Why did Tim re-sign?

the panthers financial issues are well documented and sheens would have a better inside knowledge of the real story and from what ive heard it is actually much worse. forget retirement packages, how could any team let alone a coach perform under deep financial problems?

This is a very interesting question…..

I think realisitically given his age this is going to be Sheen's last contract. It would have been easy for him to take the cash and sail of to Port Macquarie/Sunshine Coast/South Coast (wherever) and enjoy his retirement. The fact is that the game has been good to him - very good to him. While cash is an important issue for anybody there were probably other factor as well.

(like it or not) he is considered in the elite band of coaches (GIbson, Fulton, Bennett etc) being a multi-premiership winning coach. Call it ego or call strength of belief but I think he believes he can win another premiership in the next four years. **I believe he would like to retire with a record of 5 premierships which would rank him in the top 3 of all time. He may have considered the Panthers as not having the appropriate cattle to achieve this objective.**
I see Tim as being an incredibly loyal person as evidenced through his often questionable selection policies and the Longmuir inicident. This loyalty extends to his players, his coaching and the club. If he thought that there was some doubt over who was going to take the helm and the effect this may have on these individual groups, i believe this would've been a serious consideration. When Tim decides to go, he will want to make sure the players and his staff are looked after and will want some say in the direction the club takes in regards to his successor.

Finally, there is the attraction of knowing the club. He enjoys a degree of autonomy that might not be available at another club. He obviously has a good working relationship with Humphreys and the clubs most senior sponsor. Remember, when he came here he took on a rabble and has sorted some of the politics etc to a point where he can focus largely on the team and not other distractions that may have been issues.

IHad a team like St.George offered 2 million, I wouldn't have been as sure as to the outcome

Another very good post coopy, please - more of it.

When Bennet signed with the Knights it was bandied around he did it for the challenge, 3 comps with 3 teams, people questioned "Why doesnt he go to Souths or Cronulla and win a comp" if a challenge is what he wanted?
Realism is also a big requirement - Sheens and bennett would realistically know what chances they have with those they signed with, and the challenge asked by the punters.

The Sunday Telegraph has been told the situation is so dire the Panthers' beer supplier refused to deliver before a home game this season until a debt was settled.

Things are getting serious now! It was one thing not having a full time strapper or paying wages but now the beer isn't getting delivered?? No wonder Sheens turned them down!

It is not hard to determine that Tim wanted to be at a professional outfit (unlike Penrith) - but I have to ask you ink - is coopy your alter-ego - or is it just a case of man-lust????

I personally think that he watched Matty Elliot's interview on the footy show. When Elliot said that there was no money for resources (e.g medical staff) no money for juniors, the alarm bells started ringing for Tim. He chased the dollars once before at the Cowboys and that turned into a disaster for him. I'm willing to bet he envisaged the same shambolic set up at the Panthers than what he had endure at the Cowboys when he was forced to produce results when his hands were effectively tied by the board.

I think at the end of the day the Tigers revised deal was very close to Penrith's deal. So why take a big gamble when you dont have to. Everyone knows my views on what we should have done but that is history now, so lets hope this new contact gets everyone going in the right direction

I agree. He also had to do a bit of that set-up work when he came here - getting the gym up to speed etc. We also know Sheens hates board interference and that seems rampant out at Penrith. Even blokes like Petero Civoniceva are trying to get rid of them.

Cronulla and now Penrith.

Funny how these clubs who aligned to Super League and were allowed to stand alone are now coming under a blow torch. Can only imagine how much money News pumped into these clubs to keep them afloat.

It's interesting isn't it Gary? Call it karmic retribution for selling themselves out when it clearly wasn't in the games best interest. I'm relieved neither Wests or Balmain sold their souls to SuperLeague. One thing I will pay to the Roosters despite my bitter hatred for them, they didn't defect.

I think the underlying factor has already been unearthed: Sheens would have to deal with large amounts of interference from the Penriff board. Nepotism and corruption was rife in that place and I'm not so sure that it's gotten any better since Cowan has left. The rumblings are that Elliott was sacked for butting heads with the board as much as poor on field performances.

Tim has got it great at the Tigers. He has zero interference from the board and is allowed to run his own show.

Nothing compared to what they pumped into Storm and are still doing

that it is a question for sheensy not us, the topic should read In your opinion why did Tim re-sign but then again who cares what we think it aint important

If no one cares what others think on all topics Wests Tigers - we'd have no forum.
Red: No alter ego, just enjoy reading coops posts, he's clearly mastered primary school english unlike several others here

So don't post then. Easy fixed

Tim was never really wanted to go in the first place. He only stayed because WT extended their offer from 2 to 3 years. He already knew he had a 4 year deal on the table way before the media found out and wrote crap in the papers prior.
Panthers might've waved a fat cheque in front of his nose but the club does not have financial backing beyond that. Sheens knew if he had gone there, the club itself could not fund the players to attract to the club. Players he would want.
I would hate to play poker against the bloke.

Tim said he has unfinished business at the club …..... he knows the potential in the club and the very real chance of another premiership if not this year then next and the one after. Tim knows we are on the verge of a golden era at the Wests Tigers ...... so why would he walk ???
