Willie mason ???

True Yoss. I remember hearing that he was diagnosed with ADHD. I can tell you from experience that there were two medications for people of our vintage. One of them was a methamphetamine.

Bingo. Which could be a reason he didn't want to discuss it. Even today many of those drugs are based on amphetamine like substances. I think Ritalin would result in a positive result to an amphetamine/meth-amphetamine test.

It does Yoss. I lost a good job once because of it. As the great Kamahl once said " Why are people so unkind"

Both of our posts discussing the use of certain drug types in commonly available medications were deleted by mistake or someone who is over zealous. We weren't suggesting anyone was doing anything illegal - on the contrary we were discussing genuine medical problems and the medications prescribed as a result. The failed drug test is a matter of record (well it was in the SMH). I think all we did was suggest there are any number of reasons why the test turned up the result it did.

Anyway it is all reported here:

There is nothing be posted that is not contained in the above.

and just so everyone knows his offield stuff its like a essay on why not to sign him for that alone let alone having nothing left

In 2002, Mason is reported to have run from a taxi to avoid paying the fare.

In 2003, he tested positive to an illicit social drug, reported to be an amphetamine, and was fined $25,000 by his club. Mason has never commented on the issue publicly.

In 2004, Mason along with Trent Waterhouse, Craig Wing, Craig Gower and Mark O'Meley, were fined for unprofessional behaviour and for leaving the team hotel after the side had returned from the night out.[32] Mason forged another player's signature at an autograph event, and after a heavy drinking session with team mates, reportedly visited a brothel.

At Sydney Airport in 2007, Mason verbally challenged a female reporter from radio station 2GB, resulting in a complaint from 2GB to the Bulldogs club and the ARL Mason later admitted to the outburst, which was captured on audio recordings, and apologised to 2GB journalist Michelle Keighran.[38] Mason is sponsored by sportswear manufacturer, Champion, which almost severed its contract with the controversial footballer as a result of the incident.

Also in 2007, Mason was involved in a nightclub altercation with the out-spoken Richie Williams, who Mason claimed shows no respect to the older players in the NRL and is a cocky kid who has yet to prove himself in the NRL.
Mason was voted the most hated player by a fans poll in 2007
In February 2008 Mason and his new Roosters team-mate Anthony Tupou were charged with urinating in a public place during a visit to Port Macquarie.
In May 2009 Mason was fined $2000 by Sydney Roosters after being photographed urinating in a public place

LOL reporting stuff from 10 yrs ago. You know Bryce Gibbs did the same thing don't you? he also assaulted a female police officer at Rosehill racecourse. Never hear any mentions of those facts. And its clear that people only don't want him because they hate him, coz it doesn't take a genius to know that we need SOMETHING in the forwards at the moment because we are just going to continue to get bashed. No, he's not the player he was, and no he's not going to be a saviour, but if signed will do a much better job then Groat will do at the moment

Also funny that you included a story about Ritchie Williams, a guy remembered more for his mouth then his footy. Whatever was said to him was well deserved, wether it was from Willie or not

Dean Richie has wrote in the DT for tomorrow that WT have withdrawn.

Stakeholders and several board members against it. Have built a relatively squeaky clean image since 2003 that was not worth the risk. Sheens was keen and the deal was very close however at the last minute we have pulled the plug.

Anyway, Im fine with the decision. It would have been a gamble. You don't want to listen to fans, however if you lose fans and sponsors because of it then you have to take a cold hard look at it. We are good enough without him even though he could have added something. However to string it along like this was poorly handled. Humpty has been made to look like a bit of a goose again with all this indecision being played out in the media. I almost feel sorry for Mason, seem like he have stringed him along a bit then left him out to dry.

Seems like we are a bit all over the shop as to who runs the joint theses days.

This is really disappointing if true. Not that I matter ( nor will I ever stop supporting my tigers ) but I now think we have a rift in the admin/direction of this team. If, and I mean if sheens thought that mason was necessary, and humphrey's over ruled him, then I think the powers that be on my beloved team seem to be at loggerheads. I hope it all turns out for the best. Mark my words, this is one of the most important years in our recent history. I suspect Humphrey's is losing his nerve. ( a caveat; I know no one one the inside and this is all an outsiders perspective )

In fairness to the CEO The BUlldogs and the Roosters were set back years fan and sponsorship wise because of Mason and some of his pals. I think he would have been fine and come in hungry with something to prove. However you can't deny those clubs credibility and reputation took massive hits image wise and that is a big gamble to take. If fans and sponsors were threatening to pull the plug (however unfair on Mason that might be) then you may have a right to over rule the coach.

Still I agree, it smacks of a club at loggerheads to some degree.

Just because the DH's at the DT say it isn't happeneing means nothing

But you can understand why sponsors and officials could be concerned about signing him

If true I feel very sorry for Willie Mason. If you read this Willie I apologise on behalf of our board because most of us with half a brain wanted you and they are clearly soft cocks with no [This word has been automatically removed]ing idea. You certainly don't deserve to be strung along and then rejected because of some overblown bad boy image that doesn't even compare to some of the other superstars in the game.

Who's worse, Carney or Mason? If you say Mason you have NFI.

I am ashamed of our club. I am considering voiding 2012 from memory because the first four weeks of this season so far have just been beyond disappointing. Holy shit this is like a bad dream.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Whether you like Mason or not (I don't) it is Humphrey's job to make tough calls.

To let this drag on for weeks….............and then not sign him as a few people were against it. This bloke is an AMATEUR as an NRL CEO.

Why didn't he canvass opinion behind closed doors weeks ago? Why let it drag on? Why not make a decision one way or the other and then announce something and be strong about it?

Humphrey's should have been sacked after the mess with Gibbs and co.

This time he should just walk. He's got no idea how to manage these things.

Mason to Tigers deal unlikely to go ahead

WILLIE MASON'S future is again in doubt after talks between Wests Tigers and the unsigned forward appeared to collapse.
While the Tigers had been the first NRL club to officially express an interest in the former Test and State of Origin representative, the Herald understands the club is now highly unlikely to offer Mason a deal for this season, and are set to officially end their brief courtship today.
While discussions continued yesterday, it is believed Tigers officials will baulk at offering Mason, who has returned to Australia following a stint with French rugby union, a lifeline after assessing the backlash and also examining the salary-cap repercussions.

While some, including Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy, supported Mason's return, many Tigers fans had vented their opposition to any deal.
Other factors are at play, however. It is believed that Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys had spoken with salary cap auditor Ian Schubert about the potential acquisition of Mason, which revealed some stumbling blocks. Humphreys maintained talks were ongoing but appeared to play down Mason's chances.
''I've met with Sam [Ayoub, who is negotiating on behalf of Mason] and I've met Willie, but I'd describe those talks as exploratory,'' Humphreys said last night. ''I said we'd have a think about it and that's what we're doing.
''I know other people have said we've signed him or we're not going to sign him, but it was just an exploratory conversation. We were just having a think.
''We agreed to have another chat in the morning.''
Ayoub said: ''It's still where it was three weeks ago when they first met with him. Others are implying that he's there; others are implying that he's not there.'' Asked whether talks had broken down, Ayoub said: ''It's probably a question you should put to the Tigers.''

Humphreys will make up some press release about it being "for cap reasons"…............just you watch.

He won't man up and say "no, i didn't want him" or "yeah, i made the call to sign him".

Just be up front for once......................really getting tired of our CEO treating us all as morons who can't see through his PR spins. He's like a politician.
