What is a Wests Tigers player?

The title of this thread highlights the problem.

When asked what the difference was between us and Melbourne Harry Grant said "Madge is more of a one on on/ individual coach, where as Craig sees the big picture."

I don't think it's the individual player that's the problem, but the lack of cohesion, unity and trust in one another to play as a team is.

Defensively we play as individuals. No one trusts the man next to them. We see players rush in and try to stop the play on their own or back off and wait to see what the player next to them will do. Is this the fault of the individual players or them not being Wests Tigery enough? Or is it more to blame on how they've been developed and coached? We're no well oiled machine like Melbourne where everyone knows their role, we're individuals who want to point the finger at the man next us if someone misses a tackle. That's weak culture and that rests with Pascoe and Maguire.

In attack we run one out majority of the time. Luc made a break on the weekend, looked left, looked right, and he was surrounded by Souths jerseys. The closest Tiger was at least 20m away. There's no teamwork there, no support, just one man running alone. This is what disappoints me the most as a fan. I don't know how we're expected to turn up each week if they won't even turn up for each other.

We can talk individuals all you like, you can talk signing a player who will miraculously change our club, but our issues run far deeper than this.

The question shouldn't be about the player, but about the club.

Why are we so consistently mediocre? Why do players sign with us and go backwards? Why do we have such a poor culture? Why do we never play finals football? Why can we not turn it around after multiple roster cleanouts and 5 changes in coaches?

I hope they knock more than just the grandstand down at concord, everything needs a rebuild.

Very good post!
The “underlying Issue” is definitely a club culture problem, as well as an organisational structural issue. This could be caused by cash flow deficiencies or inaccurate application of funding.
I know last year there was a budget increase for training perhaps creating new positions? Pretty sure the floater position is new and maybe Hartigan’s position too?
The creation of these positions would indicate they realise the way forward, so it has to be a funding issue.

They’re not under pressure at training, a place where routine allows them to go to sleep and still look good.
Which leads me to my theory regarding the “blow out scores phenomenon.”
There are more successive penalties leading to a concentrated swing in momentum. Unlike a training routine player movement in a real game is more erratic which combined with the exhaustion, confuses the inexperienced players.
In the early part of Rabbitohs game Liddle tried to break their momentum only for Luciano to give it straight back. Put together a few moments like this coupled with a ruthless ref and well, it’s game over.

Well, they go on socials to put their teammates under the bus just to save their own neck.

And further to your suggestion of "knocking the grand stand down at Concord" @Fraze23...I would imagine all Wests Tigers Players and fans want Us desperately to play out of one ground only.
The easy way for Us to achieve that is to do what the Eels fans did to Cumberland Oval back in the late 80's :smiling_imp: :fire: ...to Leichhardt Oval, and get a lovely new stadium built :+1: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: .
Problem solved.

Same thing we've heard all year.

He says a lot without saying much.

I believe... as others mentioned in the 5 year plan thread, we are currently in the process of this. (Re building)

There are no plans of marquee signings, big name recruits, we aren't getting Hectic Cheese or anyone of that calibre.

Our focus is on pathways and youth. As my bro @gallagher pointed out, our cap is better than it has been in years... and only looking to improve once Packer leaves and hopefully Mbye can leave without impacting us too much.

There's a plan in mind, long view. Our KOE team is performing well and is full of young talent. Our lower grades are also looking good. Madge mentioned in the presser how good all the things at the club are moving in positive directions yet the first grade team does not reflect that. We are essentially getting our house in order, not to be a competitive team NOW but a successful team of the future.

Now, the rough stuff....
We have some really good young forwards with a lot of potential.
Stefano Utoikamanu, Shawn Blore, Luciano Leilua, Luke Garner, Thomas Mikaele, Alex Seyfarth + all the squaddies and lower grade lads.
Some one thought it was a good idea to recruit Tamou to mentor them....
Bad idea. He's not a good player and he isn't inspiring. These has been a failed experiment. Honestly would've been better going for some one like Tyson Frizell. This has been a massive letdown.

We extended Nofo who is one of the worst defensive wingers of all time because we were scared to lose him to Parra? Cmon now. We should've made a play to get a deal to move him on and get Stefano over quicker and throw in some one like Ray Stone or Haze Dunstar or Will Penisini.

We had an offer to trade Talau for Addo Carr and we did not take it.... I don't even know where to start with this one... fail of the highest regard.

To put all clubs on an even playing field, clubs need to stop trading players from other clubs but bring up recruits through their own club systems, in my opinion that should help, but of course that idea will never ever come to fruition:-1:
