What to do if KPI's are not reached

Stories around that there is a clause in the coaches contract that will allow him to be punted mid season if the tigers are not winning. I am not convinced that Taylor is the answer, but would look at the overall performance (including development and improvement of the younger players before getting rid of him. There has been a lot of talk about Ivan Cleary waiting in the wings, but I am not convinced that he would be any better (though may be more attractive to players the tigers are chasing). I think that there are other options out there that should be considered:
- David Furner
- Justin Morgan
- Walker Brothers
- Garth Brennan
Who else is available? Who is the best option?

I agree that it's the whole performance that needs consideration before any move to punt a coach, as there can be many mitigating circumstances that can affect results e.g. injuries, form of key players, bad luck etc. Surely the Tigers need stability now more than ever, mind you if Bellamy , Hasler or Bennett was up for grabs and, more importantly, interested then I'd be all for it. But successful coaches of that calibre tend to look for work where they know they'll have a reasonable chance of further success and where there'll be little or no financial constraints. Can't blame them for that either. The Tigers have had 3 coaches in the past 4 years, if JT was punted we'd be looking at 4 in less than 5 years. Considering all the upheaval at board level and the other associated problems it's arguably been the toughest job in the comp' . If there are indeed KPIs it'd be interesting to know what they are. Personally I'd be satisfied if the team improves the for and against differential, think that'd show that they're moving forward and would in all likelihood improve the results as well.

People are really chomping at the bit to see Taylor get punted.
What if in 2016 we make the 8 and give him an contract extension?

Taylor has done well considering the circumstances. Recruited well with limited funds now let him run the season and judge him on 2016\. 2015 was always going to be a washout regardless who was coach.

I really like this post! Why is there an opinion that there is an awesome coach out there with some magical ability to put old heads on young shoulders? Truth is that any coach will struggle to rebuild this club, and a successful first grade coach us not necessarily going to be suitable at rebuilding with the current level our players are at.

Other than the poor tactics early last season and the Farah circus, I can't see too much JT has done wrong. Our defensive improvement was noticeable, he moved players on that didn't want to be here or that were surplus to our needs, and he recruited depth.

Wouldn't it be nice if he could just do his job and give it his best shot, without constantly being at risk of having Brutus stab him in the back.

Agree 100%. I think all facets of a sporting organisation, administration, players, fans, coaches and other staff need to believe in the plans and methods of those in charge for it to succeed. If there is discord then the task becomes even greater. Not saying that success is not possible, just that any problems that might surface during the undertaking of the plan can become greater than it needs to be if given greater focus because of doubts that already exist. Unfortunately at the Tigers the lack of success over the last 15 years has probably made it very difficult for fans, in particular, to believe in a long term plan. Guess it's a bit of a catch 22.

The era of the big 3 in Melborune is coming to an end.

I say talk to Harry, get him to sign an open cheque and let Bellamy fill in the blanks .

The possibility of coaching the potential next big 4 (cherrington, moses, brooks, teddy) and proving himself as the greatest coach of all time could persuade him to head north to Concord. Not to mention the open cheque.

That would be a match made in heaven.

If only…

Exactly… We need a Head Coach who can run the show, not a coach managed by players and administrators!

I reckon Bellamy will retire as soon as his commitments to the Storm and the big three are over

Agree. Good sensible post! Especially, that coaches who have had success (sometimes through luck) "tend to look for work where they know they'll have a reasonable chance of further success".

That's the logical process but a couple of million dollars and the potential to solidify his legendary coaching status could persuade him to continue his coaching career at a new club.

Harry has no issues building us a new kitchen, how about he sells a few apartments and invests in a coach who could build a powerhouse club.

Its hilarious when people bring up Harry T as our saviour.
He has had years to fix the Balmain problems and never stepped in.
People will say "oh but he sponsors us every year" without realizing that is all tax deductable and doesnt cost him a penny.
The guy is rich for a reason. He is as tight.

Forget Harry. He is in his 80's and if he isnt going to enjoy his money now, he never will.
