Willie mason ???

Smoking Gun always seems to be on the mark with his info. The problem appears to be the 2nd year of this deal. Not fans and sponsor issues. His signing would put 1500-2000 people more through the gates on his debut.

Is it possible Humpty might be bending the truth?

DON'T think the hue and cry over Willie Mason was the lone factor in Wests Tigers' decision to pull the expected deal yesterday.

We've heard NRL cap auditor Ian Schubert also did the club no favours by refusing to grant a rugby union salary cap exemption to Mason.

Schubert claimed the discount didn't apply to Mason because he's a former league player returning to the code. Talk about splitting hairs.

Hmm interesting aye?

More interesting if he allowed the cap exemption on other returning players - although Mason didn't play union long enough to get fitted for a tweed jacket.

It's the cap :frowning:

I REALLY wanted him here. Give us some spark up front.

I'm honestly disappointed. but GO TIGERS!

Lol smoking gun he doesnt even know whats happing everyday he says something lol.

The Tigers aren't going to come out and say that they have been dealing with Mason for months are they

Things can change very quickly in 24 hours SG has been on the mark most times and even Tiger99 said the same thing last week that Mason was SSD

I still think some embers are still burning with the Mason situation Maybe they will make the announcement on monday to try and give the boys a psychological boost

If Mason did sign I would have honestly expected him to appear for BRET out in Cessnock this weekend before any fanfare etc

Becoming like a storyline in a soap opera - what surprise twist can they throw in next?
He must have been very close if a couple of guys within the club say it was a done deal.
If it's cap related (him not coming) it makes you wonder why they wouldn't have addressed that issue FIRST.

It won't be a cap issue , if they have been talking to him for while before letting Brown go they must of had some money then Assuming that Brown would of been on approximately 100k there should not of been any issues

There will be another real reason Probably concerns from major sponsors

i cant see it being cap , we let gibbs , fifita go , payton retires , dwyer taken off contract , you would think they would keep a bit up their sleeves even after the players we signed

can't believe tigers say no to mason. comon guys im sure he'll have a go and block the hole up front. give him a go im sure he will prove all his knockers wrong

agree 100 % he will add the experience and the size up front , if the sponsors are having a say , i would say to them , he could make a difference to our season , we are only 3 games in , injuries are a big worry

All this back and forth: He is going to sign then we are not going to sign him reminds me of the Moltzen debacle. Just wish Humpty et al. would hurry up and make up their mind(s)

the only people who are making it an issue is the forum and media..

Tigers have said they will decide with in the week..

and its like the Moltzen saga, only people who made the issues out of it were the whingers at SG and the forum/ media.

Tigers say their bit, do what needs to be done and leaves it at that.. they dont start playing games or start messing with peoples heads..
