It's interesting that both Sheens and Potter seem to have not picked a job in the NRL. Very little talk that Sheens has had any genuine interest and Potter not sure where he has gone. Add before that Lamb and Pearce.

Have we been unlucky, or is the club just a death bed for coaches? I suppose you couldn't blame Potter for wanting away from League the things he had to deal with at our club.

Last i heard he had a Gig. at the Dragons,must have fallen thru. as there is no mention of him anywhere.Sad,as he has the makings of a fine Coach,just unlucky,i don't think any Coach would have done much better with our mob.

I got told he was hard working and well liked, but he just didn't have what it took to be an NRL coach. You'd think he could get an assistant gig somewhere or head back to the ESL if he wanted, maybe he is over it all and is taking another direction in life.

Lol coach killers for sure! Coaching the Wests Tigers seems to have given them some sort of PTSD - it takes a long time to recover :laughing:

On Potter, it's all very well to say he is not up to NRL standard as a coach, but honestly how would we really know? He managed to get this team firing as a unit for the first 6 weeks of last season before injuries struck big time again and all the infighting began. The guy inherited a rabble, was NEVER given any leeway or allowed to choose his own support staff, he had to put up with the most dysfunctional board in the history of Rugby League and work closely with a team captain who didn't really like him.

I think Potter could be a very successful coach in the NRL, under normal circumstances. It's a real slap in the face for him that Taylor has now stepped in and been given the red carpet treatment and free reign, while all Potter ever got was a slap on the back and a "here ya go, see what you can do with this lot, with absolutely no say on operations and your hands tied behind your back". Even Bellamy would struggle to coach well under such circumstances.

I always said the guy after Sheens would be a sacrificial lamb. JT will have it a lot easier than Potter did imo.

I don't think anyone can bag Potter until he has

1/ His own staff

2/ A club with money

3/No white anting assistants

4/ A CEO that would let him make his own calls

Yep it's fair to say Potter was always going to do it tough… But hey the club has learnt a lot from his 2 years at the WT and I'd like to think they righted a lot of things with JTs appointment

Potter had no confidence as a coach from the capt and the assistant coaches for a reason. He couldn't coach. He showed zero emotion and failed to motivate the players. He had an opportunity but failed and ultimately lost the dress intone respect.

Happy and Flip,I couldn't agree more with your comments,nobody could coach an NRL side with the restrictions Potter had placed on him…

No wonder he had no interest after working hard with what he had,and then being critised and back stabbed from within....

Potter was on a hiding to nothing the day he walked into the club and last year he pulled off a few wins that will remain in my memory banks for years, Souths,Manly, Dogs and cowboys. No risk he could coach, but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In saying all of the above, Taylor is the man to lead this club forward. I think he probably has some skills Mick did not have. Anyway time will tell and I hope Potter gets another chance at another NRL club to show his wares

You should be at training Robbie ! Always said the first coach after Sheens was a sacrificial lamb. The treatment of this man was probable the lowest act this club has portrayed , at least some got there medicine and others characters we're exposed for what they are.

Hope his tenure with us didn't kill his NRL prospects. We screwed the pooch big time with Potter. Surprised any coach was brave enough to take on the gig.

Bit of a catch 22 for Potter. The club was a total mess, but you'd have to feel that any coach worth his salt - ie one who might have other options - would spot that a mile off and stay well clear. I mean, imagine going to interview for a management position to be told you can't choose any of your own middle managers or staff, you have to report to two different people who hate each other, all the computers are running Windows 98 and the canteen's run out of pies. You'd run a mile, if you had anywhere else to go. I think we got a dud because only a dud would take the job in the first place.

wish him luck and i agree with flip, he does have the makings of a great coach.. hopefully he gets a gig elsewhere.

I hope the first thing he did when he left our club, would be to take himself and his family on a well deserved holiday, away from the madness of NRL coaching. If you rate Potter as a good coach or not, you can't deny he was all class, with the way he handled himself while he was with us. Best of luck to him and his family.
