Why do u think WT struggle getting membership numbers like souths ad bulldogs?

We are prob the most popular side in the nrl (on par with bronocos) but we cant get big membership..

Perhaps these clubs offer better membership packages in comparison to the Tigers?? I actually think the membership packages aren't particularly cheap, and they don't give you a lot for your buck here…

1) Because the CEO can not capture our heartland (MacArthur region) and does not care about that area.
2) Because many supporters wont join up because of the blatant bias towards the Balmain side of the joint venture.
3) Fans dont feel a part of the Wests Tigers Organisation as many people see it as 'Balmain' and they do not want to support Balmain, they want to support Wests Tigers.
4) Many fans are disgruntled with Sheens and will join when he is gone.

There's probably a number of reasons. It's very expensive to live at the moment, and people are probably feeling the crunch. I upgraded my membership this year but I'll bet a lot of people have had to give it in. I'm lucky because I am childless, saving for my wedding and about to buy a house. Once I do that it will probably change for me too.

:roll

Come forward one and all and hear the gospel according to Bug…

I think the 3 home grounds are the key reason.

For example i am getting a claws sfs silver pack but only because my mates wont go to some campbelltown games. So someone may casually go to a sfs or lo game but wont bother with a membership as they will sit on the hill at leichhardt, wont travel to ctown and get a one off entry for sfs. Works the same way for ctown based fans trying to get into leichhardt… Ala why would u bother becoming a member for 4 games at ctown. There are patriotic reasons but financially or logistically its not worth the trouble for a lot of fans.

Three ''home'' grounds

Our fan base/supporter group is for the main part, conditional…part time, when it suits us...most only go to the ground that suits us imo....why get a membership when Im only going to go to 4 home games?
I can get some deal they come out with at the end of the year - like they always do - IF the make the semis, so I can get my tix first.

Question - How come you carry on about the lack thereof Wests heritage in the wests tigers club, yet your name has 'Blamain' in it? Shouldn't your name be Campbelltown Bug perhaps?

Because we have 32 home grounds 1 hour apart!

im a member, i join up as soon as the previous season finishes, but I live in the Manly area (mona vale) , i do hate manly with a passion don't worry, but i do get jealous of the local fans walking to their home game every second week esp when its a small loved ground like leichhardt is to us.

That's what I think too.

I know a lot of Wests Tigers fans, but with only 4 matches at Campbelltown. There's no guarantee that they will make it to all of those matches for one reason or another. Miss one match and thats a quarter of the Campbelltown matches missed. So a lot of people just find it easier to head out to matches on the day, if they can't make it to one game, they don't lose money as it may feel if they get a membership for 4 matches and miss one or two games.

If twelve matches were played at either Campbelltown or Leichhardt, then fans would be more obliged to get a full membership. If they can't make it to one or two matches, it's not so bad because it would still work out a lot cheaper then say going to 10 matches as a non member.

does it have anything to do with price - i dont understand how souths have so many memberships considering their geographical socio economic location. im baffled.

I think with Souths it depends on what you class as a "member". Someone could sign up for something very minimal, and yet they will get put down as a "member".

Dad lived in Lillyfield, I was born and bred in Balmain.

To site socio-econimc issues for poor membership is a cop out. Dogs, Dragons and Souths fans live in Sydney as well you know !!!!!

It comes down to extremely poor management by the CEO and people and the issues I have raised. Every Wests fan I know, refuse to become mebers on principle, they will join when the Magpies get 50/50 equal treatment and when the Fonz walks out. They all feel that way.

Been involved in balmain jrl for 10 years, I know plenty of tigers fans, all go to LO, some to sfs too….not many go to cambo....just the way it is - its tuff with jnr footy on sundays, you miss a lot of WTs games

You're a turkey. We're a powerhouse in the NRL. We've given the finals a shake for the last two years. Perhaps every "Wests fan" you know should take their head out of the sand and realise that Sheens is the most successful coach we've had and that 50/50 treatment does not equate to being called the Wests Magpies, having Wests juniors stacked in the FG side and playing every game at Campbelltown.

Are these the same "parents" you speak to?

exactly.. if they had 6 games at leichardt and 6 at campbelltown… we'd have 20,000 members... its that simple.

I don't get this, no wonder we are known as the club who's supporters only turn up when the boys are winning !! Me personally I wouldn't care if the Tiges had 10 home grounds, I'd travel to every single one of them… WHY?? Cause I'm a Wests Tigers supporter and when there is a footy game on, I'm calling in sick if I have too!

And for those who can't afford the same luxury to pick and choose when you work, you don't have to be a ticketed member ?? Just join and when there is a game coming up you want or can go too... Enjoy the member benefits !!

We have ALWAYS struggled with numbers in terms of memberships.

We had less members when we had a 6/6 split, we had less members when Noyce was CEO, we had less memberships when we won the premiership and the following year than we do right now.

It is a slow growth process, it is about habitual change on a generational level.

The important thing is our membership numbers are still rising, our crowd averages are still amongst the top 3 of all Sydney clubs, we have away attendence crowds to rival the Dragons, we are a hugely popular draw on both free to air and pay tv and we have marketable and respected stars at the club.

The rest is just peripheral.

Yes there is always something we can try to improve it, it will be hit and miss, it is the nature of these programs.

People will do what suits them and we are lucky enough to have a broad range fan demographic strong enough to counter these forces and still have us soming out as an NRL powerhouse.

It is about systematic changing of attitudes which is a long process. There will always be issues of ecconomic circumstance, uncertainty of availability through work ,kids sport or parents sport and social lives but the club is built upon solid enough foundations to weather all of this both financially (set up in great measure by the selling off of marquee games to guarantee income) and attendence wise.

Greater flexibility of GA packages would not hurt either but I am not sure of the logistics involved in such a program.

Bottom line is support the club the best way you can with what time and resources you can and that makes you an asset to the club. I would urge that nobody buy into the agenda riddled politiking that can come from either side of the joint venture partners ranks. There is more division in their minds than there ever has been or ever will be in reality
