no man management skills because he may say it how it is.
I also believe that the only people within the club that should be under review are the board, they are a rudderless ship. With there chairman being an old weatherman and magpie supporter(What a joke) that is. What credentials does or did he bring to the table when they were handing out positions on the board If being a passionate magpies or tigers supporter was all that got him across the line that means any of us on here should throw our hat in the ring. He needs to go and take all his agenda driven board( whether they are Balmain or Wests aligned) with him. They need to get fresh faces on the board in my opinion, that are not living in pre 2000 and that have the best interests of the now club the :sign: WESTS TIGERS as their number 1 focus.
The board talk about sacking the 2013 coach, but are that badly managed that they couldn't even cut their losses and payout the 2012 coach. If Potter goes so will my membership and support. What a rabble!!! :crazy :sign: :supporter:

Weatherman Mike is there because he is a Wests Ashfield Leagues debenture holder.
To use Tom Waterhhouse' words … He has skin in the game.
The Ashfield side of the JV can put whoever they like on the WTboard ...... That's the problem I have with this whole structure .... You don't get the best qualified people to run the club at the highest level.

Irrespective it's a mess, it's been poorly handled and should be resolved as soon as possible. The board should bring forward their end of August meeting and make a decision. All this uncertainty, conjecture and speculation only adds fuel to the fire.

If the players want Payten as head coach then appoint him and be done with it. On the proviso if things don't improve, **the players who have undermined Potter should also suffer the same fate.**

Let the cleansing of our club continue. I don't care who the players are, give them the option of leaving if they have clauses in their contracts. If they are being disruptive, give them a first warning in writing and put them back in their place.

Agreed. This is how professional sports organizations run. Like a business. A clean out is a clean out, whatever that entails for the betterment of the club next year, and obviously for years to come given we now need to rebuild. I fear some dark days are ahead but buoyed by the fact that no one is 'safe' under the new management. Create a performance culture and we will have a gf chance in a few years. We missed it in 2010 and 2011 and times have changed. Suck it up people and the rewards will come, but there is short term pain ahead. I also like the fact, as a tigers supporter, that most of Australian sport is facing similar issues. When we win our next gf the cricket team, rugby team, swim team etc will also be world beaters again!

If Potter is being sacked it has to be because he has clashed heavily with the Board

The senior players that we wanted to stay have stayed , and all the gun juniors bar one have been resigned

You wouldn't have been able to do this if you had a coach who had lost the side

Exactly.

This mention he is hard on young players and not so hard on senior players. Have you thought he is trying to mould these younger players because he can have an impact? Many of these underperforming senior players have only had one coach in the NRL and are set in their ways. If they have not responded to Potter, then he can just release them (as he has done).

Always remember where Potter came from. When first playing for Canterbury he completed his apprenticeship as a sparky. He played under Warren Ryan and Brian Smith - coaches known for discipline and a work ethic. I believe he has some valuable lessons for some of the younger players and if these senior players don't like it, there is the door.

Well there are some senior players who are not happy, and now the Balmain side of the board want him gone…

The same Balmain board members whose club can't pay their bills now, real smart, and they want to pay a 3rd coach next year with Wests money.

Don't do the split argument. To get rid of Potter the board must be unanimous. So if Potter is sacked Wests played their part too.

Ok, I just heard this from a friend, who is mates with a tigers senior player, he is also involved in nrl development.

So I'm not sure which one was the source… Don't shoot the messenger, but this is what I have heard:

-it was potters idea to get rid of the support staff. He asked for it and got it. It has been known for weeks.

- the players have only just found out that it was his call, and this has caused the unrest within the club.

To me, I don't see a problem with it, he is the coach and should have who ever he wants around him.

However I guess a few people, don't want the boys club split up!

Just thought i would share with everyone.

Lets allow Potter to start fresh in 2014 without the benji crap, new talent, old players gone and time to be judged fairly.

A debenture is not dissimilar to a bank term deposit …. Except it is a investment in Wests Leagues Ashfield. There are only a certain number of debentures in the club. You can only get one when another director relinquishes his. If you put your money in, it gives you more of a say in how things are done.

Don't insult girls, mate - they're better than that.

So Potter has asked that the cleaners be put through the club even more, with removing dead wood from the coaching staff. Seems like Potter is a strong character and just what WT needs…

i really loved what freddy said that potter told him: "it's the seniors who got them in the position they are in now- they need to be the ones who see through to the end of it and not the juniors."

well said mate- benji's fairytale would be finishing on 199 games.. always the way he's played- never quite there.

Geez, if that's the reason why Potter's position is in review, then fair dinkum! That's disgraceful. I don't care if your name
s Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall or the ball boy. The coach is boss. If you don't like it. Suck it up princesses.

All of you that support Potter seem to have the following view in common

1\. He cleans out under-performers
2\. He has brought superstar U20s players in and also Simona
3\. He has a strong character
4\. He has a contract

If any of you have evidence of facts that he has what it takes for the next step then post them. Things like

1\. Takes a solid number of players from Good to great
2\. Evidence he has an attacking structure / lines / purposeful 5 tackle plans
3\. Evidence of teaching, improving or structuring defence formations / attitudes
4\. Relationship and or communication skills (with players)
5\. A strategic football brain

See the other post this morning on evidence on Potters ability. We love him because he does the one thing Tim just never did - not resign duds. This is not enough.
