What song are you listening to?

In isolation, I've been getting into different music and listening to things I didn't or wouldn't usually like...it's good finding some bands/singers, etc. that aren't well-known but produce quality music

Wow! @trentrunciman Your taste in music is a lot more up to date and modern than mine. I'm still stuck in the 70's and 80's mostly.
Atm I am listening to a live recording from Denver in 1979 of one of the greatest rock n roll bands ever, being Roxy Music performing 'Manifesto'.

Roxy where great Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera are exceptional musos,Ferry always got the accolades but they had talent in the whole band.801 was an offshoot of the band and i always thought that they where better than Roxy but not as popular.

Thanks for that suggestion re 801 @jadtiger.
I'll certainly have a listen to them, as a whole new world of music has opened up since I have been on Spotify.
I gotta say I love drumming and I love music that has the drummer as the prominent member of the band.

63, If you're into drummers, do you follow Vinnie Colaiuta? He is a master at polyrhythms and rhythmically supports and enhances whatever is going on musically. Most of what I know comes from his time with Zappa and I regard him as probably Zappa's best drummer but he has also performed with Sting and many others as well as put his own albums out. Worth a listen if you like good drumming.

Danny Carey from Tool is pretty good at that too. Schism has some like forty odd time signature changes.

4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 10/4, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 8/8, 9/8, 10/8, I think there's even a unconventional one like 13/8 or 15/8.

Speaking of which:

So I'm learning. I'm becoming a bit of a convert since FTB posted Danny Carey the other day. I dont have a lot of time to listen at the moment. My daughter has requisitioned the computer for home schooling but I've managed to do a bit of listening. Good stuff. Thanks

Thanks for that recommendation @NT_Tiger.
My very favourite form of drumming is the 'massed pipes and drums' and the 'Top Secret Drum Corps" at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
I worked with a bloke many years ago that was in a pipe band and he gave me a bit of a demo on the bench top at work one day of what he could do with drum sticks....simply amazing, and I was very envious as I had auditioned to be the drummer for the kids marching around the play ground in Primary School, but came second.
Later on I wanted to be Dave Clark from the Dave Clark Five, so went along to a drumming lesson in Sydney and thought yeh/nah, this is too hard and gave up my ambition of being a drummer.

I listen to some drummers and wonder how their brains can work so fast in multiple time signatures. I'm honestly baffled at what they come out with especially playing polyrhythms at the drop of a hat. My brain often isn't fast enough to perceive it let alone come up with it and play it.;

NT, not sure what style of music you enjoy but as far as drummers go check this clip out. This footage is brilliant, what an artist Danny Carey is!

You've made my day @Fade-To-Black. Thank you so much for putting this post on Our Forum.
I wish I could think of a better descriptive word than brilliant to label what I have just seen.
If you are able to download more stuff like this or even just advise me who to look for, I would really appreciate that.

My pleasure mate, so glad you enjoyed it?. Can't get enough of watching that clip, his playing is other-worldly. Such a shame they haven't released more songs from this camera perspective with this high quality audio, I could watch him play for hours.
The Tool album 'Fear Innoculum' showcases his talent well, I'd recommend that?

Would be much better with footage.

Will have to have a listen to that one Magpies63, thanks for the tip?
Saw this guy live, he sure earnt a cold beer after this one

JC on the kit, so he wasn't only a carpenter?

Oh man....that was simply amazing @Fade-To-Black, so much so that I doubt I will ever see a display of drumming better than that.
I've heard people say when the die they want to go 'down' there cause all their mates are there. Bugger that....I'm gonna be a good boy for the rest of my life so I go 'up' there, so I can watch JC on the drums forever.

I'm a metal head and I found myself listening to Slim Dusty the other day...

Did you enjoy Slim @TillLindemann?.... He's one of my favorites.
There's nothing more Aussie the Slim Dusty, and apparently such a down to earth and decent Man.
I believe his wife wrote most of his songs.

The Beatles set the world on fire with their bright happy songs @mike .
Even my Mum liked them which was amazing, as she reckoned modern music was mostly rubbish. She did like Cilla Black as well though.

Thought this was appropriate with the NRL having to make their first tough decision since Toddy left.
