Why will we improve in 2016?

We will slowly buy some players over the next couple of years.

I hope that this is not another rumour.

Slowly being the magic word in that statement Col

Of course.

Once the salary cap situation is overcome, then we will be able to be competitive in the player market. This was always going to be so.

We would all like the team to be competitive but some want it today. This was never going to happen. Sheens could not do it, nor could Potter. Taylor was employed (by our new Board ) for the long haul. Let things play out over the next 12 months or so and if there is no improvement, then by all means let the dogs out. But not before.

Won't believe it until I see something official.

CB,you can't get anymore official than the WTF…..haven't you noticed all the experts on,coaching, salary cap,Admin, gameplans and everything else WTs.....

Hhahaha…recruitment is a two way street....just because we want players, doesnt mean they'll wanna come here.
The players we need, and the coach we need, will have an array of options to choose from..

A bit too simplistic

If Potter had a full squad week in week out like Taylor did, we would have been in the eight right now or at least in the battle for the eight, simple.

Tedesco and Brooks were playing miracle footy at the beggining of last season, i think we were something like 7/9 with Tedesco.

Russell you can't have if both ways i.e. you are saying don't sack the coach but take a player vote and all those players against the coach (even if they are the majority of players) sack them all.

Wait a minute Newtown - have you understood what I had to say?

What do you mean I can't have it both ways.

I want JT as the coach - he has 2 years to go on his contract.

What I said was "if there are players against JT staying on as the coach - sack them!"

Both ways ?????????????????? Lay off the grog Mate!

Actually Russell its quite confusing what point you are trying to make.

On one hand you state we cant sack Taylor because he has a contract that has another 2 years to go, also you have mentioned on a few occasions that we have no money to pay out that contract.

Now you offer that we sack all the players that don't support JT.

Say 5 players didn't support JT. How on earth can we afford to pay out 5 players contracts if we cant afford to pay out JTs?

Also why do we honour JTs contract but not the players?

It sounds like you are contradicting yourself.

Take your point boys - obviously not explained very well.

We can't pay everyone out - granted.

The point I was trying to make was that if they don't want to play for the present coach - get rid of them. Maybe NSW cup then.
You can't have players dictating to the club as to who the coach is.

We have been there twice recently.

I don't think any of the players are against JT in the first place.

Apologies for the confusion Newtown - maybe I was on the grog and didn't know it.

The better teams have something that they can use as a carrot to players that they want, Such as, an established top quality Coach , or a quality team, well run club , or a big chance of making the playoffs with the added advantage of more of a chance of entry into rep football. Along with TPAs
Realisticaly, We cant tick any of those boxes. So it comes down to two choices for us. Either we throw bigger piles of money at them, than the rest do( and the cycle starts again, )or we go bargain hunting again and give opportunity to players that not many other clubs want. Either way, not good
A by product of our season this year is that a lot of players won't want to be part of this club and Coaching setup. Most players do care about the scoreboard and winning.
And the fact that we haven't improved after a year supposedly concentrating on defence, will be another tickless box. I hope we can get the players we want and need, but I think that is very unlikely

Why we will improve in 2016, that one is simple, because when you come last their is only one way you can go..and thats up or worst case scenario you maintain your position, one thing for sure you can not go down

Yeah I think we can, 16th in 2015 and 15th in 2016, it will be challenging though we have to believe in ourselves. I expect the club to move forward in 2016\. 2015 was a year of putting in new defensive systems and extra bag tackling. Taylor has definitely shown that he can bring out the best in the boys in 2015, I'm confident in 2016\. :crazy

Sorry, but I'm not sure if this is a serious post or a facetious one. It's late and the sarcasm meter isn't working well, the last sentence was the confusing bit.

Sorry cobb, just coming to terms that we are actually going to get the spoon after Newcastle beat the storm. Hence the sarcasm..

Jeez I'm glad I asked, at first I thought it was serious, the " bring out the best in the boys," was the bit that threw me

well the sharks came 16th last year and they're on the brink of top 4 this year .

the panthers did something similar the year before .

as the great Yazz used to sing , "the only way is up , babayeeee"

Not a fact, more like wishful thinking.

I just can't see where the improvement is going to come from.
Most of the teams around us will be better in terms of personnel (bar perhaps the GC) whereas we'll be treading water (again).
Despite all the chat re: defensive improvement, there's been very little of it on the actual pitch. JT came out in mid-season - after 11 games - and said the team would be judged on their performance over the next 13 games. SInce then we've gone 3-8 and averaged over 27 points against per game.

Yes he used the way we finished last year as his benchmark to improve on. He was confident we would come good and knew how poorly we finished the year in 2014\. As you say we are getting hammered in defense and imo the attitude while not as bad as the last 6 games last year is a concern.

I cant see anything but minimal improvement for next year myself.

I don't think we'll improve by much, the roster just isn't good enough. I don't think these juniors are as good as everyone is making them out to be. We won't improve till we have cap space to make significant gains in the player market. When that time comes though we'll probably have to pay overs, then probably be back at square one. One thing I do hope is that when we do win some games that people can handle the euphoria of a rare win, and not get carried away talking about our premiership chances. That is a long way off.
