Why we are likely to struggle

I am banking on Potter revamping the FG personnel for Round 1\. He has to be brave and show the current FG players that they have to perform or be axed. Last night's game was without spirit or leadership.

Look out for the following for Round 1;

1\. A new fullback (Tedesco).
2\. A new halfback (Anasta).
3\. A new prop(Blair)
4\. A new centre (Brien)
5\. A new lock (Fulton)
5\. A new second rower (Sue)

Dont forget thats a Tim Sheens side wait until we start signing fowards this year and start to see what Mick Potters team will be.

please we only sign short light weight, nsw cup type players, but potter has gone down a notch in my book his game plane was crap and his relucants to try players out other than the same players who failed last year is a worry. if we go with that type game plan we will get killed every week.

Hes definitely trying new players. And I believe he will continue too.Would love to know who was truly responsible for the Fulton signing for another 3 years. What a joke.Love Liam as a player and as a person. But hes not what we need he could probably go to Dogs,Roosters,Rabbits, sharks or Melb or Manly and be a star behind there big dominating forward packs but just about every Wests fan knows that a Fulton/Anasta 80 minute double will prove just as fruitful as the 80 minute double of Fulton/rhino.WE NEED SIZE AND MONGREL LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW. :brick: :brick: Why is it that just about every bloody fan can see it but our recruitment dept cannot.

As the seasons go on, the more I think the tigers are a 12 man team…the number 7 makes no difference if he is out there or not, whoever it is.

Benji and Robbie are a victim of their own success and I think all playmaking responsibility should be guided off the 7, which ironically, has no role in this team

Bottom line is we got murdered in the contact and physical stakes. Like we always do against Easts, and thats why we get flogged. You lose that battle and most the time you lose the game. They ran with power and aggression. They most the time, made easy yards after contact and even before contact. We battled to get out of our own end with a pedestrian go forward game. No players with any real intimidation running the ball, no one really denting the line or defending with mongrel. Take out Woods and we probably have the worst pack in the comp. Unless the ruck speed is somewhere going to go back to where it was in 2005 we could be in for a torrid season. Like people have said teams with aggression lie Souths, Easts, Canterbury will always give us trouble. Newcastle away in Round 1 looks a daunting match already.

The depth we have up front is mostly raw youngsters who are going to be very green. That's why i think with the inevitable injury or two we are in big trouble and 9th to 12th place beckons. I am hoping with the change of coach for some positives and some changes but lets remember its nearly the same playing squad then last year, that were very ordinary most weeks. Its early days and im sure we will have some good days but overall the lack of impact and depth up front means i think we will see many performances resembling 2012 until the squad can be revamped or players gain experience.

Eddie
as usual you have summed it up to a tee. I remember seeing the last half of the season last year and thinking their is not a lot of juice left in this squad of players and the new season arrives with all the same short falls.

Potter will probably turn things a little if he has the guts to flick a few established player but really without spending big bucks we are not going to trouble to many teams

God we miss Simon Dwyer so much! Big, strong rangy second rower who could make big hits and carve up in attack - oh what could have been :frowning:

Really disappointed with the front row recruitment this year. There seems to be a lot of faith being placed in the young props coming through, but in reality, how many young front rowers can slot into playing week to week in the NRL with ease? Woods is an exception, but there are very few others who have successfully made the step up in one season. Gavet was coming along nicely and looked to be a good buy, but now he is injured long term, even before playing a game for us. We had the money and really should've pushed to get Kite here, at the very least.

I don't think we can blame Potter for the recruitment as it was done before his time.

Potter in my opinion needs to rebuild the culture and blood young players this year.

We came second in State Cup and won the Under 20's so we have some talent but I know NRL is a big step.

Maybe we should show some faith in these young guys coming through and give them a chance.

We have Shando and Payten in our coaching ranks so they should assist with the development of young props.

If we have any money for next year maybe we make a big play for some one like David Shillington, Tim Grant.

I get the feeling Potter was keeping the reigns held tight on the boys after towelling up the eels. The last thing we want is to come into the season all hyped up after two trials.

I wasn't too fussed about the performance to be honest. We kept our powder very dry in attack and we tried to take on a physically bigger side through the middle in wet conditions without showing much mongrel. No real ball movement, no moving it wide early etc. It looked like an audition for the pack and a few contentious spots around the park.

Bring on round 1
