Do we take the Aussie Cricket Team tact and ask the Squad to write a letter and express how they can improve the team? And hope 7 players don't do their homework and get dropped! Put the squad on a shovel for a week working for Leichhardt Council and give them a taste how the average bloke earns a quid?
There is no way to sugar coat last night, sure we only had 30 odd percent of the pill…but we look so lost? Hard to fathom when from all reports Coach Potter gave them a solid pre-season work-out. As in the Rooster's Trial game, no one looked certain where they should be in defence or who is taking the next hit-up.
Josh MILLER watch him in the U/20's and he guides and directs them whole team so well, everytime he has been given the opportunity in 1st Grade,,You just wouldn't know he was out there. WHY? Is it Benji's fault?
It's hard to get a grasp on where to go? Plenty of questions,,,let's hope Coach Potter has a few answers!!Does Coach POTTER already look to the future??? Or give the Squad more time???
Was impressed with JACK BUCHHAN for a 20 year old front-rower ran hard and direct. Was far from impressed with Adam BLAIR,,,did anyone else see the team get off the Team Bus on FOX, Robbie Farah was being interviewed ALL the players walked behind with game faces on and ADAM BLAIR just had to pull a STUPID FACE in the background as he walked by...For a player on a big quid and a senior player, TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL and NOT A LEADER. Already looking forward to NEXT GAME!!

Over the last two seasons success is found with bodies in motion and halves straightening the play.

I can forgive bodies in motion as the game went on because of tiredness.

However this Benji drifting across the field crap running everyone out of room has to stop or he needs to go away

I am with ya Smeg! It's like our centers have lost interest, getting no decent ball? Benji "CAN" do so many great things, he just seems to be TOTALLY CONFUSED!! Reading on a few post, how some are liking Adam BLAIR's game last night,,,having real trouble to see what he brings to the team?Maybe my vision is blurred from knowing he is on great coin! And I also read, some are putting the boot into Liam FULTON's game,,He was putting hits on all night!!!
Andrew,,on last night's performance, UTAI, MOLTZEN, BLAIR, and EVEN BENJI could forget to do the Aussie Cricket Team Homework and have a REST! I would be so interested to see how MILLER played at 1/2 back, WITHOUT Benji in the team! Even taking into consideration the big jump from U/20's to 1st Grade. MILLER ran the show so SMOOTHLY in the U/20's, with direction, quick backline ball, brilliant kicking game, kicks goals. Well documented how we struggle to find a 1/2 back…For me I would be LOOKING AT MARSHALL!!

I agree he is pathetic, i have a feeling when early last year he got run down a few times, it killed his ego which his confidence relies on'

I don't know if Potter is the type of coach who thinks outside the square (current indications are that he doesn't) but if I could I would suggest to him the following;

Drop Moltzen and place Benji at fullback. This would allow him all the room he needs to run in the way most suited to him. There would be no crab sideways running and he could certainly use his sidestap. Take Anasta away from his unsuitable position in the forwards and place him at five eigth where he can use his organisational and tackling skills to best advantage. The service from half (Miller) to five eigth and to the centres would be considerably sped up. It is a bold move which is line with the truism "fortune favours the brave".

How many try assists and line break assists do you think he will make from fullback - and that's all he really had going for him last year.
I thought he put in defensively last night , which was good to see.
I've often wondered how he'd go at the back but don't think ,with the rest of the team in turmoil, that now's the time to try it.

Anasta is a bit slow these days for the halves, too easy to shut down IMO.The one thing i'm sure of is you can't spend the season shuffling players around different positions hoping for a magical outcome..Smith tried Anasta all over the park including fullback ,if he is to hold a top 13 spot its where he is now,IMO,if that doesn't work Potter will just have to replace him which will probaly end his career.

When you move a player to a position you have to look at how a player will handle a position both in attack and defence

If you move Benji to fullback there are so many things he has to contend with

Positional play
Organizing the defence
handling kick returns
Bombs
Grubbers
being the last man in defence (isn't as easy as it sounds)
really putting yourself on the line without care or thought

In at least 5 of those areas Benji would fail . To handle bombs and grubbers you have be prepared to put yourself on the line ,Benji won't do that ,his primary thought many times I reckon is "SHOULDER" (and I understand that , mentally it would destroy him to do his shoulder again)
Positional play takes years to learn ,learning how different oppositions think in different situations

Is Benji strong enough to organize the defence , fullbacks need to lay down the law at times Maybe

Would you want Benji as the last man in defence with say Manu Vatavei or Uate bearing down on him at full speed and then using a Polynesian side step Pass

Handling kick returns Ok he could do some damage if he used his footwork , but with a straight line defence it is basically useless And when was the last time we saw Benji use his speed and or footwork I can imagine seeing Benji getting picked up and driven backwards

Another point ,being a fullback in the NRL every decision you make needs to be instinctive and if it isn't you are in big strife

Lastly we have James Tedesco he fills every one of the above points and more Why would we turn a position we have strength in and turn it into a weakness ??

Very well thought out Newtown.
Just wish Tommy won a premiership.
