What if...

Think of this a a rugby league fan & not a wests tigers supporter. Lets say st George miraculously went on to make the finals & went on to win the grand final, would you be in favour of a top 6 finals? It just doesn't seem right how a team could be placed 12th after 25 rounds, then have all the scores & results favour them, slightly make the top 8 & then be premiers. What would your thoughts be if this happened (not that it can anymore)?

The comp is 26 rounds not 25 so if they somehow managed that then good on em and they deserve it.

You could make the same argument for a 10th placed team if they had a top 6.

A team who makes the 8 has made the points somewhere regardless of where they stand a week out. Top 8 is top 8 and the season is 26 rounds

You both missing his point I think.

To be rewarded for accomplishing something only 50% (12 wins from 24 games) is very very very wrong
It is nothing more than a ratings winner, a boon for sponsors$$$$$…that is all.

Ink, I know what the OP means and no matter where you finish if you're good enough to make the Grand Final and win it then you are deserving premiers.

All teams start round 1 on the same points and there 1st goal of the year is to finish in the Top 8\. Regardless how you get there, you have achieved the goal if you make it.

The second goal of the season is to be competitive in the finals and try your luck at making the grand final. If you make the grand final, you have acheived the goal.

The 3rd goal… Well its pretty simple.

If you make the Top 8, you have the chance & the right to win the premiership!

I will always be of the belief a chance at a premiership by losing HALF your games is wrong
Top 8 is always been about $$$$ & ratings, nothing more

Can you honestly say right now Canberra, Brisbane or us would be deserved premiers this year?
Whats four weeks time going to change?

Best team ALL YEAR deserve to be premiers and rightly imo that happens most of the time

Its a very good point Ink… But realistically having a 'Finals Series' of any sort whether its 4; 5; 6 or 8 will open it up for any team within to win and it is very much about the money.

To rewards the 'Best Team' for the year, the Premiership should be given to the team with the most points at the end of Round 26 like in pommy soccer.

By that way of thinking why have finals at all? Make it first past the post = premiers like they do in the EPL. Boring!

The comp is set up in two stages, the regular season then finals. Every team aims to qualify for the finals by winning as many regular season games as possible. Some do it better than others and rewarded accordingly with home finals & second chances. Others struggle, scrape in and have the disadvantage of having to play elimination games away from home. Bottom line is that finals are stage two of the comp. All you have to do is finish in the top eight and if that means winning 50%, then so be it. Once in the finals you have as much right as any other team to claim the title if you're good enough.

Just because a side was outstanding in stage 1 of a 2 stage mission does not necessarily mean that it is mission accomplished. As in life you have to perform when it really counts. If team 8 is good enough to knock off 4 teams that finished ahead of them in the regular season, playing sudden death football in consecutive weeks, without the benefit of a home final, then they have performed when it really counted and would be deserved premiers.

I dont mean THE single best team of the year should win…..but yeh just brush off someone that finishes a pathetic 50% with a ''so be it''....results of that nature deserve no reward, it why so many fans a blaise and accept mediocrity...they dont care how they get there, they only care about the final scoreboard

Coaches now know you only have to get your act together around late july/august...despite the season beginning in march.
Its a TV product now....and as sheens keeps telling us, we are a franchise...sim,ply a money making entity

50% deserves NO reward, never ever will.

it does help alot if you can win games early in the season, so you don't have to play "catch up' in july etc.
maybe next season wests-tigers can achieve this early on.

once you achieve getting to the finals, anything can happen.
