What we are short of

It was strange yesterday that our captain didn’t really involve himself. Even though we didn’t have field position he pretty much just stayed out of play for it seemed all game. Was he carrying an injury maybe??

I don’t know about bigger with Mbye….. but the opposition looked like they come down from the beanstalk 🤪

We did not lock up the ball when defending. Warriors offloaded at will. Fatigue set in. Result predictable.

Honestly,

Our issues are endless. There are hardly any positions that I think we are killing.

1) Fullback - Not a strong ball runner
2) Wingers - Wingers are too small and not quick enough
3) Centres - Centres are solid, but neither are natural centres. No pace.
4) 5/8 - Poor kicking game, don't run much, not great organiser
5) Halfback - Great player, kicking game still weak.
6) Props - Don't get us going forward.
7) 2nd Row/Lock - All workhorses, but no impact from any of them besides Matterson.

Biggest issues for the time being are 2 , 6 and 7.

I think the tigers will continue to struggle against teams like the warriors who have a big pack, big and fast wingers,we have yet again gone into another season short on forwards,Packer,Matulino,Twal and young Mikaele if he can last the season. If Musgrove was eligible then we only just had enough, relying on eisenhuth,Aloiai etc to play front row and make big metres isnt good enough. Then to add to that the lack in size and speed of nofoaluma, thompson and its hard to compete.

We lost yesterday mainly because we had 3 players in a tackle multiple times and still couldn't stop an offload which lead to multiple tries out wide because our middle defence structure was so condensed.

But sure lets blame the edges for that. :see_no_evil:

Also blaming our forwards for not making metres in the first half is ridiculous when we have around 30% of the ball due to poor mistakes. :see_no_evil:

I wouldn’t being examining too deeply why we lost. It was a trial and we were in second gear. Pretty much what you would expect from their first hit out in 6 months.

That’s trials for you. I remember being at a trial at Cambo in 2011\. We looked dreadful and get pumped. We finished that year in the top 4.

For our first game we did way to much defending in the first half. To many mistakes and Warriors were playing well.

Combinations are going to take a while to settle in….. especially on the edges. So that’s what we should be working on for the next 13 days I suppose.

Yeah but the season before we were one game from a GF , had the same coach and basically the same squad

That is a big difference , last year we had a different coach , spine who haven't played together assuming Reynolds is the 6 and haven't made the 8 for 7 seasons

Confidence wise with Cleary abandoning them , the CEO out of action , and playing a side we face in 2 games time it didn't help at all

And the manner we lost was very concerning , we got out muscled and out enthused ….game 1 of the season I expect people to be bouncing off the walls

With the injuries and the players we lost , a fair few positions are up for grabs

Did anyone stand up and say I want that spot ....not really

Sigh ….. please don’t remind me of that performance .... I’m curled up in a corner trying to forget.
I’m sure that the coaching staff and players did not have a happy crossing.

It’s funny thought ..... I don’t have the stats but ...... how many times does a coach take a team to a pre game camp and ends up with similar result? Got a feeling you will find more on a side of “Often”.

I honestly think most of problems revolve around our pack. It seems like we've always been a team that gets out muscled through the middle and we rarely dominate teams through shear size and power. We rely heavily on pulling Hail Mary plays in the backs rather than making yards and and grinding away at the opposition. I'd love to see a tigers team be feared by other teams. I think most teams look forward to playing us.
