Willie mason ???

I was told this morning that Penrith and the Wests Tigers were in a 'Battle' for his services. Wests Tigers are determining the liability of one if his knees.

GO THE PENNY PANTHERS–- I hope they win the battle and soon

Please, no! I dont care what he can offer our club. I don't care if he played for free. I could not cheer for him, even if he possessed the abilities of Marshall in a forwards body. It sickens me to think of him in Tigers colours.

We are favourites for the title this year, do we really want him in our grand final photo and claiming he was the difference.

Balmain Bug, do you know when a decision is going to be made

Joe I posted earlier it will be resolved in the next fortnight that was about 5 days ago. In that same post I said it was down to us and the panthers from what I understand penrith have offered around 10-20k more and like I said it's either money or premiership that will ultimately decided where he plays.

Lets hop he has a bit of the Matt Utai about him them, and welcome him to the club when it happens.

Matt Utai was considered the worst signing of the off season last year, turned out the be almost the best.

Let hope Willie can do a repeat of Utai and have us all eating humble pie come September.

When looking at highlights reels like this (turn the music down) its hard not to get excited if we do sign him…

Gee Helmesy lots of his highlights are in the Bulldogs jersey

That was a fair while ago now …..

True

Still I guess he's just as big and strong as ever - probably only lost a bit of pace and agility.

He's not as dynamic as he used to be.. doesn't scatter defenders, make breaks and busts tackles anymore, like he did in the vid. But he does run straight and hard. And he's still got a terrific offload, which we're lacking.

Look, I don't like the bloke.. but if we're offering less money than the Panthers and he chooses us over them, that'll show that he's coming for the right reasons and I'll back him. I back anybody as long as they wear the Tigers jersey with pride and commitment, regardless of how big a toolbag I think they are personally..

Hang on a minute..we supposedly couldnt afford to keep Gibbs who is in his prime & a proven & highly valued first grader, but we can afford to buy BOTH Mathew Bell AND Willie Mason,a couple of 30-somethings who havent shone for years(if ever in the case of Bell).
I simply dont get it,other than Sheens must have had enough of Gibbs antics(but is prepared to take a much bigger potential risk on Masons antics)
:wtf ??

Yes i agree with the clontarfkid, we let Gibbs go who was playing top football & we sign Bell & maybe Mason, where does the money come from.

maybe gibbs was on bigger money than we thought, and bell and mason are on smaller money - Perhaps Mason + Bell = Gibbs?

Also lads, Simon Dwyers portion of the salary cap is also not included in 2012 as well due to his injury - and reportedly his contract for the next couple of years was good money - so Take Gibbs and Dwyer off and I think you would have enough cap space.

If I'm sitting in Willies shoes at the moment it seems like a pretty simple decision to make. A team with a genuine chance of winning the competition or an up an down season for an extra couple of bob in your pocket at penrith where you might scrape the 8 if you're lucky.
I honestly don't believe the question is if, so much as it is when?

Bell would be on the minimum, and you need 25 in your squad, so if he was not there, so one else would count to the cap, he has no effect on your cap.

Gibbs was on reasonable money.

Mason will be offered a smallish contract

$20k on your last ever contract is a reasonable amount

Well if our culture is so good maybe we can convert him?

Surely 30 good influences are more powerful than one bad one!

It depends how management handles any wayward behaviour, needs to be stamped on straight away otherwise there is potential for others to be influenced and things can go down hill from there.

Also I believe he still has house in the eastern suburbs and that probably makes Penrith a bit too far away, pretty big trip five days a week.

If he did drive the extra $20,000 would be chewed up in petrol!

He could use public transport like Joe from Manly. :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm sure that it is a reasonable amount, but for a bloke who's just wasted his time chasing money in French rugby you'd think that there are things he could achieve with us that you can't put a price tag on. It's well documented how "tight knit" the playing group are, you can't put a price on playing good footy, with a great bunch of blokes and tasting a little success at the same time.
Not that any of this couldn't happen at penrith, this is just how I see things from masons perspective.

I think he`d be a great signing. Bring him off the bench to get us going forward when the starting props are having a rest.

He would be in the run on side with penrith. He would also be a big fish in a small pond. At the tigers he would be fighting for a bench spot in the rear view mirror of many stars. That might be hard on the ego for mason..

Personally I think if he came to the tigers we would turn on our opinion of him quicker than Lui turned on his ummm ankle.
