NSW Cup: Tigers crush Windsor 32-6
Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers recorded a crushing 32-6 win over Windsor Wolves at Belmore Sports Ground today in week one of the NSW Cup finals.
In front of a small but passionate crowd of Tigers fans, Balmain Ryde Eastwood were always in control to advance to the second week of the finals at Leichhardt Oval next Sunday, September 16\. The Tigers will play Wentworthville Magpies. Kick-off time to advised.
It was a strong win by the Tigers who finished the regular season in eighth place under Coach Paul Fletcher. The Wolves finished fifth and have now been eliminated from the competition.
The Wolves opened the scoring in the 4th minute through lock Adam Docker on the back of three consecutive sets. Half-back Craig Trindall converted the try for a 6-0 lead.
The Tigers hit back in the 9th minute when the ball was spread right to send winger Jy Hitchox over for a try in the right corner. Full-back Sean Meaney converted the try from the sideline for a 6-all scoreline.
Centre Tim Simona sliced through the heart of the defence in the 24th minute with a superb 40 metre run to score alongside the posts. Meaney converted the try to give the Tigers a 12 – 6 lead.
Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers went to a 16-6 lead in the 33rd minute when Meaney found some open space to score beside the posts after some razzle dazzle out wide by the team in keeping the ball alive. Meaney converted to give the Tigers an 18-6 lead after 35 minutes.
The Tigers extended their lead to 22-6 when second-rower Josh Davis crossed over out wide after 38 minutes. Meaney converted the try to give Balmain Ryde Eastwood a 24-6 lead at half-time.
2nd Half
Balmain Ryde Eastwood were denied two tries in the opening 10 minutes. The first from a grubber kick by Nathan Waters for Meaney to score before hooker Masada Iosefa was denied after the referee ruled he failed to ground the ball clearly despite having three defenders hanging off him.
The Tigers were not to be denied though when Davis scored his second try in the 55th minute from a grubber kick by Waters.Meaney failed to convert the try to leave the Tigers leading 28-6.
Following a series of flare ups and the placing of Iosefa on report for a high shot, the Tigers went to a 32-6 lead in the 66th minute with a try out wide to second-rower Jared Farlow. Meaney failed to convert the try.
