Why do some of our fans...

Have such high expectation?

So many times I've read why we were lucky to beat a team. Today I'm reading "they had six out", well we have Farah woods and teddy out, so why didn't they beat us without our three most glorified players?

Last week, we beat a reggies team.

Souths game, they didn't play well.

Manly, played awful new team.

Warriors, played awful, new team.

At the end of the day all of those teams had the cattle and opportunities to beat us, but we won.

Should Melbourne give us the two points back because we got close? What about the Knights, Titans, eels and sharks. We got close enough to all of them, should we say that doesn't count because of factor A, B, or C?

We've had out share of injuries, suspensions, dud calls from refs over the years, so if every team got stripped of their points because of the salary cap and we ended up holding the trophy I'd still say we were premiers.

Sorry, bit of a rant. I'm sure in the past I've felt a win wasn't as good as it should be. Last night, however, we were underdogs, we should enjoy it because The NRL is such a rotten organisation, that clubs like ours don't need to do clubs like waynes pony rides any favours by making excuses for them.

I don't think I have high expectations but I think we are a lot better team than how we have been performing this and last year.

We beat Brisbane last night and the score flattered them. Yes they had origin players out bad that was a quality team.

This comp is the lowest overall standard that I can remember and the teams that we beat WERE out of form or missing players.
That's Fact
Part of the reason that some of us are hesitant to jump on the euphoric bandwagon at the moment is that we've seen it all before,
A couple of wins then the crash back to the basement.
we have been terrible in games and mediocre in some others, but they're still wins.
I'm not jumping and down until we can beat a full or near full strength team

Taking into account our situation which includes (I) back ended contracts which have for years continued to bite at our CAP and (ii) the fact that our younger players are understandably are taking time to reach their prime, I think that our club is doing quite well.

I really saw some positives despite the opposition

Defensively with both Ballin and Taylor we are a way better unit , the edges are still a concern

Attack wise we looked sharper without Tedesco , that is a great sign for us

And the biggie for me , usually if Brooks or Moses are struggling after 20 minutes they look for trick plays and low percentage miracles , they stuck to their guns , got their kicking games together and stamped their impact on the game

We were by far the better side v Brisbane , the scoreline didn't reflect it , but a month ago we lose that game in my opinion

We haven't turned the corner yet , but we have the indicator on and the world hasn't ended like it has in the past

I'm not saying anything that different to you. I don't think we are better than we actually are and have no idea where we will finish. My issue is many say we have either a bad squad or bad coach or both, but when this bad roster and bad coach manufacture a win its because the other team weren't good enough.

if we had lost last night some might have said we got beaten by a second rate team, when we win we beat a second rate team.

As your friend and mine JT said, I don't care, it's 2 points.

I said in the live thread I felt confident with those guys on the field, guys that haven't choked in our colours before.

Then JT hooked ET :roll

I'll put my hand up. I was one of the extreme few who stated before the season started that we'd make the 8 this year.

I thought:
The front row was looking stronger than it had in years.
The battle for the 9 would produce superb results from the many combatants.
The backrow worried me but there was great depth and hopefully Sirro would standup.
The halves were ready to stamp their names into the NRL after serving tough apprenticeships, taking the pressure off Ted to create points.
The centre's were tough with good speed and capabilities.
The wingers were a worry but I had faith JT had this area sorted.
The fullback was going to have a massive year.
The remainder of the squad were hungry after either just signing here or stepping up from NYC.

After the first couple of games I felt vindicated although a little concerned with the way we won. Blowing sides off the field early only to let them back into the game when the whips are cracking was worrysome. However I still kept high expectations.

But some players just didn't come on like I thought. I'm sure others feel the same.

It felt good to beat a broncos side.
Then a while later it turned to a little disappointed we only beat their depleted team by a point.
Then it turned to we were without our biggest yardage maker and best attacking player in woods and teddy.
Had a winger with only a handful of games a prop with a handful of games and a backrower also.

Funny thing is when you are missing a bunch of players the talk is always you should be able to plug those holes and still win,but when it is the opposition that train of thought gets thrown out the window.

Beating the Broncos up there was a great result. With both teams understrength, I wouldn't have been surprised if they had more NRL games in their squad than ours, and probably more $$ on the field too in terms of cap cost.

Absolutely, when they run out week after week and play poorly, everyone says they're rubbish. When they have a go and win, apparently the other team played rubbish. If compared fairly, I think our team well and truly over active against the broncos.

No doubt we made it a lot harder than it should have been, but at the same time we were despised outsiders against a side who still boasted 6 internationals, and an almost intact spine.

Well apparently wins only count if you beat teams at full strength…anything else is a Clayton's win...no one should be happy with that...

I liked how the channel 9 commentators never missed an opportunity to refer to the broncos as 'understrength'. In terms of Cap & TPAs, who knows, we might have been on an equal footing. Good Win!
