Wooden Spoon Favourites for 2018 with bookies?

I see the Bookies have installed the Tigers on the last line of premiership betting at $51 for 2018.

Interestingly the likes of the Warriors, Titans, Bulldogs, Knights and Rabbitohs have all been installed at at least $10 shorter then the Tigers to win the competition in 2018.

Now this doesn't necessarily mean we are favourites with the bookies to win the wooden spoon as that is a different market however the logical thing is to suggest we will be.

Now what does this mean? nothing really.

However it does confirm that there are plenty of people out there that think we have the worst squad in the competition next season.

If I am being honest if I were framing an early market I would have the Warriors as favourites to win the wooden spoon. With the Titans, Tigers, Bulldogs and Knights all in the mix.
 
I think the bookies are just reflecting the uncertainty in how this side will blend together with so many new players coming in. I dont expect much in the first half of the season beyond being more competitive and structured.

I do expect a pretty strong showing in the run home.
 
Nothing better then being the underdog and lifting the premiership trophy. :slight_smile:
 
Cool….I remember being installed as Premiership favourites in 2012 by the same bookies..
 
The size of the pack could have a bearing on early markets. Liddle and Brooks stick out as not being earthmovers. Others are thin for modern rugby league.
 
I would put money on $51 dollars for the premiership

I think this side can truly pass people's expectations.

Our backline could easily be the best in the NRL, capable of putting plenty of points on the board.

Our pack will finally go forward and create some momentum.

I think our spine will gel together brilliantly and guide us to the finals.

Good signs for 2018 and never say never for the premiership
 
Its hard to predict the ladder and who will finish in front of who at this point, but i'm fairly confident we'll at least finish ahead of the Titans, Bulldogs, Saints and Newcastle at the least. Newcastle are receiving quite a lot of love atm. I think they will improve and get themselves off the bottom of table, but they won't play finals imo. Atm id say we're 50-50.
 
There needs to be some perceived value for gamblers who will bat with emotion at the tail end of a season.

This is all about getting some money in the bank.

I agree. I also think it reflects the fact that there are quite a few inexperienced players hired for their 'potential'. This season may be different though because I have faith that Ivan has the skill set to get them to realise their potential. Im not expecting miracles, but then again wouldn't be surprised to see us make the 8.
 
The Cowboys got to the GF with two big names and solid squad. We don't have the quality of Talmalou or Morgan but the rest of our squad are solid.

Looking through our 1-13 I think in most positions we are above average.
 
If you had to rake our team against a good way of doing it would put a ranking from 1-16 against each position .

Ie , 1\. Lolohea I'd give him a 7 out of 16
Which is above average.

I think most of our team would rank in a similar position to Lolohea .
I'd don't think we have any 1,2,3 but we also haven't got any 14,15,16's either

I think with Liddle we have an above average hooker and an above average player - I'd give him a 7.

Think we are weaker in the centres than we are at hooker.
 
With Suli and Milne/Marsters/Fonua we would be above average

The only teams who would beat us is Brisbane (Roberts/Bird), Souths (Inglis/Gagai) and possibly Melbourne (Chambers/Scott), Canberra (Croker/Leilua), Roosters (Mitchell/Ferguson), Parra (Jennings/Taikarangi)

Our centres at worst 7th

The teams that would beat us at hooker are Melbourne, Roosters, Brisbane, Saints, Canberra, Titans

At hooker we are 7th at worst
 
Teams who beat us at 6: Brisbane, Melbourne, Roosters, Cronulla, Manly, Cowboys, Warriors, Dragons

At 6 we are 9th at worst

At 7 we would lose to: Rooseters, Manly, Penrith, Cowboys, Dragons, Warriors, Souths

We are 8th at worst at halfback

So we are 'average' in the halves

Ben is at the stage Milky was at a few years ago. Making a big deal of a lot of irelevant stuff. Seems to have a good RL brain for a kid his age though.
