I agree that we need to sign him, but a petition will do bugger all other than let the club know that a whole bunch of armchair critics think he should be there.

They have people there in charge of recruitment who wanted to give him a go, the issue is more sponsor based.

Sorry to kill the speculation. My take on their tweet exchange is he's waiting to hear from a team other then Tigers and Lote was expressing his disappointment in us withdrawing our interest in WM. Interestingly, the tweet was retweeted by Blake Ferguson so maybe….waiting to hear from Raiders?

Hearing he is still a chance to sign this week. Will keep posted

Thanks smoking gun. Off topic, I just have a question for you - do you have any inside info as to why Junior Moors is not given a proper go in first grade? He's a consistently good player, who has never let us down in his very limited time in first grade. Yet he is always the first one dropped when we have a bad game or when someone comes back from injury. I just don't get it, because, with our present lack of forward power, we could really use him right now.

My guess is they want more than 1 signing Montague Street. Mason and 1 other. Maybe Shackleton, Cashmere or Rose. I remember they went for an exception with Mason that didnt work out in our favour. Thats my take on it anyway.

Ellis injury crisis won't sway Tigers over signing up Mason

WESTS TIGERS' premiership hopes have been plunged further into crisis with English workhorse Gareth Ellis facing up to three months on the sidelines, but they made one thing clear last night - they won't be changing their minds and signing Willie Mason.

Vulnerable in defence, particularly in the middle of the field, so far this season, the equal-last Tigers have been on the look out to bolster the quality of their forward stocks.

The prognosis on Ellis's fractured left foot only intensifies those concerns, but they have vowed to stick by the current squad for now.

That means no about-face on Mason, who the Tigers last month turned their back on after entering briefly into discussions with the 31-year-old former international.

Mason remains desperate to secure an NRL return, tweeting Tigers winger Lote Tuqiri yesterday: ''Hopefully something gets sorted this week!! F*** I was spewin last week. I thought it was sorted!''

Despite the Tigers losing their best forward for a large chunk of the season, he won't be getting that opportunity at Concord Oval.

''I'm not going to talk about Willie Mason,'' Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said. ''We've said, 'Not as far we're concerned', that we've had our conversations, they've been concluded and we're not progressing with it. We just back our existing roster. We have confidence in them to do the job.''

Coming off a heartbreaking 17-16 golden-point loss to South Sydney, the Tigers will at least get some relief with the return from suspension of captain Robbie Farah and possibly of front-rower Keith Galloway from a left-foot injury.

Ellis leaves a major hole, however, particularly in their defensive line. The Tigers were opened up repeatedly and with apparent ease in his absence against St George Illawarra last month and after the Englishman exited Allianz Stadium on Sunday there were further worrying defensive signs, with Souths hooker Issac Luke allowed to score from dummy half twice.

After a start to the year in which their premiership odds have slumped from $6 to $15, the Tigers have made moves to bolster their front-row stocks.

Aside from the negotiations with Mason they also tried to acquire former Tiger Ray Cashmere, but that play was blocked by the Dragons' NSW Cup feeder club Illawarra Cutters, where he is the captain.

The Tigers are not interested in Manly's George Rose and Parramatta's Shane Shackleton, two props who are out of favour at their respective clubs, and have for the moment ceased their pursuit of more experienced heads up front.

''You never say never, but right now that's not something we're actively doing,'' Humphreys said.

Adding to the Tigers' woes is a long-term injury suffered by one of the club's rising stars.

''We've got a very good young forward by the name of Andrew Vela who we would have but he's just had a shoulder reconstruction,'' Humphreys said. ''He's one that would have come into the frame - he's only in his first year in under-20s but we've got a very high opinion of him. But he had surgery last week.''

More immediately, Liam Fulton is set to take Ellis's place by reverting to the back row for the Good Friday meeting with high-flying Brisbane at Allianz Stadium.

Farah is a welcome addition for a side that looked as good as they have all season before unbelievably blowing a 12-point lead inside the final five minutes on Sunday.

Galloway will have to complete a fitness test to clear the way for his return from injury and the Tigers cannot get the giant Australian prop back soon enough with the team's other front-rowers Aaron Woods, Matt Groat and Ben Murdoch-Masila short on experience.

I thought we should have signed him after round two when we were outmuscled and pushed around. He adds size and aggression. We have had worse characters at the club.
