Fair enough, they missed '15 & '16, but they'll be back there this year. Previous to those years they were in the finals every year for 10 years. Not a bad record, If only we could match that.
Aren't you at all a bit cynical about the success of the "good clubs'?
I honestly don't think some guys really have a clue when they post stuff like this. Good clubs have winning cultures so they never have bad seasons. Think it through a little bit. Does this culture thing make teams play well ?
It comes down to having a good team. We had a good team in 05 and when we made the finals in 10/11\. Was our culture what gave us these wins or is it somehow different for us.
It's just having a good squad, having some luck with injuries and a degree of how well coached and disciplined the team is.
Being able to rort the cap has the most to do with developing a good squad.
Yes I'm ignorant and yes I don't have a clue - thanks for your encouragement. It's a forum where we share our opinions, most of us probably have no idea in the long run.
However, referring back to the culture thing, how many times have people posted on here about how important it is for a club to have a winning culture? And how they wished we had that type of culture? If I had a dollar for every time I've seen it mentioned I'd be a very rich man! Now suddenly it all means nothing and just having a good squad is the key to ongoing success - tell that to the Warriors, who with their squad should be blitzing the opposition every week!
I'm not saying that the clubs that have a history of a winning culture never have bad seasons, I'm just pointing out that they rarely stay down for very long. They don't continually miss the playoffs year after year. They manage to come through the rough times a whole lot quicker than many of the teams who consistently finish in the bottom eight.
I certainly don't disagree that sometimes the rorting of the salary cap can play a part in their quick resurgence, especially with teams like Easts and Brisbane, but i wouldn't place either Manly or Canterbury in that category, over the years, and they are the teams that stand out to me as having a culture that does not tolerate mediocrity for more than a season.
