STATISTICIANS reckon Robbie Farah handled the ball 101 times and made 63 tackles in NSW's win in Origin II last year in Sydney.

He's a terrific player. But he could do that every rep game and he would still be no better than the No.2 hooker in the game.

How close is Robbie, who leads the Tigers against the Broncos tonight, behind Cam Smith?

Well, if there was a game in the balance, I'd take Cam as my hooker every day of the week.

He handles situations under pressure better than anyone.

Farah will come up with some great plays, but the question mark has always been how he handles pressure and whether he makes the right choices at the right time.

I think that will always be the aspect of the game he falls behind the Storm and Queensland captain on.

It's no slight, plenty of people who go back further than me say Cam is the most complete hooker and dummy-half Australia has seen.

Cam has all the skills to pass well and read the game.

He isn't lightning out of dummy-half but he is stronger than he looks and it's his knowledge about knowing when to run and when to pass or kick that sets him apart.

Since his debut for both representative teams in the 2009 season, Farah has played five times for NSW and four times for Australia, replacing Smith usually in the frontline Tests.

He has matured a lot in the past few years and I thought he was NSW's best player in their 2012 Origin series when there were questions marks you would hear about him not fitting in with a representative team.

Robbie flew home during Australia's 2011 Four Nations tournament when his mother Sonia was bravely fighting her sadly terminal illness.

Things in life sometimes force you to adapt as a person.

Last year, it was clear that NSW coach Ricky Stuart was planning to recall Danny Buderus to the Blues side.

Assistant NSW coach Steve Roach went so far as to say publicly that Farah was not "an Origin type player''.

After Buderus was injured and could not play in Game I, Farah went on to play the whole series.

The criticism at times has been that he has been selfish with the footy. I think he has been better for his team in the past 12 or 18 months.

He's a creative player on the field and likes to take a few risks, which was permitted by Tim Sheens, the previous Tigers coach.

The Tigers have long had players who can create points and with Benji Marshall not there again tonight Farah is definitely the player who the Broncos have to keep quiet to ensure victory at Campbelltown tonight.

Tonight's game is one the Broncos are expected to win and if they don't it would be a setback to their season.

Robbie has a challenge in front of him with no Marshall to provide a second big playmaking option.

But he has a great engine and will give them 80 minutes to relieve the responsibility from the less established halves they have tonight, Tim Moltzen and the less experienced Curtis Sironen.

Even when the Broncos were 1-3, I was not too concerned because I could see some improvement coming after going down to Manly, the Roosters and Storm, who are all quality opposition.

The Tigers are only one loss worse off than the Broncos, but Brisbane would be feeling pretty confident they can grind the win out tonight.

Fair analysis. Smith is the best hooker I have seen. Farah is a better athlete and has more to his game but doesn't have the football smarts of Smith.

x 2 Throw Steve Walters into the mix and possibly Benny they are the four best hookers I have seen

Thats what the difference between Smith and Farah is Smith takes the right option 95/100 times

I think Farah handles pressure just fine. I agree though that he comes up with hog plays at the wrong time and they have killed us in the past.

He is a great player. In some ways better than Smith. In a team with less talent Farah would be a better option than Smith because he has more to his game. In saying that to be a better player he needs to get rid of the occasional hog play that he comes up with at the wrong time.

Very for a Queenslander to be stupid enough to give the opposition motivation; and that's coming from a New South Welshman!

100 per cent guaranteed that will be in Farah's locker.

What do you expect from a QLDer…...I hope he has another blinder.

PS.....throw Cam Smith into our side, and Robbie into the Storm and lets see how they go.I know who would be going better.

What Lockyer fails to grasp is that Smith never has to carry the team on his shoulders.
Farah might make the odd bad decision - but Smith has the luxury of not being in that position to the same extent.
Smith lives on the hype of the Melbourne 'big three'.
Both him and Cronk are good players but it is ridiculous for commentators to continually put them near the top of the tree.
Slater has brilliance but has proved he makes stupid mistakes under pressure (try watching any Test match against the Kiwis)
Smith V Farah?
I'd take the man with skill and passion - and who would bleed for his team anytime.
And that's not Smith.

Despite how good Farah is and has been, Smith is a class above. I'm sure the only ones who'd disagree would be Tigers fans

Quite an arrogant way to put it i think, although fairly acurate.

Happy Tiger Steve Walters wouldnt tie Benny's shoe laces.

And they are the best judges of how good Robbie is..they have been watching him carry the tigers almost single handedly for years.

Or it can skew their opinion due to bias

Smith has enjoyed the benefits of the best organised coaching and football administrations ever for his entire career. Now that he has developed of course he contributes to this set up. But take him out of the Storm (organised and stars) or Queensland (surrounded by stars to use) then I suspect he would've been like the typical Storm player who moves elsewhere (hello Blair), not quite as good. But hypotheticals are nothing only reality is, and so he can claim to be the best.

For us Farah has been huge and there's no hooker we'd rather have than him. We need him.

I would take Farah over Smith any day of the week. Even when we are the losing side Farah is the best player.

Ii know he wouldn't tie his shoelaces KS Steve hated Benny and the Qld players used to taunt him with it

Unless they were wrapped around his neck

Mate I disagree ,completely different players in every sense , but if was to pick an SOO side (and I class this as the ulitmate football) I'd pick Walters every day of the week Benny needed things to be going his way to be effective ,Walters didn't and thats how in my opinion you know a very good footballer from a good footballer

Walters was nowhere near Benny, he was basically just a scooter from dummy-half that could defend ok. Benny had all the skills, people absolutely hated his guts and that is the only reason why people even mention Walters in the same breath as him.

Sure Farah hogs the ball sometimes in crucial situations but unlike Smith he doesn't have the luxury of Cronk and Slater to fall back on so more often than not he is forced to pull something special out himself.

Would love to see how Smith would perform playing in a wooden-spooner team, his god-like status in some people's eyes would be questioned. Everyone looks good playing in a top side, whether club, State or country.

More than happy to have Robbie as our leader than a parasite such as cheatin Cam.

Walters and Benny were 2 different players and played 2 different ways… Its no different to the Kenny vs Lewis argument. Again, Both were 2 different players and played 2 different ways.

Ironically, Smith is more of a Walters type and Farah is more of a Benny type. I think Farah is way more 'creative' than Smith, but Cameron is the better of the 2 based on his over-all game.

Walters vs Benny; Wally vs Bert; Lockyer vs Johns; and Smith vs Farah.... Either way you go, neither would let you down!
