Italy have to qualify in a much stronger pool of teams
Where as the Aussies only need to beat hackers to just scrape through .
Simples !

They are one of the best teams in the world, still doesn't follow why they did not qualify. Nor the Netherlands.

Even Chile who are the current Copa America Champions and Argentina just made it on there last Qualifying game .

I get that, but the incessant whinging from European and South American teams that miss out is becoming mundane. It is the World Cup, not the UEFA and CONMEBOL face off. If you let the top 32 teams in that would be virtually all it is.

Probably why they are moving to a 48 team model, ruins the prestige of the tournament for mine though, especially with New Zealand qualifying by default every tournament.

You are spot on CB, it's a bloody joke extending it to 48 Countries.
So would that be 6x8 groups? Hopefully that is the case and you get to see more action from your Country at World Cup level…..then again the suckers FIFA are filling there coffers alot more.

In South America it's tough as it is as all Countries play each other a home and away leg.

Russia and Uruguay are the 1st 2 Countries through to the Round of 16.

I think it was said that it would be 16 groups of 3\. So basically the top seeded 16 sides were almost a guarantee to always get through making it an absolute farce for any other country to get through. 8 groups of six would have been heaps better.
