Luke Brooks and Benji Marshall, looks a whole lot better than any of those combinations…. Only dreamin'.

esp if they play like they did v dragons

Exactly, the team played better than it had all season.

I wouldn,t right Moltzen off just yet .. not a fan but all in all will be interesting under a new coaching structure and a full off season could be a surprise.

agreed, i think he'll be that one who we write off that proves us wrong.

there's usually a few every year like Buchanan and Ava for 2013\. Also Teddy, people were bagging him pretty hard midway through the year when we were struggling pretty badly.

Way left field, but I have been pondering Fulton at 5/8\. Was a 5/8 at junior level, has filled in well there before and is Mr reliable.

If Sirro's moved to 2nd row, Fulton at 6 keeps some size about the team. From what i've seen he's only downfall would be lack of speed, but i wouldn't think he'd be any slower than Sirro or Anasta. I know I'd have him at 6 over Anasta.

Fulton isn't a play maker. He is super reliable and a fantastic footballer, but there are much better options for 5-8th in 2014.

personally long term i think moltzen will end up in the halves he is still only young 26 next season and at the back end of the year could end up as the 6 as he can run good lines kick long and has a good pass on him

errr….long term? or do you mean 2014, cause i think we are all expecting moses to come off the bench in the back half of this season and then perhaps a permanent spot at 6 from then with brooks if he can handle FG.

But i agree that I think Moltz will surprise us at 6\. His weakest points have been his high ball and defence, neither of which is essential at 6 as seen in benji and albert kelly.

i don't mind Moltzen (maybe because at fullback he was safe and boring like i was?!!).

i wouldn't write off the possibility that he could become a really good 5/8th for the tiges. you never know…

Defence is pretty key at 5/8th, stuff up there and the ball is outside you in a heartbeat. Can't remember too much of Moltzen's defensive prowess, mainly just remember him as very nervy fullback (under the high ball mainly). But 5/8 these days need to be solid defenders (Maloney isn't too flash but he had an NRL All-Star team assembled around him) Thanks Uncle Nick.

Moltzen is such a confidence player, if he is on he will kill it at 6 in attack (not sure he has the ball skills required though), he is pretty adept at backing up through the middle of the park. Braith or Sirro would probably be the best option at 6 though, they are a bit bigger in body size and can defend better. The defensive side of the game is what we are deficient in at the moment moreso than in attack. Would be inclined to throw a bloke in there at the start of next season who is a bit more defence orientated. If we have the upper hand in a match, then throw Moltzen in there to cause a stir around the ruck, but with his knee problems hopefully he has kept his acceleration.

If we had a really strong pack where defense was not an issue I would probably have gone with Moltzen at 5/8 purely for his running game, which is very good.

I just don't think Moltzen and Brooks can hold up defensively, especially when we are struggling in this area already

For me, I hope Austin is up for the gig. Runs hard like a second rower, would ask questions of the line, commands respect from the defences which should buy space for those outside him if he can get a pass away at the line. He should also tighten up the defence.

I see this year as a platform building year, trying to find a consistent base line to build off in the future… I think a basic guy like Austin could do us the world of good when looking to find consistancy, again if he is up for it.

We have a solid enough squad next season, and consistent solid football should see us win more games than we lose, and thats all Im really looking for next year from the team. Find that foundation and football philosophy that we can later inject a live wire like Moses into.

What will likely happen with Moses is Austin is performing well at 6? The obvious long term option is for Austin to be moved into the 2nd row and Moses come into the team and play 6\. But is a hard situation if Austin is doing a good job and doing the stuff you say, which I have no doubt he can do.

i have my doubts about austin.

in my opinion, at best he will do an okay job. but will be the weakest link in our spine. i simply cannot see a mediocre reserve grader stuck behind ordinary penrith players, excelling in such a manner that there is much of a dilemma of what to do when moses is ready for FG.

obviously you can bring up people like simona, but even they were doing very well in NSW Cup. They simply didn't slip back after being given a lengthy FG berth of several weeks.

Then that's a good headache to have. The more competition we have for spots the more we'll see the best brought out in players. Tedesco definitely fought his way to the #1 jersey this year and now the pressure is on Moltzen to find his spot in the squad somewhere. If Austin is working well at 6 then Moses will need to work his backside off in the lower grades to get a crack in firsts.
