Don't like this idea. Yep the top 6 get a week off to rest up but the pay off is you have more also rans in the finals series. Let's play an extra round and cut the finals to 5 or 6.

I don’t follow the NFL but don’t they do something like this for their playoffs?

The winners of the eight divisions go through to the finals plus two teams from each conference with the best win / loss record making 12 teams in all. 32 teams start out and 12 teams make the playoffs.

It works well for them as you could be the second best team in the comp but not win your division and not go through.

The NRL idea is a nice decision but add two more teams and then split the comp into two division and wild card round would become a real feature.

Paul Kent spoke of this the way I think. Don’t bastardise the sport for the sake of entertainment value. The entertainment should be the sport. The sport shouldn’t keep changing to suit bottom line. Many will disagree and I understand that - sport must evolve for a changing audience. I get that but at what cost. For a 16 team comp a top 6 should be enough. Though I like top 8 I must say. You want top 8 and a lucky door prize for 9 and 10 maybe a 20 team comp us where we are heading.

For anyone saying it's entertainment… you are wrong.
If Greenberg was in charge of the Olympics they would have to add some extra lanes in the pool and on the track.
Sometimes when you throw the integrity of the sport down the plughole for a few bucks you start to lose the people who were attracted to it in the first place.
Of course it is entertaining but it's sport foremost - not WWE.

Where do all the extra players come from?

Teams like the Tigers, Penrith, Parramatta etc will be bled of juniors. Thats how the Storm have been so competitive by picking the eyes out of every club with a great junior pool. In my view we already have to many teams, take it back to 12 teams. We don't need the Storm, Warriors, Broncos and Cowboys in the competition. Can anybody say that going to the football is better now than in the 70s or 80's? Back then you used to get 3 games and watch your juniors rise through the ranks and know a fair chunk of the players in the opposing team. Last time I went to Leichhardt 1 game what a jip!

The NRL is going backwards.

The quality of the game will suffer if more teams are added.

That part is correct, but can be done without reducing teams.
