Loser club.

I think the Balmain side, of which I am from , can only remember 1 from memory . The infamous Alan jones year . Still I gotta say , it’s probably a good thing , for so many years we’ve been waiting for promise , and they’ve delivered is mediocrity . At least now we can build around some juniors . But youth means losses unfortunately .

Balmain got spoon 1994 Wayne Pearce was coaxh, Alan Jones never got the spoon

oh yeah AJ was a shocker lol
remember Brian Smith when Jones kicked out freeman for Brian Smith lol

I used to feel quite protective if the media questioned our integrity or our performances. I say nail us media. Expose every weakness in the club.

Talau

Seyfarth
if ur rebuilding why would u get rid of these guys ???
why not give them time to devlope i mean ur gonna lose anyways right ???

None of them have positions. Talau is not an NRL centre or winger. Neither is Hoffman, neither is Kepaoa. Kepaoa maybe could, but would need to spend all of 2022 in nsw cup.

Talau, we've tried to manufacture him into an outside back despite him never having played there before. It hasn't worked. Second row/lock is his last remaining option. We can dream he might turn into the Schuster type player that he was originally destines to be. We can start playing him there in nsw Cup,

Seyfarth is just a plodder. Our whole pack our workers, we don't have room for him. Twal keeps his spot as the top plodder we have as he is solid if extremely one dimensional.

Hoffmann is just far too slow to ever play backs in the NRL. He's not a Momorovski type player who'se IQ and overall game is good enough to negate his lack of pace.

All of this is right.

But Roosters former staffer who came to Wests Tigers is a genius ??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️

Well Jones set up the rot 1991-1993, post two grand finals, that helped Junior get the wooden spoon.

Oh yea , that’s right . We had a decent team in 1990 and 91 was supposed to be another year at the top , and put us in the toilet . Still I always thought he was the one who got us the spoon. Kinda sux it was junior .

The more the press gets stuck in ...the better ( in my opinion )

I don't think so. It will encourage panic decision, short term viability and no long term thinking. With that SMH article, we are out vulnerable now. Media will dictate our decisions instead of intrinsic factors.

The issue with failing is everyone starts making decisions to look after themselves and their tenure. No one is making 5-10 year plans because no one is contracted here for that long. Just like players aren't putting in the 1%ers because it doesn't add to their highlight reel. They care about doing enough so they can earn another contract. That's why we are always constantly a level below our opponents.

You could almost go so far as to say our future depends on us winning the spoon this season. When you hit rock bottom you make dramatic changes. When we're consistently close but not quite good enough that's when you think tinkering here or there will do the job. But it won't.

Our attack is awful. Our defence is worse. And it's somehow getting worse.

We need to change things off the field. Move Pascoe from CEO to CCO, bring in someone who can lead this club.

Sack Madge and all assistant coaches. Everything we do is reliant on individual skill, we don't even resemble a team.

Get rid of a large number of our first grade squad and get players who might be able to play a role in the future.

Move on/don't re-sign:
Brooks
Joey
Roberts
Talau
Hoffman
Kepaoa
Nofoaluma
Tamou
Musgrove
Garner
Chee Kam
Walters
Mbye
Seyfarth

If Twal and Joffa swap places then they can stay, both are borderline though being played horribly out of position.

We need to start promoting our flegg and nsw cup players and use the 6-700k to sign some players that can make an immediate impact this season. This season is all about building for 2022, let's actually do a proper rebuild and take a holisicitc view, with everything being about developing our players (but not totally throwing them to the wolves in one go) so that they are indivudally and collectively ready for next season.

Winning a couple more games on and off will only ensure nothing changes. So screw it, let's suck and expect to lose but come out all teh better for it next season!

No one should think we need to win the spoon. Sorry but I cant agree with your post at all

Wake up!
Those in denial don’t see how poor this club has been for decades.
I’m convinced of three things.
1 Wests (western suburbs) couldn’t give two hoots about the success or failings of club associated to them by extension. In fact the lack of success from this team only gives them more satisfaction and potential fodder for the magpies to be reinstated as a single entity.
2 We have a team of con artists. Players come to our club for the good wages, long holidays and ability to be part of an organisation that has no accountability and subsequently pressure to succeed.
3 Why we need the spoon?
When you have a club that spends more effort on trying not to lose than they do on trying to win you know the clubs focus is skewed.

in that time we lost Roach, Jack, James Grant Michael Neil, Bruce Maguire, Freeman Wayne Pearce
we lost plenty of talent in those years, Jones still couldn't coach but neither could junior

What a dumb thread. Winning spoon has done wonders for Broncos.

The Broncos will make the finals again before we do.

As will the yet to be formed new Brisbane team. How sobering is that.

I think we cop enough from the press. More than oth the broncos and dogs together probably and yet, I don't think we're as bad as they have been for some time.

Dogs made a GF in 2014

Brisbane up until last few seasons were regular finallist

Yet we haven't been as bad as them for some time

Some are just purely ignorant of this clubs problems

So you are saying Broncos will make the finals again before Tigers because they won a spoon? Because that's the point of the thread.

My point is coming last is not any better than coming 11th, nor should it be suggested to be. Clubs don't cut coaches simply because of wooden spoons, and coming 14th or 15th a few times won't save a doomed coach.

You just don't get it. And must have really enjoyed the past 10 years.

Why haven't we changed things at all in that time? Becuase we've never hit rock bottom so we make minor tweaks year after year hoping that will do the trick and we'll go from 9th to 8th. We need to blow up our blueprint and start with a blank piece of paper.

Even writing a dozen names on a whiteboard ala Ricky might be a good start

I think that's what Payten is doing at NQ. Blow it up and start from scratch.

That’s what Maguire is doing here but some people don’t like the process, but it is needed. It’s re-engineering and it’s a long haul task, not a quick fix.
