even though I honestly feel bad for Woods if he isnt rewarded for his hard work and effort by being called up for Origin, I will be doing secret fist pumps knowing he will be out there doing his normal huge effort for us on the weekend. For mine, he is the most irreplaceable player on our roster at present, our pack would be like fishes out of water without him.

Souths have not suffered the same deprivation. Plenty of years where they were consistently taking the spoon yet had Fletch/Wing/Wesser/Walker and probably more making squads. They were never in any sort of rep drought like WT have gone through.

The media beat up of "Souths snubbed by Blues!" this year was a beatup to spike readers attention, nothing more.

Wesser & Walker never played origin during their time at Souths
Fletcher played Origin mainly during his stint at Easts…he had 2 seasons with Souths while still in the Origin squad

Weve had Terry Hill, Prince, Hodgo , Farah & Galloway

But since the same time weve been around theyve had Wing, Harrison,Crocker, Inglis & Taylor with McQueen and teo this year....so a couple more than us, not a lot of difference

Tigers teammates talk up Woods' chances of taking Tamou's Origin spot

Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods had a contingent of journalists available to push his claim for a run in the NSW State of Origin team but the 22-year-old left it to his teammates after deciding to do any talking on the field.

Woods, Canterbury's Aiden Tolman, Newcastle's Willie Mason and Penrith's Tim Grant are all believed to be under consideration by Blues coach Laurie Daley to replace James Tamou – who was stood down after being charged with drink-driving – when he names the team on Sunday.

Woods told Tigers bosses before training at Concord on Thursday that he didn't want to field questions about his desire to wear the sky-blue jumper, his one-in-four chance of making the squad and the merits of his rivals. His teammates, however, were pleased to run the media gauntlet.

"He has the biggest engine, he keeps going and all of his hit-ups are quality," said 19-year-old playmaker Curtis Sironen.

"He's only young but I believe if you're good enough you're old enough and I think Aaron definitely deserves his shot. We were all disappointed he didn't get a go in game one. Even though we were struggling [as a team], he and Robbie Farah were our best every week. It was like 'what else could he do?' "

Centre Blake Ayshford, who'll return in Monday night's match against Brisbane from an injury that sidelined him for six weeks, echoed Sironen's disappointment that Woods was overlooked for the Origin opener.

"Look at him, for the last two years he's been one of the form front-rowers and [not being selected] has probably been hard on him," Ayshford said. "He's only young and has a bit of time to get there, but his youth shouldn't go against him.

"He's in our leadership group with the senior players and that says a lot for him, and we take on board everything he says."

"Youth" has been a talking point at Wests Tigers as coach Michael Potter needed to blood seven first-grade debutants this season to counter a nightmarish injury toll after the likes of Ayshford, Liam Fulton, Keith Galloway, Farah, Chris Lawrence and Tim Moltzen were sidelined.

They lost seven straight but last weekend's effort to beat Penrith was used to illustrate the grit of Wests generation next. Ayshford was adamant the Tigers could also defy those doomsayers who'd predicted this year would be the club's most abysmal season by making the final eight.

"Definitely, easily," he said of what appeared to be an impossible dream a fortnight ago. "We had one of our worst starts to a season . . . but we're just two [wins] out of the eight. If we can get into the eight, it's a different ball game."

Daley virtually ruling Woods out saying that he's hesitant to throw him into a 'hostile' Suncorp environment, and might look to the devastating likes of Mason or Snowden.

Most ridiculous argument I have ever heard, if he couldn't cop a hostile crowd then he wouldnt be playing first grade and dominating the way he is week in week out. We can rule out winning game 2 if Mason or Snowden are picked.

x2\. The article mentions Grant a fair bit too, but none in any of Loz's quotes, he only talks about Mason/Snowden. Definitely some interesting selection policies, especially if Reynolds is retained.

Mason will get it - I can just see it happening and it will be a backward step, imo.

Mason has always known that the big games like Origin or finals were about intensity. Unfortunately his definition of intensity and mine are miles apart. Two big runs in the first 5 mins, another 10 mins later and then a bit of rest up the back is not intensity.

I've watched this game for a long time and occasionally I've seen selectors face decisions about the old bull and the young bull. Although I like Daley as a coach and think he had a brilliant career, I've got no doubt that if he chooses Mason before Woods he has squibbed it. Mason has reached about 70% of his potential in the game and is on the decline. Woods has reached about 70% of his potential and is on the incline.

Pardon the pun but Blind Freddy could tell you which is the right decision.

Hoffman was ineffective going into the last quarter. He was tired and looked gone. Reduce his role to the last ~60min to avoid that happening.

Personally I never would have had him in the side for game I, but now he is there, might as well keep him for stability.

I thought Hoffman was excellent in game 1.

Tamou has been hopeless all year, blessing in disguise if you ask me.
