One of the great rock tracks.

Paul Kossoff was another great musician who died far to young because of a drug lifestyle.

Hello ..is there anybody in there...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8fFVOoqepc

Who would have have thought that the worlds most inspiring guitar solo would have come from licking toads

LSD= Licking Swamp Dwellers.
That solo would definitely be in the top 3 of all time IMO. A few years ago went and saw Roger Waters perform "The Wall" album in its entirety, complete with all the movies' imagery projected onto a wall that was gradually built on stage throughout the performance. When it came time for the solo for Comfortably Numb the amps were noticeably turned up massively....the sound just left you slack-jawed, it was incredible.

Ive been lucky enough to see Dave Gilmour play it.

That would've been great. I haven't really listened to any Floyd albums after Momentary Lapse Of Reason. What tour did you see?

I saw the Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour (Delicate Sound of Thunder). One of the best shows Ive seen

Not seeing Gilmour perform live is one of my greatest regrets in regards to music along with not seeing Hendrix or the Who.

I saw the who, but not until 2009, I still loved it though.

Just an amazing song!

For sure. Mark Knopfler would be in amongst the greatest guitarists of his time IMO.

Of anytime, such a unique style and sound, I have heard songs for the 1st time, that I didn't know were his, and it is just unmistakable that it is him on guitar.

A Hard Days Night - The Beatles (live in Australia I think)

Note the finger positions on John’s guitar for one of the most famous chords in history. This is rare video/picture evidence of them and it has been hotly debated over the years just what notes were actually played. George Martin wanted a strong cord to open the song. John just hit a chord and that was it. Even George Martin never knew what notes he used.

I was just discussing this with a few people at work yesterday, the guy who Knopfler, Clapton and most of the other heavy weights suggest was the best guitarist of all time was Prince. Clapton said he couldn't even play a lot of Prince's songs and couldn't get his head around the advanced musical theory used to write them. He isn't one that most people automatically think of. Hendrix was obviously the most influential guitarist ever but a quick google of a plethora of 11 year old kids absolutely shredding his songs is proof enough for me that he wouldn't rank against modern guitarists, i find his music very sloppy and just generally not enjoyable to listen too personally.

Mate Prince was an outstanding guitarist, possibly the most underrated guitarists of all time. I think he is overlooked because his sound is not classic rock.

Jimi's style was meant to be sloppy though I'd say.....psychedelic stuff is usually long, drawn out meanderings for people to get off-chops to. Some of his music is great but a lot of it is very ho-hum I agree. Clapton is in the same boat.
Haven't heard any of Prince's guitar work TBH, just the look of him was enough for me to keep his music at arm's length.
The like or dislike of a guitarist's style is so subjective it is impossible to get a gauge on who is great or ordinary IMO. The guitar is the most magical musical instrument of them all, would be great to turn back time and learn it from a young age.
