Without Cronk, Slater and Smith

I looked up the last couple of times Melbourne have been in this position.

2011 - Round 26, they were crushed by the Roosters. Don't really count this, as the Storm had wrapped up the minor premiership, they really had no incentive to win and I think alot of players were conserving their energy for the finals

2011 - Round 14, Win 21 -4 vs Roosters. From all acocunts they playyed pretty well and the Roosters played terribly. They were missing Pearce, Minichello and Nate Myles, so they were very weak and in terrible form (it was their 7th loss in their last 9 games)

2010 - Round 14 - Lost 38 - 6 vs Roosters. This is more difficult to judge, the Storm had lost all their points and had no incentive to win again, although they lost like this at home which is very odd from Melbourne. Roosters were missing Pearce but had Carney.

In 2009, Cronk was still playing for Storm against us, only Slater, Smith, Inglis and Dallas Johnson were missing to Origin. We were missing Farah but the both teams have evolved significantly since this match for it to really have relevance.

The 2010 match is really interesting, I would not have predicted Melbourne to collapse like that at home.

When you consider the salary cap fiasco, it's understandable really. On another note, how fortunate are the Roosters getting to play them so understrength 3 times running? Shifty scheduling?

our 2002 side that lost to baby broncos was dreadful. awful. the only players i remember from that night were willie manu and lincoln widders, neither of whom lit up the NRL. i know you lot are saying that upsets happen but between now and then, these are two REALLY different Wests Tigers teams.
