What's happened to jamaal?

Idris should of started season in ISP for game fitness crazy to push him early as this was always going to cause over exposure and the risk of injury which looks like has happened.

JT just pick him and let him get game time and get used to running of players, otherwise what a waste of a signing. but then this is JT the super coach were are talking about. surprised we have not seen milone in 1st grade yet, but then its early days.

Idris is injured, that's why he isn't picked, the right decision by the coach don't you think?…or do you want an injured player to go out and play, gee that's smart..player well being comes first ....

Wasnt there talk of him picking up an injury late in the off season. If so, playing injured might explain his lacklustre performance to start the season.

Give him time to heal and then lets see how he goes.

I think people are being wat too harsh on his performance in the 1st 2 games. He is a big guy and needs a few matches to get his fitness going especially given the foot injury he got in the last week of training has hampered him.

Also with Chee-Kam moving to the backrow when he comes on we aren't carrying a centre but effectviely just a backrower which we would have anyway

In saying that he has played 84 minutes so roughly a full game
He has had 18 runs for 131 meters which is great for a centre in 1 game of footy so is working hard in attack plus 2 tackle breaks and 1 offload'
Made 3 errors which can be expected off a long lay off and with a new team
Made 16 tackles , Missed 2 (Chee-Kam has missed 6 in his 2 games)

Also his efforts have been good getting back onside and backing up - yes he lacks a little pace but i think the foot injury has effected that which is prob why he is off this weekend to get it fixed up

Totally agree boon, Idris has done alright. Defensively he's tactically sound, he lacks a yard of pace but since the Cowboys trial I haven't seen him let anyone get on his outside. He's obviously also a huge frame so they can't run backrowers down his channel at will, he shortens them up fairly well - Souths tried and he felled Burgess one time in a beauty, Panthers never even tried, they mostly attached Brooks with ball movement.

I don't know however if I'm sold on the backline reshuffle that is required when Idris comes on. It seems to disrupt the team's rhythm, shuffling MCK to backrow.

Idris is a handful in his hitups, they are slow but no slower than any of the other forwards. At the line we've not used him properly at all, that part of the game plan is still to be developed - half of it was one or two dropsies from Jamal, the other is Luke Brooks who dishes fairly ordinary service (just ask Chris Lawrence).

Read your post,I didn't see the words when fit mentioned at all…I don't need to grow up,and I certainly don't call people stupid, wether I know them or not...

Early days

Yeah I'm with you Spartan

Backs up my theory some players needed far more time in the trials and 9's

His defence was good v Souths , and his hit ups had venom v Penrith

Give him at least a month , missing basically two years of footy isn't easy , getting your timing back , match fitness , learning a new club takes time

I reckon many will change their tunes by season's end

i personally expected a little too much maybe but in my view he has done very little thus far.
having said this, though, i think the emphasis in my case is on the expectation.

once his foot is "heeled" (booya!) hopefully he will make big gains (im on fire…) and given a bit of patience will tear it up in due time.

in any case, i still believe he has been a no risk signing. i think he is well worth a bit of perseverance and not costing the club much in any aspect.

Passing judgement after two games is ridiculous. Sometimes I think forum members want to complain for the sake of it.

What's ridiculous is he is playing first grade.
He should have got back into the game through some lower grade games for match fitness.
He isn't ready.

I have a lot of high hopes for jamal. But it made me laugh when we would take chee Kam and put him in the pack rotation when idris is the bigger guy who's runs resembled a forward hitting the ball up, sat in the centres.

Chee Kam has been playing in the second row for most of his career, he knows what he's doing there. We did not sign Jamal on a one year contract to suddenly turn him into a second rower, he's a centre or he's a big old waste of money…

Because we have a plethora of centre options.

We should have promoted someone from reserves before Jamal. At least they are match and trained in the last 2 years. He isn't ready for NRL but as you said, we took a gamble because of the lack of centre options.

JT rushed him in and it was a mistake. Our bench was in tatters to cover him and the hooker. We can't afford to do that for one more game.

I am hoping he comes good, but would bring him back via ISP playing at least 60mins a game. When he can do that easy he can come back to first grade

Maguire definitely got the award for the brain fade of the year with his handling of Inglis in Round 1.
But Taylor should get the next award for trying to make Idris into a first grader , (and waste a bench position, ). about 12months before he is ready

Early days with him , I also think he got injured very early in last weeks game

Anyone would get injured if they haven't played in 2 years and unfit. His injury is a blessing in disguise.

Chee Kam is certainly a very versatile player. I think he is a better option at the moment in the centres and can play eighty minutes there.

Taking into consideration Jamals game time and his current speed he would work in the pack rotation. He could carry his own in defence and could possibly interchange with Lawrence. Who is an ex centre and defends inside Brooks. A side that Jamal is used too. He is a big body and a decent defender.
