Why I think Mick Potter is doing a great job

If there are any statisticians out there I would love to see our completion rate and Avg missed tackles at this stage over the last say 3 years… I also think we have played some very competitive sides early on this year that will help us get a bit of a run later. I just hope we can then ride that momentum in the back end of the regular season.

Hey guy's just a quick question, i know it might be a silly one but we only signed him for 2 years if im not mistaken, what happens after next season if he does'nt re-sign will we have to start all over again under someone else? Also i remember seeing articles how we missed out on ricky stewart to sign an extention for sheens, honestly i like Potter and seriously think he's got what it takes to do a bellamy at the tigers. After what we were in round 1 to where we are now even with an injury crisis he and the players have done an amazing job, lets not forget he is using someone elses roster. But back to my point about ricky stewart, even with having to pay potter and sheens knowing Potter is a "rookie" we come out miles ahead, I reckon Ricky Stewart's just an over glorified Terry Lamb as a coach. And lets all pray our club never goes back to those days. :bawling

I can't agree that Potter is doing a great job. It looks like he is doing the best job he can considering what he has taken over plus the injuries the club has suffered so I'm not saying he's doing a bad job but I hope to see the team and therefore Potter do a lot better. The team as it is should have beaten St George imo the fact that they didn't is disappointing, winning that game would have been a good step forward for the team and Potter's coaching. Players like Marshall, Lawrence, Ayshford and Blair for example are down on form and need to improve, some of this is up to them but the responsibility also rests with the coach. I am also concerned about the difficulty the team is having scoring points. I am not calling for Potter's head in fact I hope he succeeds.

Happy and agree with everything you said except this…

Sue has been the standout so far of the debutant forwards.

Don't forget that this is Buchanan's debutant year also… He is playing extremely well considering he is in the starting line up and his starting partner is only a couple of years older than himself..

I laugh at people saying Sheens left us in a mess. It's probably true for nrl but as a club….. We just about won everything last year, some people are hard to please . As for Potter, I said in another thread I wouldn't judge him after four rounds, and I won't do it now either, but I'm certainly encouraged by the way he has handled things so far, and wouldn't complain if he was given a 1 year extension to have a chance to create and work with his own roster.

Oh yeah! definitely; I admired Sheens' wonderful coaching of the NYC cup side to a premiership and his brilliant purchases of Blair, Anasta and removal of Fifita.

Sorry mate, I must have made a mistake. I thought we won Harold Mats, SG Ball, NYC and Premier League in 2012? Sure as I said, the NRL side sucked, but the club and structures results wise looked to be left in pretty good shape. You're kidding yourself if you think Payten didn't bounce things off Sheens throughout the year

So far I think he is doing a pretty good job. I think he needs to get the team structure right but he has done some good things such as picking Miller and Sironen and I think he was right in dropping Miller as well.

I think though he has to sort out a couple of players and where they fit in but it is really tough. Players like Fulton, Anasta, Blair, Lawrence, Tedesco, Moltzen and Benji.

I think purchasing Blair and Anasta were both fairly significant mistakes that impact on where Fulton fits in. I think Tedesco, Moltzen and Benji need defined roles for this year and not the swapping and changing. I think Benji might suit us a lot better at 7 because it allows Moltzen or Sirro to play at 6\. Lawrence also needs some work.

We have some pretty major problems from what I can see - an unsettled team with some pretty serious flaws. I like though the way Potter has handled the situation so far. Four forwards on the bench is to me a huge change in the right direction. A bigger pack especially a decent size backrow has made us look like a team that can win some games if we get some speed out wide.

I think that'd be a bit of an unfair comparison, 6 weeks into a season ….....when things are still taking time to gel- not to mention all the disruptions that come with employing a new coach ..........compared to a few entire previous seasons

Lets not forget as well as all the players potsys also inherited a hitorically fairly dud defensive coach

I think we have to work on getting the ugly stuff right first before we can focus on the pretty fancy stuff

It all starts with defence ….you all have to be patient one problem at a time. I. Can see Mick Potter as a career coach in the NRL no doubt , as there are quite a few coaches on the outer I suggest the Tigers extend his contract by another year by mid season as I expect the word will be circulating that there is a new kid on the block. I am very pleased with the way the coach is progressing lets all hope in the not so distant future the team will actually have a weekend where one of the top tier players are is not injured, there is a premiership to be had with Mick Potter I can feel it in my bones.

yeh well said, and just to add to that- i think we are starting to do the "ugly stuff" right.. now to see if they can do it consistently. as potter said at the start of the season "earn the right to play down the other end"

Yeh, his planning is starting to become visually evident imo

except for his use of halves or any attacking plans… maybe clear to others, but i still have no idea where our points are gonna come from

I think Gus said it best last week against Saints. We look so much more dangerous when we play direct using short passes, Robbie creating space in the ruck and forwards engaging the defence with footwork at the line and off-loading. This should allow Benji the space he requires to drift across the field and do what he does.

I believe its there but not in the quantity or quality required. I can see us making a run at the Semis at somepoint in the season.

Can't argue there. My overlooking him is only because he hasn't played like a debutant I suppose.
