The only logic I can see in applying any playoff system is if not all teams play each other twice.

For instance St.George last year. They were far and away the best team but come across a hot Parra, they lost and got sent to Brisbane the next week. I think if you come 1st or 2nd you should keep the home advantage all the way through to the grand final.
