Why is there so much Pessimism

My beef is, we keep getting new coaches, getting new three year plans and ending back at square one. Nothing ever seems to change. I guess if Cleary gets the gig thats a good step in the right directions, but gee I hope we are not saying the same thing in three years time about another coach

To be fair this is basically how it goes. The club did the right thing in sacking Taylor but I think they shouldn't have backed him when it comes to Robbie and they should have let him go at the end of last year. They probably didn't want to do this because it comes across as Robbie running the club.

I think the 3 or 5 year plans aren't even worth bothering with. It's about making good decisions regularly and then you end up in a good position. We had a coach who made a lot of poor decisions.

I think we are actually in a good position but we need some positive news including winning a couple of games.

The board shouldn't have backed JT for letting RF go?
Does anyone for one minute really think that the board would let that happen if they didn't agree 100%?

The JT sacking really didn't have anything to do with RF it was all about the team getting flogged in all grades for the last few weeks confirming that JT had not improved anything. In fact it got progressively worse and the board could see this year slipping away - again. If those floggings were instead close losses I think JT would still have a job.

Methinks our board is finally getting their act together.

Probably because all 3 grades are going terrible. NRL haven't scored after halftime for 3 weeks in a row, Reserve grade haven't won a game and NYC have been smashed three weeks in a row. We've sacked our coach and supposedly one of our best prospects just got released to go to Manly. Our best two players remain unsigned, both of our halves could be leaving. I mean it's hardly causd for optimism right now? Sure things can change pretty quick but right now it's not looking great.

Dont be so optimistic it could be worse we might extend Kevie and Rankins contract for 5 years then we could all have a good whinge.

I'm surprised Kev wasn't named at halfback this week…

Not in our team but, probably a better position for him to be playing.

It's a weird time to be a supporter. I've never been both so optimistic and pessamistc at the same time. I'm hopeful more than I am confident that we will retain the players we want. I'm preparing myself for the worst tbh. But at the same time I'm enthusiastic and have confidence in Cleary and that he will attract quality and turn us into a competitive unit who can be a consistent finals side. Fingers crossed he sells himself to Tedesco and Woods. The halves can suit themselves imo.

Check the ladders

Can you imagine if there was still a club championship 😱pen_mouth:

Three major reasons many are angry

Too many promises lay unfulfilled

Look at back up in lower grades , getting flogged weekly

The accountability only seems to be one way , if membership drop or we don't get good crowds we have the club whinging , if they don't perform it is excuse after excuse

I feel that once we win a couple of games, announce Cleary as head coach, along with the signing of a few new players we all keep hearing rumours about, the media will take their foot off out throat for a little while. That is until one or more of our players sign elsewhere

Tigers are full of shonks from the inception.
Dave Trodden and Elias stripped the joint a long with Nick DG.
Drug takers and match fixers and now Webster has rebel bikie links even being a pale bearer for a drug trafficking murderer.
The joint employs the worst of the worst, no wonder our players don't put in and want to leave.

I agree all is not over it starts again with a big win against the Saints on sunday but i will feel much better when i hear the Magic words " Tedesco has just signed with the tigers on a long term contract"

Being the laughing stock of the NRL may have something to do with it, along with being a graveyard for coaches, a reputation for developing young players or buying ones with potential and then releasing said players as soon as they show some form and for also paying overs for highly over rated players. Oh, nearly forgot, throw in a completely dysfunctional administration and board and you may start to see where the pessimism starts to creep in. Let's hope the signing of Cleary starts something positive within the organisation, god knows, we need it.

x 2

Says it all.

I've been intentionally avoiding this thread but this post caught my eye.

Yes I agree says it all - says why some fans just get so downtrodden and choose the negative side of an argument.

If we are the laughing stock of the NRL then I don't know what Newcastle, Titans, Warriors, Dogs are.

We are a graveyard for coaches so you say - why is that? Because we've sacked a few over 18 seasons or because those few aren't FG coaches any more? That's also something true of many clubs, very many clubs have a history of discontinuing coaches and most of those coaches don't coach any more.

Who are the juniors we release as soon as they show form? Please list the players specifically you mean.

Paying overs for over-rated players - always guess work this one. I know your list of "over-rated" players, it includes Blair and Anasta, but we don't really know how much Anasta was on and honestly I struggle to think of that many other high-profile over-paid footballers that we bought from somewhere else. Then you compare with Scott Prince, Hodgo, Gareth Ellis, Tuqiri, there have been some really good high-profile signings as well.

What at all leads you to calling the administration and board completely dysfunctional? This is an old chestnut supported by… nothing, nothing at all. Tigers sacked a coach, quite normal in the NRL, and suddenly the whole administration is dysfunctional? Pascoe said it himself, off-field which the administration is directly responsible for, is at high levels - highest ever membership, revenues are up, sponsorship is up. When was the last time Tigers were in the news for struggle to identify a sponsor for the uniform?

The main thing the club struggles with is the on-field performances. We are a poor club compared to others, I'm sure we'd love Des Hasler's technology and Brisbane's facilities, but we have to be realistic that until they cap non-player expenditure we are always going to be poor cousins to some of these teams. That's not dysfunctional, that's just being poorer than other people. Rich people are not functional because they are rich.

The pessimism slinks in when supporters notice the team hasnt improved through yet another off season.
Not really that hard to understand.

True , but it doesn't slink it , you just expect it will happen yet again

Why I'll be shocked even if Cleary is coach we will achieve anything

Just can't see he will attract the players we need when their are 14 better options ahead of us

"Just can't see he will attract the players we need when their are 14 better options ahead of us"

Rebuilding from the ground is hard. Ricky I think knew a little of what to do at the sharks but just could not get past loosing Greg "grub" bird, the forward (Ben Ross), and all the players he decided to punt like Kimmorley.

Wayne Bennett walked from Newcastle for all sorts of reasons, but Alex McKinnon would be one big one.

Rebuilding is a tough job. I think we have been leaning on our talent for a while to get mediocre scores.

I think Ivan might just like the way West Tigers are set up. Many of the team from Penrith have jumped across. He may need to cull the big 4 but I suspect that they won't be too unreasonable. (once they shop around and realise their real values). Either way the only person on the big 4 I would miss is Woods, Tedesco is outstanding BUT finding a fullback should not be that hard *dugan* cough.

This is it….I will be finished if these things dont happen..

1.Cleary gets appointed and the team still doesnt improve the defense and reads of the game.

2.The players still give a gutless display in the second half and hang their heads instead of lifting and trying 100 % FOR 80 MINUTES..

3\. A much better attitude overall in their performance,ie.tackle, pass and run like NRL players not park footballers, they have been around long enough to know exactly what and how to do things,if they are not up to it go elsewhere and give someone else a go at it,we couldnt lose much there,we havent got much....

I love the WTs no end,but have deadset had a gutfull of excuses and false promises of doing much better,to absolutely no avail...cant cop players demanding big dollars for very small performances, and its up to the new admin etc to put a stop to it,if they cant then they should be moved on as well,we are a young club and should be in a much better position than what we are..hopefully with better financial management and a slightly larger cap to work with things may change for the better for us...I can only hope...because all we have left is hope for a better future.....

I really don't believe any of this. My prediction is that we will make the 8 with the next coach that comes to the club even if all of the big 4 leave.

Everything goes in cycles. Maybe it just our turn to be at bottom. We can still turn it around if the team works together under the new coach

Hope your right , but the past says otherwise Earl

We have completely overhauled our club structure, created new positions that are cost to the club, and now we are in the corporate mentality without the money to achieve the required results. Someone should of thought this thing through a little better. Sometimes success on the field needs to be the priority.
