Interesting questions brought up on the Footy Show last night

Narrowing the list down would be incredibly hard

I'll have a shot at narrowing it down to a last ten players

Meninga
Johns
Coote
Sterling
McCarthy
Langer
Lockyer
Fittler
Lazarus
Provan

If narrowing it down to a last 3
Meninga
Johns
Provan

Tough choices Who would your final ten be ??

Can't be Lockyer happy - you have to be retired for 5 years I think.
Anthony Mundine rang RLW and nominated himself though.

CK I thought they spoke about it last night and said they didn't think that was the case Middleton and Hadley are both voting

i don't think Lockyer would make the final 3 anyway

Surprised Mundine didn't add SBW to the list , and then when didn't get nominated he'd say that the voting process was racist

There is a big push to change the criteria, so it is hard to fathom how wide they are going to look. If they are going to move in the direction of 'service to the game' in general, Provan is the number 1 pick. But as Norm is well respected by all, his wishes to be over-looked will be granted. Add another who's 'service to the game' is also highly creditable is Glen Lazarus?!

With this being the case, I would select the following as the Top 3 Candidates:

Bob McCarthy
Mal Meninga
Brad Fittler

I personaly think they should stick with the original formula of service to the Australian Jumper. With this being the case, the next selection should be Mal Meninga!

In regards to Lockyer I read last week he couldn't be included - unless the paper was wrong

Keith Barnes - now there is a great player , great administrator and true gentleman

I don't think administration ability comes into consideration.

Can someone be named an immortal posthumous? What about Steve Rogers?

Coote or Meninga. Coote was always of more value to Souths, NSW and Australia, than McCarthy. The latter had a low work rate and a habit of playing quite wide. Good player mind, but never likely to be a legend let alone an immortal. Watching people get lathered up about Johns is amusing, clearly they think that RL began in 1997\. Johns has a few problems, which appear to have been with him for quite some time. Dont see him attaining immortal status anytime soon

Most definitely Gary Players can be niminated posthumously Not sure about Steve Rodgers though , as soon as Meninga broke on the scene he dominated Rodgers

I think it should be Keith Holman

No one's achieved what he has in the game

Wanted to say Yappy too Ink, he's covered every base you possibly could in the game.

If it's only on playing ability and it came down to him and Johns they would have to go for Johns.
He was chosen above Holman as halfback of the century - would have to have the edge.

Andrew Johns for me. Mal was big but personally I think he was very good rather than great. Skills wise I think he is a long way behind most of the other names on that list. Johns on the other hand is the best player I've seen with my own eyes.

Got to be Provan. 10 premierships - 4 as captain coach? Amazing career.

Johns could do everything but in my mind he has three things hanging over his head.
1) The obvious one of the party drugs throughout his playing career
2) The steroids scandal at newy years ago that many still doubt he wasnt involved in.
3) Never that dominant at International level.

For mine it is Provan, Mal or Lazo
