What would Potter be thinking now ??

oh come on, we've had a knockabout game with 2 of our players involved & a trial which included probably 0 of our first up 17.
Surely you can tell exactly how our season is going to go by now. You should just about be able to predict our total season for and against at this stage!

Nobody is defending it, or denying it.

The issue is when people place too much stock in the first game of the year and work themselves into a tizzy by saying "nothings changed" or "Potter hasn't made any difference" etc.

I agree, it is absolutely a nothing game to anyone other than the Indigenous team. Not too many players would be busting their gut for that game :deadhorse:

Benji was very poor but I would only be concerned about that if he plays that badly when the real footy starts in round 1 at Newy…until then it ain't no big deal

What last night showed was, Benji's pace is no longer a weapon. So now really all he has is some trick passes, he is not a great defender and isnt a great organizer. Not trying to put him down on one exhibition match but really nothing much has changed in the last few years except him getting slower

True that, but I would be pretty certain that he would be able to find a bit more pace than what he showed tonight if it was a semi-final or any other game of more importance than basically an Aboriginal benefit match.
I would also think that most 5/8's in the NRL would get rounded up by a winger fairly quickly. Hopefully Benj works on his evasive skills a bit this season, they seem to have nearly evaporated.

from lasts night game i can tell you how barba & the bulldogs will go this year

Fellas Benji is a genius ..yes he has lost some pace but in reality he doesn,t need it…..it,s what Benji puts in the minds of the opposition so that the real speedsters crash over the line .Point in Question the trys scored by Koro off the back of Benji. This IMO is a defining season for Marshall he has a new coach a new wife and life of the park as with all of us the maturing process of life changes so lets all hope Benji does settle down and become the player I really hope he can be. And to the question Coach Potter is rubbing that magic wand to conjure up a premiership in the not to distant future and feels blessed that he is coaching the best club in the league.

Both Benji and Farah suffer from inconsistency and its something Potter will be working on. To expect a change in the first trial of the year is a bit rich.

Lets give Potter a go & show our backing as supporters should. I think the Tigers will show all of the negative thinkers. Think positive until you have something negative happen. Then still look for the good parts of the situation. !!!!!!

no one was expecting benji to create 6 tries in the game and find space every kick.
benji's kicking was poor as it always has been, first kick he kicked was straight into another player. 2nd time he touched the ball he dropped it 5m from the tryline… it's his errors that needed improving which havent improved.
this was the first game of the season and if people get frustrated by this, they have every right to.

Feel like this is going around in circles, frustration is one thing….but some on this forum have essentially written him off as a player and by extension, our 2013 season.

That sounds too logical

EASY TIGER WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP, IF BENJI AND FARAH BROKE THER ARMS, WOULD U STILL BE SAYING THAT. IF THE IRISH SAID THEY WANTED A GAME WOULD WE GIVE THEM ONE, OR THE FRENCH, WE PANDER TO THE INDIGENOUS, AND THATS ALL ITS ABOUT. HOW COME ALL THE ELITE PLAYERS WINGE ABOUT TO MUCH FOOTY BUT BECAUSE ITS THE INDIGENOUS , THEY HAVE TO PLAY , BY THE WAY HOW MANY PULLED OUT, IF IT HAD BEEN A GRAND FINAL THEY ALL WOULD HAVE PLAYED. ITS A NOTHING GAME.

we pander to the indigenous? do we?would love to know in what way? how many indigenous players pulled out of the match? i know gallen, slater, watmough, pulled out for allstars slater, pulled out then played a trial for melb so it doesnt mean jack to him but hes not indigenous thats what im saying it may not mean anything to the Nrl allstars but it means everything to the Indigenous whats the Irish & french got to to with the Indigenous? Aboriginals are our people there from Australia, show some respect and stop shouting. If youre worried about our players getting injured then we should scrap all the trials then.

I'd say Potter needs to be thinking, "I'm glad I've got Miller and Anasta to handle the majority of the kicking game!"

That is, apart from the odd grubber which Robbie and Benji do quite well.

That, and how to get Benji to play best with the ball in hand. He has rarely had broken defensive lines in front of him for the past year and let's face it, that is when he is at his destructive best! So as others have said he needs to play more direct and more disciplined against a set line, which is what he is up against most of the time.

As for how they played last night, whatever. Moot point.

And Happy, I'm equally as sick and tired of people wanting to sack Benji. Most will never be able to comprehend what he has done for the team and club, and no doubt what he continues to do. In spite of Sheens wasting some of his best years he will still have plenty left in him, please move on people!

His day to move on will come, but it's not here yet.

Barra I agree with you about the things the Benji HAS done for the club in the past

But the last 18 mths he HASN"T done a lot for the club and for a bloke to be using as much of the salary cap as he is to be not performing you can't sit back and dream about how good he was

If he doesn't get back to somewhere near his best in 2013 , the club has to look at other options I'm sorry

In this day and age you can't carry people especially when there are salary caps involved

As i said earlier , I really hope Benji steps up and makes me swallow my words until I choke on them

But I won't hold my breath waiting either

This isnt even a Wests Tigers trial, while neither played fantastic i will wait & see how they go after the first round, no reason to panic yet.

And then after the trials it will be wait til the season proper we'll be fine ,and then it will be Round 8 and it will "Don't worry we have still have 16 games left" and all the sudden it will be "if we win our last three with a positive for and against of 80 we will scrap into the 8

Attitude is attitude , and Benji's attitude didn't look like it had changed

Look at many of the others who played , they put in , or because it Benji he lives by a different set of rules and we need to judge him differently because he wears a Tigers jersey

Rugby league is a team game. Could you name any player in Benji's team who did play well?

very good post Happy. So true. It was really last Saturday night just another game of football that is becoming a tradition. It is of yawning reality that Thurston, Barba & company went into this game with a alternative frame of mind. These types of players are far & few & cost big money. Their attitudes are unwavering.
