The Daily Telegraph's Season Guide is out today, in it they have picked what they call our top squad.

The Big league listed another version of our strongest line up recently.

Both teams seem way off the mark and its almost like there is an indifference when it comes to the Tigers. This seems to be along the same lines as most of the so called league experts who have us favorites for the spoon . Its the reality of what we face this year and what we have to prove.

They just dont rate us, they just dont care, they dont have the time to research suggested teams for their publications, they expect us to fail.

To quote Ben Ikin from the Big League.

"The Tigers had a pretty ordinary 2013 and i cant see it getting much better this year. My biggest concern for the club is that they risk bringing some of the best young talent in the game into a team that is struggling. Now love or hate Benji Marshall, he almost defined how the Tigers played throughout the past decade, and while Luke Brooks and Curtis Sironen look to be worthy long term replacements for Marshall, id hate to see them became burnt out trying to carry a Tigers side that could be in for a lean few years"

So full of negatives, every shining light put out with a negative about how bad he thinks we really are.

He then grades each team on Attack, Defence,, Coaching Staff, Playing Roster and Match Winners, we come last in every single catagory!

Its really only us insiders that see any of the changes Mick Potter has made and the balance and depth that we have this year. No one else sees the power game we are going to employ.

Its a long road to win back respect!

The telecrap… Never read too much into what they say.

You are absolutely spot on and that is what makes this season so exciting!

Our squad has an unprecedented opportunity to reinvent themselves. There is no expectation, clubs don't expect to get hurt when they play us. If we were to win 3 of our first 4, or 8 of our first 10, imagine the response we would get in the press.

Then people would stand up and look at what we have to offer.

You cannot blame Ben Ikin, we have been a basket case for years and have given others no reason to take our club seriously…....but that can change in a few days time..

I take little notice of RL publications ''best squad'' or ''strongest line-up''….just another with an opinion...we all have them.....just because your words appear in print doesnt make em any more valid than forum member team lists here

Indeed. I think we've got a pretty decent squad provided key players remain injury free. I've seen enough in the trials to suggest we'll be competitive as well as a better defensive team. And that's a decent start to build on.

Yeah, can never read into these publications too much. And as Ink said, our opinions are just as valid as theirs.

We know our team better than they do, so our opinion may be more valid? and although it's biased as we're fans, We will improve this season and have a reasonable chance at the 8 provided injuries prove good to us.

The only thing this tells me, is that Ben Ikin has NFI..

but "Ikin see clearly" how can you ignore such an amazing pun!!? that title alone ensures i read his articles every week.

I think the relatively unknown young players are what make us more dangerous than other teams. They won't know much about how many of our youngsters play. There will be limited tapes on Brooks, Moses (if he gets some game time), Brown, Siro (in the backrow), Gavet, etc. So they won't have that advantage of studying tapes for when they may run or pass, or what moves they may use as many tapes would probably be limited and fairly unusable as the NRL is a totally different beast to the 20's and plays can differ.

Potter has said we will play more direct this year and allow them to play their hand when we earn it. Other sides will be used to the more flamboyant and ad lib footy we've played over the years. I think we might surprise a lot of people this year and honestly believe a top 8 finish is not out of the question if most of the young guns can find some consistency and play to their potential and the older, more experienced players guide them along the way.

I agree, I dont value their opinion.

I dont go looking for it for justification or anything like that. I go looking for it as an indication of how others on the outside view us.

People may not think that important but this is the the world we live, sponsor dollar and corporate support etc, it matters very much what the outside think of.

Haha at least he's good for a laugh I guess. I didn't like his joke about Sirro becoming a long term replacement for Benji Marshall though, surely he was taking the p*ss? :unamused:

I have sat here with the guys at work today and we have looked at the teams. It amazes me the poor quality of many of the halves combinations for Round 1.

Guys like Dobson, Holdsworth, Ben Roberts, Whighton, Norman, Walker…these guys are either very green or are SL rejects. Is this really the strongest halves teams can put up for Round 1?

I don't know half of Parra's forward pack or bench, but they must be good considering Lussick cannot make the run on squad.

Then the Cowboys have Morgan at fullback? Wasn't he a halfback come hooker?

Our team has a great mix of Youth and experience and I really hope we can tighten up our defence and make other sides take notice. And guess what.....WE ARE PLAYING PLAYERS IN POSITION!

Yep the opportunity that awaits, thats the anticipation of this season, cant wait!

As for Ben Ikin, i dont blame him either. He is still the same boof headed fool who thought Phillip Island was Tasmania back in Origin camp.

Not his fault they now offer him good money for those insightful commentaries.

Now love or hate Benji Marshall, he almost defined how the Tigers played throughout the past decade,

thats exactly why i think they will do better this year!!

i agree totally that the reason no one in the media is rating them is because they dont really know the less experienced guys in the squad like we do, and why i have said they will surprise a lot of people.

i can just see the rags to riches stories now… tigers the feel good story of 2014... yep.

Ben Ikin, the telegraph, blah, blah, blah :blah f%$k them and the rest of the so called experts, my mighty Tigers are going to blitz it this year! Good journalist or sports commentators would give all fans of all teams a little hope that their team may do a little better the up coming year. Your missing the mark Benny, that's why your not taken seriously, just making up the numbers.

Got my pineapple on the Tigs v St G, at 13+ $4.25\. Money in the bank me thinks 😛ray: , boils and all.

You are right Tigersmurf, we have been horrible the past few seasons, so respect for our club has been lost by many. I just hope we improve on our terrible defence, then I'm sure we will win games
Lets hope we have no injuries and win a few games early on so the team gains some respect for itself as a playing roster. Good Luck Tigers :sign:

I actually like the look of our side and have some faith in our new coaching setup.

After a year of full on media assault, we’ve dropped out of view. Who’s going to care about a young team at the bottom of last years ladder with unknown coaching.

To quote ‘Gong’ “there’s an indifference when it comes to the Tigers”. I couldn’t have put it better myself. I’ve noticed the same thing and I’m happy it’s that way. I’ve reckoned for the past month or so we are travelling way under the radar.

It takes the spotlight off what we are up to and probably eases the pressure on Brooks and Potter. Our attacking game will be unknown and while we are bound to have some errors in our game, it won’t surprise me if we win a few just based on the fact we’ve been underestimated.

Who gives a rats what Ben Ikin says? Here’s hoping he keeps on saying it. I hope none of the other teams start the season respecting the Tigers. Let’s hope they learn too late.

Go Ben Ikin! Go Tigers!!

An ex player does not an expert analyst make. Every year these bozos have to justify their existence by filling column inches and they take the easy option. Roosters and Bunnies favs with Manly etc etc. it's only the rare decent analysts who carefully dissect each club and player. Ikin like his mates all work for a media who don't want or like surprises and want big interviews with the top players.

Every fan thinks their club and player thinks their team will finish top 8\. Don't waste energy reading anything into what the media say. Remember they thought we would win a couple of seasons back. They don't like being to look silly and will hold us responsible for that rather than looking at their own failings as crap analysts.

I don't mind us flying under the radar as it does take the pressure off our youngsters. We have a lot of potential, however this is unproven potential so these kind of reports also serve to bring our expectations back down to earth.

I'm really hoping this really fires up our lads to prove everybody wrong!
