With the talent in lower grades do we need anyone else?

It depends. If we are buying good players who are close enough to their prime… (eg like lote and ellis), then I don't see a problem.

What scares me is if we become a Transit Lounge or Retirement home for guys that a finished, and we lose our younger stars in the making. I wonder how Sharkies fans feel these days about keeping Danny Nutley and Jason Stevens in 2005 while losing Keith Galloway to us. I'd hate to see that happen to some of the young guys we have now.

I really wanted Tolman.

Snowden would do me fine as well I guess. I'd also love to get Lima back.

WT only need a halfback/goalkicker. Every other position is fine.

We have a halfback but he injured himself against the Cowboys.

No we have not got a true halfback. Lui, Moltzen, Marshall are all 5/8's. We need a real halfback that can steer us around the paddock. You do not think that if we had Prince (a true halfback) back that we could not win this comp?

Storm will never let Cronk, Slater and Smith go as you can build a team around them. Inglis appears to be the one to go. Cronk would be the buy of the century for Wests Tigers but unlikely to happen. Jeff Lima appears our best chance of obtaining a Storm player.

What is going on there? I had Lima going to Easts about 4 months ago, but nothing has been released!

Is he on the market, or are Easts simply not announcing anything?

Lots of clubs were really interested in Lima until the moment the Salary Cap Scandal was un-earthed. Almost all clubs…(esp the Roosters, Penrith and Broncos) are now anxiously waiting to see what happens next and if they can snap up the likes of Inglis, Slater, Cronk or Smith. Apparently heaps of deals have been put on hold because of this.

To return to the original topic: I'm inclined to agree that we are rich in juniors and lower grade players to the point where we don't really need to look elsewhere. The acquisition of McKinnon says to me that Sheens doesn't see Mullaney or Meaney as ready for 2010, so McKinnon is a short term solution. Even so, I think Ryan and Fitzy have served us well at fullback/wing and McK will need to play well to justify his recruitment.

As far as the 'mystery prop' is concerned, I'm not sure how many props you need for one team, but I wouldn't be swapping Gibbs, Fifita or Galloway for anybody, and Toddy is in the best form of his career right now IMO.

The only 'mystery prop' worth the bother is Adam Blair - he and Benji will be the nucleus of leadership in the New Zealand team for years to come - it would be nice to have them working up a combination at club level. (Our club.)

I agree that for once if we need a prop we only need a 100% gun and even then maybe they are not required.

Even at halfback I reckon we are okay. Lui or Moltzen or even Lazarus should be able to make the spot their own. Prince started as a 5/8 and is still a real good running type half.

I think we should focus on retention and junior development atm and if required go and get a player like McKinnon to fill the required gap.

The reason our lower grades have been going so well is unlike other clubs our prems n 20's have close to the same side each week wit only 1 or at most 2 players bein drafted in and out from 1st grade. This has allowed the lower grade teams to be a tight unit with no big heads and no each others games.

No, our lower grades are performing well because Wests and Balmain actually take the NSWRL Premier League seriously. It is a horrible competition and needs a drastic overhaul. It is well behind the Queensland Cup for quality.

We need to continually be on the lookout for players of NRL quality and not rely on our lower grades.

heard that manly are losing josh perry as well as hodkinson. apparently they look like letting kite go as well. we need to shore up our young props fifita and moors plus backrowers dwyer, davis to keep the vultures, sorry sea eagles, from scouting our best young talent
