@Harvey said:Stories around that there is a clause in the coaches contract that will allow him to be punted mid season if the tigers are not winning. I am not convinced that Taylor is the answer, but would look at the overall performance (including development and improvement of the younger players before getting rid of him. There has been a lot of talk about Ivan Cleary waiting in the wings, but I am not convinced that he would be any better (though may be more attractive to players the tigers are chasing). I think that there are other options out there that should be considered:
- David Furner
- Justin Morgan
- Walker Brothers
- Garth Brennan
Who else is available? Who is the best option?
I agree that it's the whole performance that needs consideration before any move to punt a coach, as there can be many mitigating circumstances that can affect results e.g. injuries, form of key players, bad luck etc. Surely the Tigers need stability now more than ever, mind you if Bellamy , Hasler or Bennett was up for grabs and, more importantly, interested then I'd be all for it. But successful coaches of that calibre tend to look for work where they know they'll have a reasonable chance of further success and where there'll be little or no financial constraints. Can't blame them for that either. The Tigers have had 3 coaches in the past 4 years, if JT was punted we'd be looking at 4 in less than 5 years. Considering all the upheaval at board level and the other associated problems it's arguably been the toughest job in the comp' . If there are indeed KPIs it'd be interesting to know what they are. Personally I'd be satisfied if the team improves the for and against differential, think that'd show that they're moving forward and would in all likelihood improve the results as well.
